$11 Million Makeover Should Help

from jackosan
This is a perfectly adequate and average 3-star hotel, probably built in the early 70s. The rooms and bedding are within tolerances. The common areas are tired, as is the exercise equipment, etc., etc. The staff was quite friendly, however.

Didn't bother eating there. The main dining/shopping drag was just a couple of short exits away (they were kind enough to give me a reasonably comprehensive dining guide).

Signs all around advertised that this hotel was to become a Sheraton in September 2006, and that it was in the midst of an $11 million upgrade/update. This should help, as the hotel as a whole does have potential. For now, though, if you're paying published rates, you won't be particularly pleased with the value.

As stated in the prior review, the whole area is in the midst of "big box" construction. Be careful, or you might drive right past the entrance, especially if you arrive after dark (I did).

I'm partial to Starwood hotels, so I'm apt to give this place a return visit next time I'm in the area. (It seems like a nice place to overnight for Penn State football games to avoid the insane prices in State College those weekends).

We stayed at this hotel during a visit to Hershey Park. It is a decent hotel that is a short (<15 minute) drive to the park. The front desk staff was very nice and allowed us to check into our room early. Our room was on the 2nd floor and I highly recommend not having a room on that floor as that is the same level as the pool and there is a distinct "pool" smell that permeates the area.

The room is fairly basic- the cleaning staff did not leave enough towels in the bathroom and failed to leave coffee for the inroom coffee maker (but that was corrected by the front desk staff). The pool was crowded but everyone was enjoying the nice weather at the pool so that was to be expected.

Apparently the hotel is going through a large renovation and is becoming a Sheraton in the fall of 2006. I think the hotel will be much nicer at that point as it is looking like the rooms/hallways/hotel is in need of a remodel.

Terrible Service

from kc700
I was looking forward to staying at this hotel because of the great reviews. I booked a non smoking room and didn't receive one upon arrival. I was told that the non smoking room was the only one available. The staff was not nice or willing to upgrade me to another room.
My famiIy and I slept in a stuffy smoke smelling room and left early in the morning. The lobby and the pool were nice.
In terms of customer service - terrible. I do not recommend.

Great hotel..clean rooms...but low ceilings in hallways

from frenchi1971
We stayed at this hotel this past weekend (8/4-8/6). It was only 15 minutes from Hershey, an easy drive when you are tired from the park/attractions. The hotel was nice and the rooms were very clean. The bathrooms were clean, too. Had no problem sticking my 8 year old in the tub for a bath.

1. Close to Hershey
2. Easy to drive to attractions
3. Clean hotel
4. Nice pool (indoor and outdoor)
5. Friendly and accomodating staff

1. The ceilings in the hallways are VERY LOW. They are those paneled ceilings...I felt closed in
2. Do not get a room on the 3rd floor....this is the health club level. Very musty smelling
3. LOTS of construction going on in the carea...not much to look at...
4. Not cheap

OVERALL, great hotel...may try another hotel next time, though.

great hotel

from jdktravel
I stayed in this hotel for two days in June. We wanted a hotel that was not very far from hershey park . We thought the hotel accomodations were great and the people at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. I found everything to be very clean and it was a very easy drive to hershey park. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

A Must Stay Hotel....

from TechJunky
We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights while visiting Hershey Park. We have stayed at other hotels in the Hershey area as we go yearly. This hotel is by far the best we have stayed at. Everything about this hotel was excellent...The pool was wonderful (indoor/outdoor pool) and well kept. The rooms were spacious, clean and quiet. The restaurant in the hotel was great. Not only was it good tasting food....the portions were large!!! If you sign up for Wyndham By Request....you get lots of little perks. Do yourself a favor and give this hotel a try...you wont be disappointed.

Very Nice, Accomodating Hotel

from Tfam91
We just got back from an overnight stay at the Wyndham. We bought the Hershey Package for 259.00 which included the room, breakfast (nice buffet, not continental), 2 adult tickets to Hershey and a parking pass for Hershey. The hotel was very clean and the rooms, although average were very nice and very clean. The beds were confortable with down comforters, not your typical velux nasty blanket. They had a turn down service. There indoor and outdoor pool was spacious. We stayed on the 7th floor and the hotel was crowded and we heard no noise.

My only complaint was being a by request member, my requests were not given. The room service is EXPENSIVE!!!!! For a 12 inch pizza and a cheese steak sandwich with 3 cans of coke, came to 40.00! There was a 20% service charge, delivery charge plus tax added.

I still would stay there again. It is a very nice place. About 10-15 to Hershey.

very clean, typical hotel room, friendly staff

from jes1969
Wyndham was a great location if you are going to Hershey Park. It is about a 10-15 minute drive, mostly just highway. The room was very clean and the staff was great about letting us check in early. We called when we were about 1/2 hour away and they said to come right over (about 1:00pm) even though check in was 4:00. Also, we were supposed to have a mini fridge in our room, which was not there. However, one call, they sent it up in about 10 mins - again, very friendly staff. Our kids loved the indoor/outdoor pool and we loved the hot tub. There does seem to be a lot of construction around the building, so request a room overlooking the pool instead of the parking lot so you don't have to hear it or see it. When I booked the room, I thought I was getting the "deal of the century" - I got a price of about 1/2 of the listed rate... don't be fooled by this - there is no way that our room was a $278 room... it was just your basic hotel room. The biggest piece of advice that I have regarding this hotel is to book it directly on the Wyndham website instead of a hotels.com, priceline.com etc. Wyndham guarantees to match the price and then you can sign up for their free "byrequest" service which provides lots of little extras (late check out, free arrival snack in your room, etc).

ok stayed for two nights with my husband and two little children. The staff were very polite, check in was great, easy. the staff was very very helpful giving maps of the area, coupons when applicable etc. The room was clean and we needed a refridgerator and pack n play crib which we got quickly and without problems. Dislikes Despite the nonsmoking room our beds and the room stunk of cigarette smell. When we got home, I had to wash all the clothes that we had used and NOT used since Everything Smelled terrible. That to me was disgusting. Second was the indoor pool was noticeably and consistently a little too cloudy and left a yucky salty taste on our bodies which we quickly washed off with showers. I don't think it was as hygenic as it could have been.

no complaints, nice hotel

from lkloc
As always, reading a few negative reviews of a particular hotel makes it difficult to feel comfortable with the decision to go ahead and book a stay there. This hotel got mostly great reviews, so I wasn't too hesitant...but you never know til you get there.

Anyway, I have no complaints. The hotel was nice, the rooms were nice, the breakfast buffet was nice (everything you'd expect on a breakfast buffet and the food was good), the pool was nice--everything was nice. No problems with check in or check out and there was plenty of parking. Elevators were slow, but so what...I wasn't in a hurry. Two guests mentioned the ice machines on their floors didn't work, but the one on my floor (8th) worked just fine.

Some posters mentioned a small bathroom. I don't think it was any smaller than most other hotel bathrooms. And it was a nice bathroom--tastefully decorated, nice Golden Door amenities (that the maids refilled every day eventho I had plenty left from the previous day), great shower. In fact, I especially liked the shower curtain. It was on a curved rod which allowed extra room in the shower.

I joined Wyndham By-Request and was able to customize my room and I got everything I asked for--robe, feather pillows, high floor, welcome snack and beverages. When I called the By-Request mgr and asked for extra pillows and an extra towel, they were at my door within 10 minutes. The room was also tastefully decorated and of average size. The beds were comfortable with nice bedding, including having a down blanket between 2 top sheets to make it extra comfy. The only things showing wear were the lamps. Since, I was traveling w/ kids, I would have preferred a table and chairs to a desk. But that was no big deal.

They have a room service special going on now that I wish we could have taken advantage of: Three 12" one topping pizzas--I believe they're made by Uno, and a 2 ltr soft drink for $23.99. I guess it's a popular deal since I noticed that several guests on my floor left the pizza boxes outside their doors in the morning. It's always nice when hotels offer deals like that and give families a chance to save a little money on vacations.

Locationwise, the hotel was about 10 min or so from Hershey Park and 30 min or so from Lancaster Co. The kids loved the hotel and my husband and I were very pleased as well.
