We looked for a hotel that would accept dogs, and we took our 3-year old Golden Retriever. The location and overall experience was excellent. I would not hesitate to return to this hotel (with or without the dog) next time I am in Portland.

Top Local Tips for Portland

Loved Saucebox for eating/nightlife/happy hour Saucebox Recommended by one of the doormen at the Marriott :) The BEST place to hang out and get some fantastic drinks and cocktails! The atmosphere inside and out seems so unique—really modern and cool decor. We loved seeing the white candles on the black tables at nightfall, and the beautiful murals on the walls. For such a hip looking place, the service was incredibly friendly and down-to-earth. We had some great pan-Asian and Pacific inspired appetizers, including the tapioca dumplings. The food was made very fresh and with just the right spices and seasonings. The drinks were also delicious—amazing choices of juices and fruit infusions, anything you could want. Our only regret was that we were too full to stay for dinner. Highly recommend

Picnic at Lucia Falls An easy 45-minute drive from downtown Portland in Clark County, WA. Great picnic area with easy access. Take the kids. http://www.ci.vancouver.wa.us/parks-recreation/parks_trails/parks/battleground/luciafalls.htm

Trams The tram system in Portland is great and easy to use. Use it to see the sights beyond the city center.
