Not Bad At All

from SunnyDays
We are a Philadelphia area couple who spent New years Eve at this hotel. Beautiful, clean rooms. They are not super, super deluxe but very comfortable. The beds are really fabulous as some have mentioned. This is an ideal location for anyone from out of town. It is close to all public transit and both east and west tourist locations. We did not eat in any of the high priced restaurants as there are so many others in town to choose from but the hottub and lap pool were great fun!!

great location....

One night stay at Philadelphia downtown Marriott on Nov 12th. Booked on two day notice and received a Marriott friends & family rate of $119/night (website price was listed at $159/night for that weekend). The lobby was relatively large and was still bustling at 1:30 AM. The room was average size. The view was ok but the bedroom décor was extremely dull. The bathroom size was average for a Marriott hotel with the counter having a 140 degree angle shape. The most obvious negative of our stay was the hotel valet parking. There are some open lots nearby, but didn’t have time to explore. Valet parking was $30/night, which is relatively expensive for most urban cities. The positive was the location of the hotel. It’s close to a variety of upscale restaurants as we went to Morimoto’s which is just a short cab ride away. Don’t bother driving if you are staying downtown as parking is limited plus cab fares in Philadelphia are comparatively low to most major east coast cities.

Highly Recommend the Downtown Marriott

I thought the location was great for Reading Terminal Market, Rittenhouse Square and the art museum. Yes, it's a little further from the historical stuff, but I thought the Marriott superior to the Hyatt Penn's Landing. The Marriott had a big, beautiful, lively lobby, with 3 restaurants. The beds were sooo comfy, the bathroom large and the shower was great. I highly recommend the "Two for Breakfast" deal, ($10 for 2). The view was ok. Be sure to request a room away from the guest AND service elevators.

Very nice hotel

We stayed at the Marriott downtown over Labor Day weekend for a great holiday rate of $109 found on the Marriott website. Overall, the hotel was very nice - lovely lobby, helpful staff, nice rooms and one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in in a hotel (almost on par with Ritz Carlton beds). It is centrally located and is an easy walk (for those willing to walk more than a couple of blocks) to the historic area and the museums. Also within a block of the Reading Terminal Market, which is fabulous. Some of the surrounding streets were a bit unsavory, but you find that in every big city and it felt perfectly safe during the day. I will note that the rooms are not terribly big - fine if you're on business, but a little small for a family with two small children. When we initially checked in, I asked for a corner room based on the suggestions on this website, but the room we received was not a corner room. When we switched rooms and received a corner room, the size was only slightly bigger. The view was cool though, and our girls enjoyed looking out the window.

Nice hotel, not so great location.

Stayed for three nights over Labor Day weekend. First room had no view at all. Complained and received a corner room with view of city hall, great. You have to ask for a room with a view when you check in. Staff was friendly and the hotel is in the center of the city. However, the location was a bit far from the historical area. My recommendation is to stay at the Omni or the new Hyatt at Penn Landing (both were sold out). Second recommendation, avoid the trolley ride. It is a slow, smelly (diesel fumes) and boring ride. I think the open aired, double decker Big Bus tour would have been a better bet even though it is a bit more expensive. The Duck cruise/ride also looked like a lot more fun.

Great stay

Dropped our son off at Villanova and we stayed 1 night at the Marriott. For the first time I used Priceline and got a room for $109. When we arrived they upgraded us to a hospitality suite which was huge. At least 700 sq ft. The place is beautiful with all the amenities. The staff was friendly and we had a great time. I would certainly stay again. Parents weekend is coming up on the 17& 18 of Sept and I used priceline again. This time I got a room for $99 but it is at the Radisson. We shall see how that compares.

great location

Very clean hotel in our room and throughout. We were given a corner room which the kids (teens) thought was the best part! Request one;same price. We walked through the convention center to the Hard Rock Cafe. Dunkin Donuts next door to that, and Starbucks in hotel lobby pleased us all. Very quiet-never heard anyone else, but heard sirens outside. Not a problem though. Pool is just a lap pool. Very convenient to the sites, with subway across the street. Some of us walked home and beat the subway riders! Concierge wasn't too helpful, but bellhops sure were! I'd stay again, and the kids agreed.

Great Location

Stayed here during the National Irish Step Dancing Competition. The hotel was packed. We were lucky to have confirmed our preference for a double room...many in our group received single room beds when they had booked doubles, so be sure to confirm you requirements via phone call if you book on-line. Despite the crowds everyting was fine for us. Room was spacious and well appointed. Lobby is huge. Elevators were over taxed...long waits during check in. Great location. One tip: the main entrance for check in and parking is on Filbert Street, not Market Street...would have saved some aggravation had we known that ahead of time.

Fine, but nothing special...

Took advice from others from this site and requested a corner room. The room was not really larger than others, and had a pillar in the middle of two relatively small windows that partially blocked the view. Room was standard-issue bland Marriott (has Marriott ever heard of interior designers??). Though clean and comfortable--especially the bed, it was unmemorable.

Enjoyed Philly Marriott very much.

Gorgeous lobby, friendly staff, valet parking was speedy, and room was adequately appointed. Overall, an exceptional experience. Quick check-in & check out, nice amenities and great location make this a top-notch Philly hotel.Allie's Restaurant was mediocre dinner fare, but in fairness, we arrived on the late side, so perhaps the kitchen staffing was not at full-level. The breakfast buffet at the same restaurant was exceptional. Fruits, meats, fresh pastries, cereals, you name it! Really good stuff... Evening cocktails on the rotunda provided great ambiance, and they mix them strong. A bit pricey, but good quality.Pool area was clean, with plenty of towels to spare. Clorine levels were very high - might irritate sensitive eyes - don't wear contacts in the hot tub or the clorine-rich steam will burn. Didn't get to try out the fitness equipment, but looked like there was a variety of machines available!I recommend this hotel to couples who are looking for a weekend on the town. It's convenient, romantic, upscale enough to be an endulgence, and not so pricey that it will prevent you from other Philly attractions. We did it on the gophila web site's plan - what a deal!
