Historical Traveller Reviews of Omni Hotel at Independence Park

Room 1211

from sbrooks15
If your going to stay at this Hotel, ask for room 1211. My wife and I stayed on December 29th, and it was great. Pulled the car up, let them park it. On into the hotel, went to the front desk (I had gone online and signed up for their Club, which gave us express check in). She just went over grabbed the keys and my wife and I were on our way to the room. We were in a corner room that over looked Independence Hall, Second bank, and first bank. It was a great view. The room was big as well, and the bathroom was clean. Just down a block were many bars and restaurants. It seemed like a safe area too. It was worth the stay.

This hotel has a great location but....1)the "smoke free room" smelled of smoke the whole time, 2)the maid took it upon herself to trash our reading materials and snacks, 3)light bulbs were out in the bathroom and the curtains were partially off the rods, creating a one star appearance, 4)we were charged for the overpriced "Fiji water" in the room even though we didn't touch it, 5) the shower was very weak (maybe the water can't get to the 14th floor). Would not recommend for the price.

Loved the Omni

We have a four year old and a two year old. So, we are picky about where we stay. Great staff, great location, clean room! We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend it.

Pleasant Surprise

My husband and I stayed here during weekend of 9/22/04.
We had wanted to stay at the Four Seasons which is our regular hotel in Philadelphia. Couldn't get the room we wanted. Found this one on Expedia. Wow! We're hooked.
We will be staying here from now on. Plenty of staff to get you cabs, give you detailed directions around the city, etc.
Great room overlooking the park. Even though it was a
Friday night during our check-in you couldn't hear any
noise from the outside. Our room was huge with a large marble bathroom. Everything was sparkling clean. Something that we are extra picky about. We would never
have picked this place on our own; but got lucky and are
glad we did.

Not What You Expect

No Staff to be found anywhere, when we did they were not helpful, rooms adequate but overpriced. Not what you expect from an Omni Hotel. Next time we stay at one of the smaller hotels in the area.

Loved the Omni in Independence Park!

You can't beat this hotel when it comes to service and location. They treated us very well and were very friendly. The concierge was more than willing to be of assistance, and the front desk responded quickly when we called with questions and a request for extra pillows. In addition, Omni offers package deals, and they are worth checking over. We had a great rate, complimentary breakfasts, early check in at 1pm and late check out at 5pm. My advice would be to deal with the hotel directly and skip or other online agents. The people at Omni are willing to extend themselves for you ~ give them the chance and call them directly.

The location, as mentioned by other reviewers, is perfect. You are across the street from Carpenter's Hall and Signer's Park (among other little museums tucked in there), and you are literally right down the street from Independence Hall (incl. Old City Hall and Congress Hall) and the Liberty Bell. The Independence Visitor Center is just across the street from the Bell, and that's where you'll get all your info and free tickets for the Hall. You are also just on the cusp of the area known as Society Hill, which has beautifully maintained colonial homes and Washington Park (built over the bodies of Rev. War soliders in mass graves and also has the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). I suggest taking a horse-drawn carriage ride in the evening around Society Hill and the Park. Carriage rides during the day are met with traffic and tourists. Night time rides are quiet, and you can really enjoy the sites and any info the driver may have to share. Plus, the night time temperature is easier on the horse. :o) Everyone wins.

Restaurants/Cafes are in every nook and cranny as you walk the neighborhood, and the concierge is happy to recommend some places. The City Tavern (where many of our forefathers met) is roughly two blocks away from the Omni, and the Philadelphia Seafood Co. is a few blocks East. Keep walking East after dinner, and you'll hit the Delaware River. :o)

Do yourself a favor: book the Omni yourself (after checking out their packages on their website), go to the Independence Visitors Center's website and start mapping out your visit. You won't be sorry!

Good and Bad

The location is excellent. The building itself is excellent. The view was excellent. However, the hotel seems to be short on staff. Calling the hotel on a Saturday evening the phone rang for an entire minute without every being picked up. This happened twice. When we checked in, the single desk clerk was busy so the bell-person checked us in, even taking and validating the credit card. There was supposed to be a bill under our door on the morning we departed - but we never got one. Because the room was booked from Expedia we were not given a receipt when we checked out. Never saw a concierge at the desk.
One of the two windows in the room opened, it was nice to be able to get fresh air. I don't know however which window was not doing what it was supposed to.

5 Star all the way!

Starting with the curbside service from the second we pulled up to the hotel until they packed our car back up on our way out of the hotel the service at the Omni was GREAT! You won't find better service anywhere. I can't say enough about the hotel's staff.

Location was perfect! One block from the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Ben Franklin's home, etc. Perfect for the tourist.

The rooms were quite large and very well appointed. Nice furnature, well decorated, good view, and a nice, well "stocked" bathroom.

If I had to complain about something it would have to be the water saving devise in the shower head made for less than ideal water presure. Better pressure and massaging shower head would have made the place near perfect!

just got back from Philadelpia,Pa. Stayed at the Omni for 2 nights, first time that we stayed in a 4 star hotel. The doorman and bellman unloaded car at curb took luggage to room. Great service. Got a great deal on the room for 2 nights with free full breakfast at their resturant. Breakfast was good but pricey. Everyone one was so nice and helpful at the Omni. Great view of Independence Park. Within walking distance of the sites, i.e. Liberty Bell, Visitor's Center and the National Constitution Center. I do agree with one review that the TV is a little too low . The other thing is that they do not have microwaves available. A must if you have small kids. Room service is way to pricey. The hotel doorman Harold(great guy) my kids loved him, George was great too. Had to change rooms and he moved everything twice, Harold gave great recommendations on resturants and other things we should see while there. I would highly recommend the Omni. With out a doubt. I would stay there again in Philadelphia

Seemed Like A 5-Star Hotel

We pulled in front at 5:00 PM on a busy Friday, 7/2/2004. The EXCELLENT Personnel took it from there - checked us in from the curb, took our luggage & vehicle. Everyone was just EXCELLENT. We were able to watch an EXCELLENT 4th of July fireworks show over the river from the room. The task of having the pull-out sofa made up at 11:00 PM was quickly and cheerfully completed. The Omni and her Personnel made us feel like we were in an EXCELLENT 5-Star hotel. Our visit could not have been better (unless it could have been free!). We will visit again...

Top Local Tips for Philadelphia

Visit the Visitor's Center The US Mint does not allow cameras and cell phones so leave them in the room. Independence Hall tour is free but you have to get a ticket at the visitors center ont the same day. Go first thing in the morning 8:30 as they run out of tickets pretty quickly because of all the group tours. Also, the staff at the visitor's center is fantastic. Very helpful and friendly. Stop by there first.

GREAT FOOD Alma de Cuba

quick breakfast Check out the breakfast buffet in the Bourse building opposite Independence Park. They also have a food court for lunch.
