A horrible experience
I called the Surfside Resort from the east coast three weeks in advance so that I could get an oceanfront suite for my family of four. I got a confirmation number and a happy sense of having a secure reservation.
When we arrived, the woman behind the counter denied any knowledge of our reservation, and when I presented our reservation number (A202) her response was "I already rented that room". She acted as though the entire situation was our fault. This was not a late arrival, either - she had forgotten our reservation and had decided that the best defense is a good offense. The woman's nasty demeanor and offensive attitude made for an experience that my two little girls will remember for a long time.
I guess we should feel fortunate that she had another alternative for us - a room with a view of the parking lot. Otherwise we would have been back on the road without options despite our planning. The fact that the place is a DUMP in serious need of basic maintenance might have been forgiven if we hadn’t been treated like dirt.
