Top Local Tips for Rockaway Beach
Get over to Manzanita One of our best finds on this trip was a little town named Manzanita. Just go there. You'll love it! It's a quaint little town with interesting shops. Very scenic and nestled amongst the trees, even though it's right on the ocean. There's a huge sandy beach to enjoy there as well.
Best kept secret. If you miss the nostalgia and charm of an older and quiter beach scene; Rockaway Beach is the place for you. The beach itself is seven miles long, uncrowded and beautiful. The prices are often cheaper than more "popular" beach towns on the cost. The best place to eat is at the Pirates Cove just south of Rockaway Beach on Highway 101, in the town of Garibaldi. The food there is wonderful and the view is lovely. If you desire a little more action, Seaside Oregon, a favorite of college and highschool spring break tourist is a relatively short drive up Highway 101. I stay in Rockaway and drive to the other towns when I'm in the mood to do more than relax on the beach. In my opinion Rockaway Beach is the best kept secret on the Oregon Coast.
Find a different one The beach is beautiful and peaceful, windy some days and they have a kite festival every year.

When we arrived, the woman behind the counter denied any knowledge of our reservation, and when I presented our reservation number (A202) her response was "I already rented that room". She acted as though the entire situation was our fault. This was not a late arrival, either - she had forgotten our reservation and had decided that the best defense is a good offense. The woman's nasty demeanor and offensive attitude made for an experience that my two little girls will remember for a long time.
I guess we should feel fortunate that she had another alternative for us - a room with a view of the parking lot. Otherwise we would have been back on the road without options despite our planning. The fact that the place is a DUMP in serious need of basic maintenance might have been forgiven if we hadn't been treated like dirt.
