Adequate

from momo3bigD
Stayed here while visting UPenn with our daughter. Had 2 rooms as our younger son was also with us. The rooms were OK but the kids room smelled like cigar smoke even though it was supposed to be non smoking.
The restaurant downstairs was incredibly slow with breakfast even though there was only one other table.

The hotel is just okay

from rightcoastgirl
This hotel is okay. I would not pay more than between $75-85/night. The customer service is average - sometimes the front desk is helpful and sometimes they were not. I stayed here two nights and on the first night, they only had a double room available. The second night, the front desk staff happily switched us to a king room. The Sleeper bed is comfortable but the rooms are somewhat small with very little walking space. The bathrooms are average. This hotel is more akin to a Ramada Inn than a three star Sheraton. This could be due to the age of the building and it being an urban city location.

There's a lot of things to do in the university area but you must use some caution when traveling on the SEPTA train to/fro. Overall, there are good eateries and bars around.

Park your car elsewhere

Room was nice and clean. Front desk was helpful. Rates are a bit overpriced.
The main complaint I have with this hotel is the parking garage. Don't even think about bringing a large vehicle such as an SUV or a minivan. Unless you have a subcompact car, you'll be better off parking elsewhere. The concrete columns in the parking deck are full of scratch marks. I drove in the NYC for 23 years. I'm used to maneuvering in tight spaces. But this parking lot is ridiculously tight. At $15 a night, you should be able to find a safer (and maybe cheaper) parking lot nearby.

Great Place around Penn or to take an AMA exam

from tiev
Great hotel right near the Penn campus. Entire purpose of our stay was for my girlfriend to take her Step AMA exam. Location was great for that right around the corner from the testing center. Hotel staff was pleasant during checkin, I had reserved a club floor room. Room was nice, large and modern, the bathroom was a little bit dated though. One of the most appealing features about this hotel is the esuite computer feature. It gives you free broadband access. Overall I was very happy with this hotel and would stay in again, if I needed to be stay by Penn or Drexel. Downtown was a quick cab ride into the city, maybe 5 mins ($7). Great restaurant a few blocks away called Penne.

Great option for a stay in Philly

from fsu307
We just returned from a 4-night stay at the Sheraton University City Hotel in Philadelphia. While this hotel is a little outside the main tourist areas, it was certainly easy to get to everything. The hotel is about 2 blocks from the subway station (getting good service from the people at the subway station is a different topic). The hotel is also adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania, so there are a ton of dining options nearby.

The interior of the hotel was pleasant. Apparently, it was recently remodeled; however, there still is some work to be done. The bed was comfortable, and the rooms were adequate in size. One big plus was the fact that the hotel provides a computer with free internet access (therefore, there is no need to bring your laptop). A note in the room indicated that they are in the process of upgrading all TVs to 32" flat panel LCD units.

Our only bad experience was the fact that, on our first day, the room was not cleaned. We mentioned this to the front desk and the room was cleaned within 15 minutes.

We would definitely stay here again.

A pleasant stay

from klmal
We stayed here for the convenient location to the Children's Hospital. It is a very short drive, a few blocks, that probably could even be walked. Parking is $15.00 in the attached covered garage. Rooms were nice, beds were very comfortable. Lobby area was lovely, staff was helpful. Room service a little, pricey, but that always seems to be the case. Food was better than average, service was prompt. The rates are a little pricey, even for the middle of the week, but the location is great. We will defnitely stay here again.

Good experience at the Sheraton

from A TripAdvisor Member
I visited the Sheraton University City July 5-7, 2006, with my daughter on a college visit to Penn. While the hotel doesn't quite look like it does on their website, it was certainly fine for our purposes. It is only two short blocks from the Penn campus, and 1-1/2 blocks from the subway, which is a direct line to the downtown Visitor Information Bureau and all the tours for Constitution Hall, etc. There are several restaurants close to the hotel (the one in the hotel looked drab and depressing). We loved the White Dog Inn, a quaint old place with lots of charm, an outside patio, bar and good food. Our room was on a higher floor and had a great view of the Penn campus. The beds were comfortable, but the carpet was a little dingy, and the bathroom was a little small (and you had to hold the lever down on the toilet to make sure it flushed.) The wall unit a/c was controlled by a thermostat, and a little noisy. Otherwise the room was quiet. The staff could have been a little more pleasant, but I only recognized that probably because we're from the South. They were pretty helpful, but not very friendly. If our daughter goes to Penn, I would definitely stay there again.

Good place to stay, though away from the action

from clvier1
This turned out to be a nice place, close to the Penn and Drexel campuses. The subway is nearby, and the area feels safe. I noticed hotel security outside doing their job. Didn't get to try the pool, which is outdoors on the 7th floor. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and there are excellent dining options nearby, esp. the White Dog Cafe. The Penn bookstore is also very close.

great find, great stay

from larryb78
Admittedly, my fiance & I found this hotel by mistake. We were looking for somthing in Philly for memorial day weekend, and a 3.5 star on hotwire for $83/night was too good to turn down for our 2 night stay. Everything at this hotel was teriffic. Parking ($15/day) was far cheaper than any other hotel I'd called in the area. The location was also wonderful, walking distance to shopping on Sansom St, great dining & lots of neat scenic areas around the UPenn campus. Anything else we wanted to do in Philly was a mere 15 minute drive away. In no time we were at the Zoo, Center City, and the Franklin Institute.

Staff at the hotel was friendly and accomodating. Being that we booked this on hotwire we had no control over the room type we were assigned. One quick call to the hotel changed all this. My explanation of my fiance's asthma was all they needed to put is into a king non-smoking immediately. They were also more than happy to answer all our touristy questions about where to eat & what to see.

The hotel itself was also quite nice. The room was large & well appointed. The bed was one of the most comfortable i've ever slept in. All fixtures were modern & the room was very clean & comfortable.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the Philadelphia area.

Good Location-not Outstanding

from Darlyne
My daughter and I stayed here while looking at colleges in the area. It was the ideal location-Literally steps from UPenn and Drexel. Although the location was great and the front desk was wonderful, there needs to be greater attention paid to the rooms. In Room 1217, it faced a construction site where the machinary started at about 5:00 AM-no fault of the hotel. The wallpaper in the bathroom was bubbling and on the verge of peeling. Everything just appeared "mediocre"-nothing outstanding. It didn't have that clean and fresh feel. Just an aside-charging $4.00 for a bottle of water seemed a tad greedy for a $179+ a night hotel.

traveling on weekends and holidays Philly is great for parking on the weekends. The University City location is close enough to Center City to make it worthwhile.

Independence Hall Tour The National Park Service runs the scheduled tours through the Independence Hall compound. Call ahead to schedule a tour time convenient to your overall plans for Philadelphia.
