Wonderful Repeat Stays!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed at this hotel several times on business and each time I come back it gets better! They have recently remodeled the rooms and they have implemented the Crowne Plaza "Sleep Advantage". There are quiet floors (all the floors are pretty quiet, however) and in each room they have amenities to help you get a better night's sleep! There are eye shades and a clip to keep the curtains drawn together to prevent morning sunlight from getting in. They also have lavender linen spray and a sleep cd that takes you through guided muscle relaxations to help you fall asleep faster!

All of the beds are BRAND NEW and they are very comfy - plus there are seven pillows on each bed! The linens are clean and the pillows are fluffy. The room and bathrooms are also very clean.

The Elephant and Castle pub downstairs has a very wide menu selection and the food is great!

There is no shuttle from the airport, but a cab is $20 + tip to anyplace from the airport to downtown! There are also shuttles operated by 3rd parites that are cheaper but they make a whole bunch of stops and take quite a bit longer to get to the airport.

Crummy Service; Small Rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
Booked for $189! Teeny tiny rooms, lacksadaisical bell service, promised early check-in and had to keep waiting, concierge was inept, bathroom was unsatisfactory, parking charge was an inflated $28, Club Level had no services whatsoever - breakfast was a little fruit and some stale bagels in a converted guest room on the 8th floor ("Crown Lounge" my petut!). The only redeeming quality was an assistant manager who reduced our rate slightly due to lack of Club Level Services available.

A great hotel, very friendly staff, central and well kept rooms.

The staff were very friendly as were all the people in Philadelphia. Our room was very comfortable and clean, we also had a breakfast included as well as a reception in the evening with cheese and wine. If you do o to Philly visit the "Ducks Tour" and the Old Town, also the King of Prussia shopping mall stopping of at half time to have a bite to eat in the "Cheesecake Company", absolute heaven.

Rooms too tiny for a three-star

from A TripAdvisor Member
My reaction was much the same as that of the reviewer below who stayed here on a Hotwire reservation late last October. I got it at $84 (on a night on which Hotwire was offering no two-star in Center City below $130) and so it was not bad for the money, but the problem is I got it on Priceline as a three-star, and it is no three star (by general hotel rating standards, not the lower ones of these reviews.)

Like that reviewer and others below, I found the room too small and cramped to ever be considered up to three-star standard. Granted, downtown in a major city you expect rooms to be smaller than elsewhere, and so I would consider this an acceptable two star given the above-average quality of furnishings and decor. Just a block from the Liberty Place towers, it is probably a quite satisfactory choice for single business travelers whose first priority is to be in the very center of the office building district.

But for a couple or family on a pleasure visit, my room would have been much too small to be comfortable, and according to front desk staff to whom I complained, it is typical of their standard rooms. I have been in Manhattan one stars with more usable space. Basically, the room was a long narrow hallway which consumed much of its square footage, slightly widened at the end to be able to put a bed and TV stand/dresser with just enough space for one person to slip between them (sideways.)

This is, in fact, a converted Holiday Inn, and more pillows and toiletries than you would get in a Holiday Inn don't do enough to conceal that fact. Except I've never been in a Holiday Inn with rooms this tiny. Housekeeping seemed fine, and the bedspread, dresser, wallpaper and the picture on the wall were all quite attractive. Just one cheap chair, though (no room for more), a tired looking rug, and a nondescript bathroom which along with the extremely cramped space gave it an overall cheap feel despite the attempts to make it seem upscale. Beware of bidding three-star for Downtown on Priceline--this is OK if you get a low enough price and that or its location is a priority, but it's definitely not a three-star. And in evaluating price, if you will have a car consider that parking is $28.

t stay here.

I stayed here for three nights. On my third night in the hotel my door was opened and there was an entry at 12:30 AM - the secuirty bar was drawn over or my room would have been entered by a stranger. I called the front desk and told them. I never heard from them again. I stayed up the rest of the night and left the next morning in a hurry to catch Amtrak to NYC. No mention was made of my call or what had happened. I called and emailed the hotel over the next two weeks. Finally they called and offered me a comp night at the hotel. They said the card reader trace had shown it was a maintenance call. I would never stay at this hotel again.

Crowne Plaza Employs Crowne Staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
We visited this hotel on a promotional package that included 2 nights with breakfast. The location is very convenient to area attractions.
We took the free shuttle ( from the hotel) to get the city trolley tour and this took us right where everything was in close range. The trolley and horse drawn carriages are a great way to get a feel for the city. The hotel itself is merely fine:
rooms small but comfortable
beds are upgraded...I did not see the sleep kit???
bathrooms outdated
lobby clean
restaurant is average
**** but the staff are splendid! When we called for room service, I mentioned to Ishmael that we drink STARBUCKS coffee at home but
( laughingly)would settle for whatever they had. He went across the street and purchased some STARBUCKS coffee to brew especially for us. WOW! That was customer service and he was very pleasant and helpful! HE IS A KEEPER!!!
Stay here if you want to be treated with kindness and a smile, looking for a convenient location but not if you are looking for superior facilities.

Great Staff, poor management

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed at a crowne plaza in center city on business. My room very, very, small, paid way too much money. Staff very friendly, Concierge gave great suggestions for dinner and breakfast. Check in and out very fast. Front office manager seemed kind of dense.

Crowne Plaza is a Crown Jewel in Center City!

from A TripAdvisor Member
It was the most pleasant experience. Four days in early October in Philadelphia and the Crowne Plaza Hotel Center City is certainly a quality hotel. The staff was courteous and the room was first rate. Would I come back to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Philadelphia? Absolutely. To me it was a great bargain and a choice location in the heart of Philadelphia!

Great place

from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed at the Crown Plaza and found the hotel excellent. The rooms are large and the comforter and pillows are great. I would definitely recommend this hotel. We found the concierge very helpful. After checking out, we left our luggage for the day while we did some siteseeing and upon our return we asked him to fill our six pack cooler with ice, which he did without complaint. This will be my hotel of choice when I return to Philly.

Good Restaurant/Bar - Small Rooms

from Bluegrasspicker
Great restaurant/bar,
Rooms are small though, and not the cleanest - especially the bathrooms - they need a complete upgrade of rooms.
Enjoyed our stay overall.
3 stars - not 4.

Top Local Tips for Philadelphia

King Tut packages A number of hotels are offering King Tut packages with VIP tickets included. Well worth it, as non-VIP tickets are based on a timed entry. You have your own check in (any time you want to arrive), complimentary coat check, and VIP lounge. Definitely go for it.

The Philly Attitude Let your senses be your guide- when walking around Philly, be aware of inner city types who like to blast their radios in their SUV's and walk up and down the street shouting obscenities. Know how to navigate Philly, ready to walk alternate routes, and, therefore, you can easily avert trouble.

Django - French Cuisine Amazing french cuisine. Very small place off the beaten path. BYOB
