Historical Traveller Reviews of Quality Inn at General Lee's Headquarters Hotel

pretty nice

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a nice night in this motel, my husband was quite excited to realize that it probably was the same place he had been with his grandparents in the late 50's. The bedroom and bath still looked a bit old, but it seemed very clean and our regular 2 beds room had a lot of space. Unfortunately the brewery was closed on Mon/Tue, when we were there, so we ended up eating somewhere else. It was nice and quiet at night, and the outside pool looked popular, we didn't try it. The staff was very friendly.

It was really nice!!!

My husband and I just came back from spending the weekend at this hotel for our anniversary and we loved it!! We had the private room 149 that was like it's own house (only 2 rooms in the entire building) and it was really nice. It also was used as a hospital during the battle, so very historical as well. It was very clean, with a ton of space!! There is a pull-out sofa, so even 4 could stay and still be comfortable! The air conditioning was very cool which was great, since it was super hot when we were there!! There also was a mini kitchen in the room and a microwave and a refrig. The cont breakfast was nice too, and added bonus. Can't ask for much more! We said we would definitely stay again and in the same exact room!!! We had fun in Gettysburg looking at the historic sites and shopping!! Let me know if you have any further questions!!

We have just returned from Gettysburg and our room at the Quality Inn at General Lee's Headquarters was great. It was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The pool area was always clean and plenty of chairs. We will stay there again.

Good hotel, great staff

I get confused with the little dot ratings here on TripAdvisor. 4 dots is "above average", but this does not equate to a 4 star hotel. The QI at Lee's headquarters is a solid three star motel, but it's above average. I stayed overnight 5/22/05. The room was clean and well appointed, but yes there was a strong musty odor as reported by other as if there had been flooding at some point. The motel is located about a mile west of town on Route 30, at Seminary Ridge. Historians will note this location as the Confederate battle lines on the day of "Picketts Charge". There is a very good brew pub / restaurant attached to the property.

The museum is a three room house that includes some documents showing proof that Lee slept here. Some battle ordinance as well. It's a freebie and worth everything we paid, though there was more to see at the gift shop.

I'd stay here again. Let's give it a solid three dots.

Best Gettysburg Hotel for value and quality

from Longstreet
We travel often to Gettysburg and we have found that Quality Inn Larson's is by far the best hotel in the area. The prices are comparable with other hotels. The rooms are clean and well kept. The grounds reflect the pride of the owner and staff in their facility. The location is excellent being on the area of the First Day's Battle. While all these factors make this a great place to stay, it is the quality of the staff that makes this hotel excellent. You will not find more friendly, accomodating, pleasant and hospitable staff. They will take care of your needs and they are always willing and able to provide assistance. It is not often that you meet such nice people in this commercialized world. This is true of the owner and the entire staff from the office staff, to the housekeeping staff and to the maintenance staff. Everybody works to make your stay as pleasant as possible. As frequent visitors to Gettysburg, this is the only hotel for us.

Great Little Hotel!

My husband and I just returned from a very nice stay at Quality Inn Larsons. We spent two nights in a nonsmoking king and one night in the General Lee suite. The standard king was clean and comfortable, and tastefully appointed. The room was very spacious for a standard also. The only minor drawback was the height at which the shower head was placed. The General Lee suite was BEAUTIFUL! I wish we could have stayed all three nights in this fantastic suite. The two bedrooms each had four poster beds, one a king and the other a queen. There was a sitting area with a sofa, a chair, television, microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. They even provided silverware! The decor was pleasing, nice prints on the walls. The bathroom was my very favorite part, a one person Jacuzzi tub!

The staff were nice enough, but the continental breakfast left something to be desired. Three types of cereal, english muffins, bagles, and mini muffins that, in my humble opinion, are better off left alone.
The milk, juice, and coffee were all very good, as were the bagles, but more variety would have been nice.

All in all, considering the location, the rooms, the staff, and the price, I dont think you could beat this place. Students of the battle will enjoy staying on Seminary Ridge, and from the right room you can literally look out the window and see the part of the battlefield where much of the first day's action took place. Right outside our window in the standard room, were two cannons like those used in the battle, and placed as they the would have been during the war.

Wonderful Place!

Since 1975, my husband and I have been staying at this motel. We especially love their suites, so at this point I could not write a good review regarding a regular room. The suites come in a variety of prices, sizes and amenities. The Inn on Seminary Ridge is excellent for families. There is a large bedroom with queen size bed, jacuzzi in the bathroom, living room with pull out sofa bed and upstairs bedroom with double bed and small bath and shower. Historical building - very nice. The Upper Dustman has no jacuzzi, but is wonderfully appointed with nice bathroom and very large bedroom and king size bed. For the winter, the fireplace room is nice- on the small size, but queensize bed and nice size bathroom. The Oak Ridge Room has king size bed, jacuzzi in the room and patio with sliding glass door. For a special treat, the General Lee suite is lovely- very historic and sits above the General Lee museum. Has two bedrooms with king size bed in one and full bed in the other. Also has living room with pull out sofa, bathroom with one person size jacuzzi. There are three other suites, the Lower Dustman and two across the road, in which we have stayed, but can't recall their names. Our favorites are the General Lee and the Upper Dustman.

For those who like a more quiet environment, this is lovely location. It is near the Peace Light part of the National Park and not in the middle of the tourist, very busy area.

The only thing I would improve is the continental breakfast. More choices of cereal, juice and danishes/donuts are needed, plus a larger place to sit.

Enjoyable Quality Inn

from MotherHen
My husband, 2 children, and I stayed in the Buford Suite, which is two-story. Beautiful suite, well maintained, nice jacuzzi and king-size bed upstairs; full kitchen. Located next to battlefields. A bit of a walk to downtown Gettysburg. Cool museum on premises, and the pool and breakfast were adequate.

downside - Right next to busy street (not as busy at night); no soap, shampoo/conditioner in room. Saw a couple of ants in kitchen - but not invasive. Queen-size pull-out couch in living room on ground floor not comfortable.

Excellent location

from mks03
We stayed here for one night during a brief visit to the east coast. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was fine. The room was adequate. Our family enjoyed the use of the pool. There is a restaurant/brew pub next to the inn that was enjoyable. What we liked best though, was its proximity to historic sites, including General Lee's headquarters, which is on the premises. It is free of charge to visit if you're staying at the inn. The inn is on the edge of town and you can clearly see expanses of greenery where battles were waged. Some of the monuments are on the edge of the site--easy to walk to. I would highly recommend this inn.

Great Hotel

We enjoyed our stay at The Quality Inn Larson's immensely. The room was clean and the breakfast was very enjoyable. The staff was friendly and professional at all times. Very peaceful location across from the battlefield. Quiet and out of the way, yet convenient to town and the Visitor's Center. Would definitely stay here again!

Top Local Tips for Gettysburg

Winter Go in the winter. This place is a ghost town (literally) and everything is cheaper and there is no one around.

Run the battlefield. My wife did her early morning jog from the hotel along West Confederate way. She started at the hotel, and ran along the route the front dest gave us. Before she knew it she was along Gen. Buford's line for the first day, then into Lee's lines for the 3rd day. She said it was very moving to be there just after the sun came up. This is a great location, even though it is on the west side of town.

Places to eat We enjoyed The Pub on the square in Gettysburg. They had a Sweet Potato Soup with rasins and cinamon crutons that my wife LOVED... it was a meal in itself. Service was a tiny bit slow (we had a 4 year old with us) but The Pub was a good place for kids. A better place for kids was Gen. Picketts Chicken Buffet . The staff there were very nice and plesant and I really liked the place, they let our 4 year old eat free and our 11 year old for only $1.99!
