Stayed at Ramada Inn Hazleton while on a fun biking/rafting trip with my fiancé, brother & his girlfriend.

We got there and they gave us a key to a dirty room (Bed not made, etc.). It took us close to an hour to get another room. A number of other irate guests were complaining at the front desk. We finally got a room, and the beds were made, but it was dirty!! (Stuff in the trash, the cleaning staff obviously did a terrible job.) Ew.

Not recommended at all. The best things were the Burger King next door, which has great coffee, and the pool.

Top Local Tips for Hazleton

Check the Local History The coal mining history of this area is fascinating. Check out Eckley Miners Village for a look at this historically and ethnically diverse area. View the monument in nearby Lattimer to the victims of the Lattimer Massacre, a labor dispute in the late 1800's. Also drive around through the local "patch towns" stopping in Stockton where there is a monument to the Stockton Mine Disaster. Drive the road from Eckley to Weatherly (Buck Mountain Hill) and experience one of the weirdest roads in PA. It winds like a snake with hairpin and blind curves....very cool.

Check out Jim Thorpe, PA On our way to Hazleton, when we were about 20 minutes away, we drove through Jim Thorpe, PA. It was like a beautiful picture postcard. The mountain scenery was magnificent. Every building was a quaint little dollhouse. They had an old fashioned train station which looked like it may be a museum. We passed a shop offering river rafting, kayaking, bicycle rentals, etc. I made my husband promise we would go back there one day for a romantic weekend and stay the night in a bed and breakfast. Just to drive through was a treat.
