Always the first place I call in Philly.

The Alexander Inn is a great hotel. I've stayed there a couple times, just for a weekend in the city, and have had a great experience every time. Whenever I am planning an overnight or weekend in the city, I always call the Alexander first. The location is wonderful for me and the staff is always courteous and friendly. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The only negative thing I can say is that I'm very dissapointed when I can't get a room...I like it THAT much. Highly recommended!!!

Tiny room - otherwise nice

Stayed one night. Location is excellent, walking distance to Liberty Bell, Independence square. Parking is discounted for guests ($10 - No in and out). Continental breakfast okay, staff friendly.
Biggest problem was room size. We had a queen bed, and along with a couple of nighttables, that's the room. We had no decent room for our suitcases - even the closet was too small.

Alexander Inn Thumbs Up

from Dianne47
Stayed two nites at this comfy boutique hotel, where I was treated like royalty with lots of personal attention from a friendly and helpful staff. The buffet breakfast was very good, bananas & apples are left out 24 hours a day for sudden hunger attacks. The "great room" where breakfast is served is the equivalent to a B & B living room, with sofas, chairs, dining tables & chairs, and side tables with newspapers. My queen room, one of the least expensive in the house, was small but very clean and fine for a party of one. Very small bathroom with pedestal sink, toilet, and shower (no tub). Very nice amenities included shower gel, shampoo, soap, & shower cap. King rooms are larger with a bay window seating area and tub/shower. I would recommend this property and stay here again.

A wonderful place to stay!

I went here to celebrate a 2 year anniversary and was quite impressed! The room was nice and the hotel itself was beautiful and well decorated for the holidays. Breakfast was satisfying as well. Lastly, the staff were very friendly and informative. We plan to go back next year!!

Ok You Got Me

All kinds of strange and rude noises during the night from the other rooms/guests. I kind of figured out where I was staying midway through the weekend. Thanks for the straight advertising. You got me once but not next time.

Great Stay!!

I stayed at Alexander Inn for a week in early September. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful with hints, help and directions. Breakfast was well done and well stocked. The location cannot be beat since it is within walking distance to anything you want to do - museums, historic, bars, clubs, restaurants - you name it. I will definetly be back as soon as I can.

Terrific Boutique Hotel

from lalo92262
I have stayed at the Alexander Inn many times over the past few years and I am very happy that I found the hotel. The location is great. A boutique hotel in a bustling Center City neighborhood. The rooms and hotel are tastefully decorated and everything is very clean. The rooms can be a tad small, expecially the cheaper ones, but they are perfectly fine for one or two people. Generally the front desk people are very helpful but I have run into times where they act a bit aloof. I never let it bother me. It's a minor annoyance. For me the Alexander Inn has become my home away from home when I'm in Philadelphia.

Great place to stay!

Very quaint hotel with friendly staff in a nice neighborhood. The room was clean and comfy - only downfall was that it (the room) was a little small, but certainly didn't make the stay any less pleasurable. I highly recommend.

The Alexander, Mostly good, but some Bad

from PARIS182
I occassionally spend the weekend downtown at hotel even though I live less than 1 mile away in NE Philadelphia. I had an occasion to do this last year in early spring. I found that the Alexander Inn was at once more than I hoped for and less.
The rooms are small, but very well decorated and quite clean. The Renovation of the building has been done in fine taste, but I am not sure this is a place that you would want to go with children of any age, or if you were planning on spending a large amount of time in your room (or were stuck there because of inclement weather).
That said if your are shopping, taking in the sites or touring, it is close to almost everything, both the raffishness of South Street, Society Hill and the Historic District and the Ave of the Arts.
There a many good resturants within hailing distance. at all prices.
The Continental Breakfast is well doneand if I remember fruit was available ATC.
Now the other part. Several reviews here have spoken about the difficulty with staff. While I did not find them rude per se, I did find they were somewhat offhand and unprofessional. And apparently a 24 hour desk, means that the staff has leave to sit outside on the stoop smoking and gossiping, something which somehow I found off-putting.
That said, I am going again in June as a minor B-Day celebration for myself, so I am willing to give it a second chance.

Loved the Alexander Inn

from bluemanma
Based on weekend stay, I'd heartily recommend the Alexander Inn. The staff was oustanding both very knowledable about Philly and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The Alexander Inn is centrally located, close to the major tourist destinations and I think a bargain.

Treasure in the city!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our stay was extremely pleasant and we would highly recommend it to our friends and relatives. Our room was very comfortable and afforded a nice view of the downtown area. The room was small but we did not feel cramped at all. The inn is located close to all of the major attractions. It's a great neighborhood that makes you forget that you are in one of the largest city on the East Coast. The staff was most pleasant and knowledgeable. We truly enjoyed the breakfast buffet as well. It was a great way to start our days.

A Real Gem
