Happy with our stay!

from Alice
We were upgraded to a spacious clean Executive suite. Our room was located in a quiet back corner of the hotel. This centrally located Courtyard has a nice lobby and tastefully decorated restaurant and bar areas. Gym was well equipped and a decent size pool. We were sorry we were only there one night. It was a crowded July weekend with families and tourists staying in the hotel but we had no complaints about service. Would definitely choose this Courtyard again. We had the bonus bucks rate. Highly recommend the Marathon Grill about 2 blocks down for brunch or any meal. Also, enjoyed the Reading Market Terminal, Betsy Ross House, The Constitution Center and Old City. There are some parking garages behind the hotel.

It was okay but not great

from lovemickeymouse
We stayed at the Courtyard for two days in July. The location for catching the tourism bus Phlash is great as it is right next door. It is also very close to the Gallery Mall, Reading Terminal Market, Convention Center, and right across from City Hall. There is a Quizzo sub restaurant and a small, very reasonable neighborhood grocery and dunkin donuts next to the hotel. The hotel charges quite a bit for valet parking but there's a lot right behind the hotel that charges less for overnight parking. It has a 24 hour guard and we had no problems with our car there.
Getting to the hotel is easy but unforunately the area to pull into the hotel is very small. We had to circle once until there was room to pull our car up and unload our luggage.
The hotel lobby was nice. Upon check in, they couldn't find our reservation through Expedia. I produced a copy of my reservation made weeks in advance and a room was secured for me. The room they gave my family of four was spacious with two double beds and one nonreclining chair and a desk.
There was a refrigerator in the room but no microwave. There was a small coffee pot and a basket filled with two packages of regular coffee, two packages of decaf coffee, one regular tea bag and one decaf tea bag. There were two packages of coffee mate powder creamer and two packages of sugar and equal. The two coffee mugs next to the coffee maker were dirty. They needed to be removed and cleaned. Fortunately the hotel also supplied two foam cups with plastic lids sealed in plastic wrap to use.
The TV channels were limited, including no Disney or Nick channels which didn't make my kids very happy.
The carpet was stained in multiple areas that looked similar to black ink but the rest of the room appeared clean. The room view was of the office building next door.
The bathroom was okay. The toilet was loud and took two flushes most of the time to get toilet paper to go down. The shower was nothing special. The hotel features Phsique body Products.
Trash cans in the room were also very small.
There is no wireless internet in the room. What they have is a Zum box you hook up to and you have to configure your laptop to work with it. I couldn't get it to work with my Windows 98 laptop and my husband couldn't get it to work with his Windows XP laptop. Neither of us has had this problem before at any hotel and my husband travels weekly on business.
We felt very safe at the hotel, as you have to use your room key to access the elevator to gain entry to floors above the lobby.
The area around the hotel after 6 p.m. is like most downtowns; it clears out.
I don't know if they were having a shortage of housekeepers during our stay but we came back one late afternoon (after leaving at 9 a.m.) and our room hadn't been touched by housekeeping. My husband called down to the desk and housekeeping came up within 20 minutes. She did apologize for the state of the room and she looked so rushed that I told her not to worry about changing and making the beds. I'd just appreciate it if she got the trash (very small trash cans), gave us clean towels, coffee, and foam cups. She did promptly. Again, I'd like to think housekeeping was just having a bad day and hopefull, this is not a daily problem.

Except for Charles, who helped with our luggage, the rest of the hotel staff was cool and impersonable. I went next door to their sister hotel, The Residence Inn, and was met with a smile, how are you, welcome to Philadelphia and I wasn't even one of their guests! I asked them if I could have a Phlash map and the lady behind the counter smiled and gave me one and explained it and their subway system without me asking. I was impressed, especially since I didn't feel the same warmness at the Courtyard.
I don't know if my family would stay here again if we came back to Philly. It was okay but it wasn't great. I definitely wouldn't stay here if I had to pay the rack rate or more than $140 a night because it's not worth it. I've had a better stays at the Hampton Inn at a much cheaper rate.

Cool place to stay

Great place to stay at if you're going to be in the Philadelphia area. There are a lot of things to do and see right around the hotel.

Stayed in most downtown hotels in Philly....Courtyard is by far the best!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We travel to Philadelphia frequently on business and pleasure (in-laws live in Philly). I have stayed at 90% of the downtown and airport hotels, and I must say, this Courtyard is by far the best in value and comfort. Rooms were a nice size, and most importantly, clean!!! Cleanliness of the carpet and bathrooms is really hard to find in the heavily trafficked hotels downtown.

The hotel is around the corner from subway, and is in walking distance to restaurants and shopping. Staff was courteous and prompt.

Hand down, the Courtyard is our "spot" when we travel to Philly! (I plan to book soon for the Christmas holidays).

Good value for money

from AlysG
We stayed here in June this year and found that it lived up to all the Trip Advisor reviews. It was clean, roomy and comfortable and all at a good price and great location.

The Bar Grille restaurant served really good food with service to match - we'd stay here again if visiting Philly.

Great Hotel, Great Location

from bratley
I stayed at Courtyard Downtown Philly. The hotel was beautiful. Very clean and staff was attentive. Great location, could walk to most sites. Valet parking was $29 per day but I suggest parking in the 24 hr lot that is behind the hotel. It costs $15 per day. You won't be moving your car anyway. You can use public transit for everything. The purple bus, called Phlash is only $4 per day and you have on/off priviledges. Definitely worth it. South Street was a disappoinment. Seemed dirty and uncomfortable. Otherwise, Philly was fun. I paid $104 per night thru Marriott's "look no further" rate.

Neat Place to Stay

from LouisianaHerb
Stayed two nightrs in mid April. Rate of $109 which was a bargain. Had a corner room which was clean, and fresh in every way. Staff was friendly and helpful, Restaurant food was well above average. Really neat former City Hall Annex which has been intelligently and creatively made over. You'll never stay in a Courtyard like this. Well located and well managed. I'd stay there again in a minute.

Most pleasant experience.

Spent Sunday night here. Nice rooms, staff pleasant, buffet breakfast delicious. A bedside lamp and a lamp on the TV console didn't work.
That was our only complaint. Otherwise, great location and pleasant staff made our stay relaxed and comfortable. We will certainly stay here again, and would recommend this lodging.

A family with two kids : We enjoyed our stay

from atay21
\my wife and I with our two kids ages 3 and 9 just returned from a weekend stay for a night there. We took a weekend package with an executive room that includes breakfast. We liked the room that is big enough for all the family . The pool is very small but ok for the kids. The service was very good . The bar area is welcoming. Location is very central and convenient. Breakfast rate was added to our bill although it was included in the rate. That I did not like . Make sure you carefully check your bill during check out.

A nice surprise

from Ryan.W
Marriott has a great way of anticipating all the basic needs of the guest, and this property is no exception. I wanted for nothing. Great valet and doormen service, always friendly service at the front desk and you never had to wait. Great rooms with all the basics and nothing more. Great value with good service is what it's all about.

Top Local Tips for Philadelphia

Reading Terminal Market Absolutely visit this amazing market! It is so full of delicious food you may need to eat several meals here, or just get several things at once and try them all! If I get to visit Philly again, I will be having breakfast and lunch here nearly everyday.

The Famous Fourth Street Delicatessen is a gem! The Famous Fourth Street Deli on 700 South Fourth Street should be in every guide book. What a fantastic place! The portions are legendary, and it's the best deli food you'll ever have. If you can still manage it, the desserts are unbelieveably good. It took three of us to eat one piece of strawberry cheesecake! The building has many of the original 1920's features. It's enjoyable just to be there and see the celebrity photos on the walls. Dinner isn't as crowded as it might be at lunch and we'd recommend going then so you'll have a chance to talk to the lovely people who run it.

Train from Airport If you elect to take the train from the airport, make sure you have enough cash. The ticket vending machine does not work at the station and you can only purchase your ticket on board.
