Great Price for the Location
from uschalOn the down side there are homeless people hanging around the area at night (and they will try to panhandle you) but there are actually quite a lot of people around (chinatown is just 2 blocks down and there is a nightclub about a block away - maybe that is why there are so many panhandlers there??). There also seems to be a lot of "adolescents" (high school seniors and college students) in the hotel and around (probably because of the price of the rooms and the closeness to restaurants, bars, etc.) so things can be a bit rowdy ...
But all in all I find the atmosphere "bothersome" at worst rather than "dangerous".
This hotel suits me well also as I know the city and am not interested in all the "touristy" things. Therefore not having a concierge does not matter to me. Ultimately you get a hotel with decent rooms in a convenient location for a great price. There are so many restaurants around you would not want to eat at the hotel anyway. This is not a fancy hotel so if you are after "pampering" this is not the hotel for you. Otherwise if you are just after a clean, convenient place to stay for a reasonable price this is the hotel I would recommend.
Nice hotel in a nice location
from jet296Firstly, the entire staff was courteous, knowledgeable & helpful. Everyone from the manager to the baggage handlers greeted us with genuine smile and provided helpful information about the area when asked. The rooms were clean & spacious.
The hotel has an indoor pool, jacuzzi and restaurant. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to experience these amenities.
The hotel is about a five minute drive from Penn's Landing & ten minute drive to South Street. Not to mention that the hotel is directly access the street from the convention center.
The only negative is that there is no free parking. If you drive you will have to pay $20.00 per night for parking
We have taken a particular liking to Philadelphia, and when we return we will definitely consider returning to the Hilton.
Unsafe feeling
from jarchThe front desk always had a linewhich was annoying as this was our first vists to Philadelphia and they was no conceirge, usually 2 people working the desk, most were helpful.
I think next time I would look for a different hotel, in a better location.
A bit of a bargain
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe restaurant & bar are on the top floor giving good views over the city. The food wasn't great (bland as opposed to nasty) but the cocktails mixed to fell an ox, and the pleasant service more than made up for it.
Plus nice sandwiches on room service.
Non-smoking should mean non-smoking...
from ryvalryI noticed the vents in the ceiling were ashy and dusty and realized that the smoke was creeping in through them. The pillows are a bit hard, but aside from these things the room was very clean and nice. I didn't realize that it had a mid-sized fridge with freezer and a microwave when I booked. Thought that this was quite good for $150 a night.
The staff is EXCELLENT and must be commended. Very friendly and accomodating - even the girl who cleaned my room took time out to talk to me.
I would go back if the Marriott wasn't available, and the Marriott would be my first choice given the cigarette smoke problem.
P.S. It has a convenient parking lot right next to the main entrance of the hotel.
Very Nice and Enjoyable Stay
from Worldly_GirlScotlandShopping...Convention Centre...Town Hall are all within walking distance. Perfect location for getting around Phily. We had a fun stay here and would recommend it...:0) Barbara and Scott ...Scotland/Philadelphia
Very Nice Stay
from InquisitiveTravelerGreat place to stay
from patty4Very Nice Hotel
from 1NicePersonnot very nice especially for the price!
from GinaM-TRIPThe hotel staff was impersonal and the room completely unsatisfactory. It had a very depressed, run-down feeling and our particular floor's unpleasant odor permeated into our room. We went next door to the Philadelphia Marriott where we stayed in a beautiful room for a significantly lower price over the New Year's week end.
Top Local Tips for Philadelphia
Avoid Pat's and Geno's unless it is WARM There is NO indoor seating at these places!! No one had told us this. We were miserably disappointed to arrive there - on a blustery February evening - to find NO indoor seating at either place!! So we ended up walking until we found a place that did have indoor seating - Venice Pizza, a little non-descript family owned place in South Philly. Not fancy, no frills, but THE most DELICIOUS and authentic Philly Cheesesteak you can imagine. $4 for a 12" sub overflowing with food that melted in your mouth it was so good.
remember photo ID and leave camera at home If you go to the Mint you can not take in camera phones or camera's and you have to show a government photo ID. Tickets to Independence Hall are handed out at the visitors center and are imited.. get there early
Getting Around In Philly Taxi cabs seem to run $8 each way regardless of which local venue you are heading to. Make sure you take the Trolley Tour around Philly (90 minutes). You can get off and back on at various stops around the historic district. This is a great way to see all of the highlights of the city, as well as get a lay of the land. Also provides you with less known stories of interest. Well worth the price ($28 for adults).
