Needed somewhere central to stay whilst I visited for 2 nights. Rates very reasonable if you book in advance and the staff are very helpful. Would recommend.

Next time I will spend a little more to stay somewhere a little nicer. The rooms were clean, but old. The breakfast buffet was a joke, you can only get it between 8 and 10am, and the food was pretty much gone by 9:45.

OK but you could do better in Philly for the price

We stayed here Memorial Day Weekend 2005. The Hampton offers clean comfortable rooms near the Convention Center with a very nice breakfast but it is nothing special. For the price, you can do much better in Philly. The Courtyard by Marriott in the same area offers nicer accommodations, a lobby bar with food , a nicer pool area and a higher level of service than the Hampton for about the same or less price. The staff was pleasant but it is like staying in a factory. The hotel does not have a peaceful atmosphere. We stayed here on Hilton Honor points so that was really the only plus. If I were paying, I would look elsewhere.

Good value, good location

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for 12 nights in March whilst exhibiting at the Convention Center.
The hotel is in a very good location for walking to the main attractions of Philly, and in particular the Convention Center. We had a large, warm comfortable and quiet room. We appreciated the good free breakfast and free highspeed internet access in our room. The downside for us, staying for a long time, was that we had no fridge or microwave in the room. There is an indoor pool/spa, which is a bonus although we didn't get time to us it.
The majority of the staff were very pleasant, with the exception of the Reservations Manager who checked us in - we complained about her unfriendly and unhelpful attitude to the Assistant Manager, who took our comments on board and reduced our nightly rate and gave us one free night's stay as compensation, which we were quite happy with.

Postive Experience!

Friends and I stayed here the weekend of November 6-7, 2004. We found the hotel very clean and accomodating, and the staff, from the front desk to those we encountered in the elevator to the parking attendant all very friendly.

South Street and the Electric Factory (on North 7th) were a $4 cab ride away, or a healthy walk. Chinatown, convention center, reading market, and the Gallery were all very close. We had dinner at Maggiano's and noticed the Marriott which was our 2nd (and $80 more) choice. It was so crowded there, cars couldn't even get in the front entrance.

We were very pleased with our choice.

A nice hotel

We stayed eight nights at this hotel in october 2004. The hotel was quite good, rooms were clean and spacious and they had coffeemakers in the room. Housekeepers did a great job. The complimentary breakfast near the lobby was very good indeed, the food was tasty and newspapers were available. The location was close to the center of the city, so it was an easy walk to the Gallery shopping mall, Independence Hall,Liberty Bell etc.

I don't really have any complaints about Hampton Inn. The location was good, the complimentary breakfast was nice and the staff did their jobs well.
And the price wasn't too high either.

Very good

This is a really nice hotel. Great ambience. Great pool & spa, with work-out room. The rooms were clean. It's in a good location, but a little north of the centre of the action in the city. It was vey quiet at night - no traffic noise. Staff were friendly. Nice bathroom, very clean nice rooms.

Best thing
= the free high speed internet access.
- Breakfast was very nice.

Worst thing
= the terrible pillows - thin, lumpy & very uncomfortable (we've had much better pillows in much cheaper hotels)

Nice, friendly hotel but further than we thought!

We stayed here the night of August 25, 2004 in a suite. We were 2 adults and 3 children. Immediately upon checking in we learned that the pool was closed for 5 days which it would have been nice if we had been told when we confirmed the room. The suite was very clean, friendly staff however we requested towels on 3 separate occasions as there were 5 people andonly 3 towels and never did recieve them. Breakfast was good and convenient. We did think that the Liberty Bell was only 3/10 of a mile from the hotel but i think it was closer to 3/4 of a mile. It was quite a walk. There were many restaurants within walking distance. All in all it was a good stay but as far as location - if we were going to see the historical district we would want to be closer.

ll like it!

I had a group of 10 in for 2 weeks and the hotel extended many courtesies that helped keep us both comfortable and productive. They responded within 20 minutes when I requested that the chair in my room be exchanged, comped one night when there was a malfunction in the room, and by the end of my stay were cleaning all the carpets, drapes and furniture. Staff was unfailingly friendly and responsive.

I faced balancing a non profit budget and a volunteer crew of business management consultants accustomed to corporate executive travel. I feel I could not have made a better choice.

Juggling three cars in and out, valet parking was the only bump with some apparent disconnect between the front desk and valet--the walkie talkie system may be the culprit--regardless go to the valet don't call.

ve had for a while

When we arrived, we got our room immediately and the staff were extremely helpful. We even got cookies!

The room was very clean and didn't smell but the best surprise was the complementary high speed internet access. We had brought a laptop but weren't expecting the internet access so that was a BIG bonus. Twas nice not to have to find an internet cafe anywhere.

The breakfast in the morning was slightly better than standard continental breakfasts (it had a surprise hot dish or two every morning but nothing too special...still...most hotels give only danishes and bagels). The dining area was nice and bright and the staff were always there to clean up the spills and refill empty containers. Very friendly...just like the front lobby staff were.

The only thing that I wish they had would have been a parking lot on site. We did valet parking (the front lobby staff told us we could do self-parking but it would be in the same lot as the valet and we would have no in and out previledges). We used valet anyway since we didn't feel like driving around Philly. Taxis are pretty cheap so...not a big deal with the parking.

Checkout took seconds and our car was delivered to us within minutes.

We'd stay there again...in a flash.

I thought it was fabulous?

Having read the other reviews here, I changed my booking to the Travelodge which was a few doors up from the Hampton. However, when I got to the Travelodge they didn't have my booking even though I had confirmed it the night before. They found me a room which was too small for the number of people I was travelling with and told me that I'd have to relocate to a different room halfway through my stay. Anyway, I wasn't happy and went across to the Hampton who were able to give me not only 2 rooms but 2 adjoining rooms.

The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly and were able to help us with any problems. Our rooms were lovely and the bathroom was so clean and spacious. The rooms were cleaned everyday and although the linens were not changed (WHY do you need new linens every day? What a waste of time and water) the beds were made (except for one time when my daughter's belongings were left on her bed - housekeeping left a friendly note explaining why the bed was not made).

We loved the facilities downstairs (pool, gym, vending machines) and all were functioning as normal. The free breakfasts were fantastic and there is even an internet station in the lobby. Wow!

The area seemed reasonably safe and has a lovely friendly diner across the road. It is a few blocks from the convention center, markets and shopping. Yes, there is an adult book store like 2 blocks away but the Marriott is closer to it than the Hampton and it doesn't seem to reflect badly on that!

In all, either they've got new staff or I stayed at the wrong hotel because I could not fault it and will certainly be returning if I'm lucky enough to return to Philly.

Top Local Tips for Philadelphia

use the subway We drove into Philly to attend a concert, planning to drive to the arena. As there also was a baseball game going on that night, we were told that traffic would be terrible and were advised to take the subway. The line ran right to the arena area and was quite easy to use, even with small children.

Yellow Bus Company Yellow Bus Company - excellent value, passionate Philly locals with so much to share.

Best bar If you like your bars a little rough around the edges but with spirit and atmosphere go to Dirty Franks. I think it is straight down the 'road' on 13th Street. Not for posh people unless you like to get back to earthy roots
