While I truely didn't encounter roaches I bet they will be housed there soon. This is THE filthiest and rudest hotel I ever encountered. Don't matter how often they switch GM's or other high positions - they seem to find the people that don't know how to run a hotel and give them positions way out of their league. I sure hope they put this property up for sale and throw the management out! WORST experience I ever had and I travel weekly.

Poor service, employees will tell you anything to get you to leave them alone rather than trying to help, lied about not getting charged for the second night with early checkout, poor accommodations.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Sheraton Philadelphia City Center Hotel

Boondocks

from johnrutter
Rude staff, Ugly decor and location was so faraway from anything interesting. You have to walk 30 mins to the nearest restaurant or attraction. They wont honor ByRequest reservations and we got 2 double beds instead of a king. Never again!

Should call it the Warehouse Philadelphia at Franklin Plaza

Without a doubt the worst hotel I have stayed at in the United States.
1 hour check in. 45 minutes from room to parking garage at check out (just travel time - no check out involved!). Asked for foam pillow due to allergy. Went to bed 4 hours later. Hotel staff kept calling to tell us they were "still looking" until after midnight, despite actual PLEAS not to call back. Can you tell I didn't like it. Next time check into a self-storage unit - its the same experience.

Great Hotel

After reading reviews I was worry about my stay, however the hotel was excellent including services, people and the view from the 26th floor.

ve ever stayed at.

I stayed at this hotel for 1 night- October 10, 2003.

1. It took 20 minutes to check in with only one couple ahead of me.
2. They did not honor my guarenteed room request of two double beds and gave me a king instead.
3. Elevator broke down on my way to the room.
4. As a Wyndham by Request member I am supposed to have wine, cheese, and crackers in my room upon arrival. This was there, but without a knife to cut through the wax covered cheese. I called room service and the said that they were too busy to bring a knife up to my room, so I had to go back down the scary elevator from a very high floor myself to get it.
5. I should also mention that the wait for the elevator was at least 5-10 minutes a pop with large crowds of people fighting to get on. It felt like how it feels trying to get on the NYC subways during rush hour.
6. At check in I had requested a roll away bed to be brought up to the room so that my brother and i wouldn't have to share a bed. After 2 hours the bed still haden't shown. I called guest services and they weren't aware that i had requested a roll away bed. They said they would sent one up pronto... An hour and a half later still no roll away bed. I call back down to see what the problem was and a different person answered and they were still unaware of my need for a roll away bed. I then spoke to a manager who finally got a bed to my room... an hour later.
7. Room quality: very bad. They need major renovations at this hotel.
The rooms were very shabby and smelled bad. The pillows on the bed smelled even worse. There were hairs on the sheets and pillows as if they haden't been changed. There was a green mold around the faucet of the bathroom sink. The lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were all mismatched. The remote for the TV didn't work. The tableside lamp was broken. The blowdryer in the bathroom didn't work. The carpet had cigarette burns in this "non-smoking" room. The sliding closet door was rusty. I saw a couple of bugs crawling around the corner of the room.
8. Staff: Bad attitudes, and very rude. The concierge didn't know where anything was farther than 2 blocks from the hotel, and gave us serious attitude about even asking. Everyone I spoke to on the phone at the hotel was rude to me.
9. Housekeeping knocked, no banged on our door at 7:30am the next morning and woke us up. I had to get up out of bed to tell her to come back after we checked out. I called down again to tell the front desk to be sure to have housekeeping come after we checked out because we were out really late last night and wanted to sleep as long as possible. When you are a Wyndham ByRequest member you don't have to check out until 2:00pm, and they even put you on a special Wyndham ByRequest floor to distinguish you of that honor. Housekeeping was back and knocking at 11:45am.

Verdict: This is not a 4 star hotel, only 2 at the most. The only reason I say 2 instead of 1 star is that the view from the room was beautiful and it provided a really nice sunset with beautiful lighting in the evening- although you had to see it all through a dirty window.

Pleasantly Surprised

from A TripAdvisor Member
After reading the postings about this hotel, I was somewhat nervous about staying there. However, I was extremely pleased with the hotel, especially given the incredible rate that I paid. My room was on the 21st floor with a wonderful view of the city. The room was nice, the bathroom did need a little work, but the room was definitely clean.

I ordered room service in the morning, and not only was the food great, the service was exceptional. I would definitely stay here again.

Hated the Wyndham!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Wyndham in Philly was among the worst hotels I've ever visited.
It's not convenient to many of the city sites. The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional. I called about early check-in several times, which is rarely a problem anywhere else, and instead of checking to see if another room might be available, we were told to come back later.
The toilet had urine all over it when we arrived. The tv had poor channel choices and an annoying setup. The menu for the choices and channels took a long time to load. The extra pillows in the closet had an awful stench and unusable. Don't stay here if you want a chance of enjoying your stay in Philly. This is a disgusting hotel and worthy of the horrible reviews it's received.

Avoid the Wyndham

from A TripAdvisor Member
Avoid this hotel. It is outdated and not kept up. The indoor hot tub had to be closed because of complaints that it was too dirty. Exedia had 4 stars but probably 2 stars would be more approriate for the room.
We did not even get the room we reserved.

I too read the reviews after I had booked the hotel online and I must admit based on the previous feedback I called and tried to change my reservation to another hotel. But to my surprise the hotel was great!!!
Close proximity to Reading Terminal, PA Convention Center, good restaurants (Rose Tatoo Cafe - Jumbalaya to die for). The concierge was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. There was an average wait-time for check-in and the staff was extremely pleasant. Express check-out was conveinent. When we requested extra towels, needle & thread, etc. it was sent up immediately. I would definately stay here again!!!

Uggh..mold in the shower!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had and you couldn't pay me to stay at this hotel again! The hotel is understaffed, the elevators are slow, and the rooms are disgusting! Our room had a dirty, worn out carpet, a MOLDY shower curtain (I mean come on, this isn't supposed to be some sleezy motor lodge), and stained towels. The hotel has a 4 star rating- somehow- it should be more like 1 star! Stay Away!!

Top Local Tips for Philadelphia

Reading Terminal Market The best place to eat lunch in the city center is the Reading Terminal Market. The lines can be long, but you can get nearly everything, including great pizza and Thai. You can also load up on organic Amish fruit to snack on as you see the sights.

KING TUT VIP PACKAGE Definately take advantage of this package - saves money and time that you would spend waiting in lines....

Franklin Institute Plan a full day at the Franklin Institute if you are traveling with kids. I had things for the toddlers to teenagers.
