Historical Traveller Reviews of Riverplace a Larkspur Hotel
Absolute Perfection at The River Place Hotel
We stayed at the River Place Hotel in Portland Oregon over the Thanksgiving holiday. I work in the visitor industry on the island of Maui and when travelling, I tend to look at all aspects of an accommodation very closely. The River Place was perfect. The rooms and the common areas of the hotel were pristine and beautifully appointed. The hotel staff was professional, very friendly and helpful. Everything was functioning in their business center which had three computer stations and no waiting line. The city and river views were lovely. Whether travelling to Portland for business or pleasure, if cleanliness, attention to detail and quiet elegance are what you are looking for, look no further....
Perfectly nice hotel, but a large number of rooms (close to one half, from what I could tell) open into an interior courtyard where the "view " is of the hotel room across the courtyard a few tens of feet away. Looking out onto the street would have been far preferable. Moreover, the price differential between a river view room and an interior view room seemed quite large. Free internet usage and computer usage, which is defintely a plus.
5 star prices, 4 star staff, 3 star service and a 2 star room. Really, a lot of money for a lot of nothing. We stayed in a fireplace riverview suite on the corner of the 3rd floor which is supposedly one of the nicer rooms. The layout was bizarre, the furnishings dated and the view was mostly of the Marriott unless you were sitting on the bed where you could look north up the river. There were few amenities and when we requested milk for our tea and coffee 5 hazelnut flavored coffemate servings were delivered to our room. Just not what you expect for $340 a night.
great location however
We recently stayed at this lovely property. We had a condo with a kitchen for just one night. Very quiet wonderful location. Swimming and exersice off-site but just miutes away. Great little pizza place on the riverfront board walk. We have a 2 year old so we went to the childrens museum about ten minutes away. Give yourself lots of time to have fun this is the best kids museum I have ever been to. Room service fast and fresh great food we just had breakfast but it was a platefull. Room is large with washer and dryer so I got to do some much needed laundry since we were on a road trip. One drawback, this must be people without kids do not know that a playpen is not a crib. Children my sons age do not sleep in playpens, babies do. I was very specific asking to claify that it was a crib it was not when we got there. This happens all the time. Besisdes that lovely hotel great city. Very nice stay.
Wow!!!!! A wonderful place to rest, relax, and unwind!!!
My husband and I ended up at The River Place after our reservation at another hotel in Portland ended in disaster. Our wonderful experience at The River Place began with our first call to them to see if they had a room available. Every single person we spoke with or interacted with at this hotel was incredible. They were positive, friendly, and efficient. This hotel is located right on the Wilamette River. They have a beautiful bar/lounge with an outside area where you can sit in rocking chairs and just watch the river and the people who walk by. This hotel is easy walking distance into downtown Portland, but I never really wanted to leave the hotel. From the moment I walked into the hotel I felt relaxed and rejuvinated! We stayed in The Grand Suite, which was everything I could want in a room. The only disappointment was the shower. It was pretty small and ordinary in an extraordinary room! The jacuzzi tub was wonderful and the view out of all the floor to ceiling windows was unsurpassed! We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant the next morning. Wonderful, hot blueberry pancakes!!! Yum.... This will be where we stay from now on when in the Porland area!!!!
s the best
What a great place to stay! We had a room at the end of the 2nd floor which opened to a courtyard with a grassy area, trees, flowers, and a large wooden deck that overlooked the river. Our room was very roomy and accommodated the 4 of us quite comfortably (2 adults, 2 children ages 10y & 15y). We had our own room and the boys slept on the queen size pull-out couch in the living room area. The bed was so comfortable we wanted to take it home with us. Lots of pillows, down mattress and down comforter. Also supplied was a pillow menu. There was a TV in each room and a fridge neatly hidden in the corner dresser in our room. Lots of natural sun light and large bathroom. Robes were also supplied. We got married at a small church nearby and then had a gathering at the 3 Degrees restaurant downstairs. Great views, great food and great service! We had ~ 20 people and were seated comfortably with plenty of room and never made to feel that we had to get out by a certain time. If you like to run/walk/exercise, there is a great path that goes along the river and I enjoyed watching the bridges raise up and down. The fun part: the annual blues festival was playing next door on the grassy area. It was only $8.00 to get in. Even with all the noise, we did not hear one band playing after returning to our room-very soundproof. Lots of good shops and restaurants all around within a short walking distance. Staff were all very helpful and nice, even remembering our names. I can't say enough good things about this place. We loved every minute of our stay and our expectations were far exceeded. We are looking forward to returning next year.
Riverplace...it is the Place!
We just stayed for four glorious nights at the Riverplace Hotel. The place was awesome.
Service was excellent, the hotel was beautiful and the rooms were great. Everyone was very attentive to anything we requested...and friendly. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel and the food was very good...not your typical hotel food! But there are lots of others to try in the area. i though it was very convenient to get around everywhere...either using my rental car or Portland's excellent public transportation system.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again...and we thought Oregon was very beautiful. The people there were also extremely friendly and always willing to help with directions or questions.....and no state sales tax on anything you buy!
Will be back again soon!!!! Thanks Riverplace and Oregon for recharging my batteries!
one of the biggest rooms i've seen (stayed here twice). great location - great views if you get them and great robes.
We recently spent one night at the Riverplace Hotel and loved it. We were lucky to reserve a residential suite and it was perfect. Very spacious and the view of the river was wonderful. We brought along our dog as the hotel is pet friendly and were delighted when we received a knock on our door and a surprize for our pup of a tray with doggie dishes including water and food, doggie treats and even a welcome card.
Excellent customer service. The staff was very warm and made us feel right at home.
We are already planning our next trip back.
The place to stay
I would not consider staying anywhere else in Portland. The hotel is nice - but what really makes this worth it is the service (which is always there) and the small things - such as having a Business Center with PCs and free internet. When travelling (on vacation) I prefer not to drag my laptop around - but when arriving in a city it is nice to be able to check the internet for some latest info.
Add a nice location, new and clean hotel - and for us this was just right.
Top Local Tips for Portland
Decidedly NOT a friendly, welcoming place
I was looking forward to a stay at the Riverplace. After my treatment on 30 June 2007, I would never return there again. The staff was completely incompetent and so very rude to me. I have never felt so disgraced and alone in a foreign city.
$2.05 from airport to town
Catch the train as you leave PDX (head right) and be downtown in 20 minutes for $2.05. For this hotel, get off at Morrison St stop - 3rd stop over the bridge - and walk 6-8 blocks along the river to the hotel.
It's easy to get lost
Portland has many bridges being a virtual peninsula between the Willamette and Columbia Rivers. This fact means that it is easy to go way out of your way if you miss a turn. You can easily go over a bridge,or miss a bridge and go miles out of the way because it's hard to get turned around. You definitely want that GPS unit in Portland.
