Historical Traveller Reviews of Park Lane Suites Hotel
Good location, good price. Hotel was decent.
from AustinTriGuy
Stayed here in Sept 2006 for one night. Loved the location - right at Nob Hill and Washington Park (the most beautiful park I've ever run in.) The hotel is okay. The staff is nice, the room was clean to a degree, but the couch in our room smelled bad. On our way home, my wife noticed little bites all over her hands that we think came from fleas on the couch (disgusting!!) Otherwise, it's safe and we had a kitchen and separate bedroom. Plenty spacious for us. The breakfast was terrible - bagels and coffee. But the price was right.
Very nice play to stay in Portland

Excellent. Clean apartments, friendly staff, well located for the light rail at PGE park. I didb't have a car with me but there usually seemed to be spaces, breakfast buffet was limited to youghurt bagels juice and coffee, but that was fine. Would definitely stay again when I'm next iin Portland
Unpretentious, GREAT budget place to stay in trendy area.

We stayed one night at Park Lane Inn and would definitely return on our next visit to Portland. The desk clerk on check in was extremely helpful with dining tips and directions on foot. Parking is a problem in the NW23rd area and we were glad to leave the car behind. There's tons of shopping and dining within walking distance. She suggested touring the nearby Rose Garden. That was on my list of things to see and I didn't realize we were walking distance to it. We had a one bedroom suite on the fifth floor with a territorial view. Room 504. The place had a kitchen/living room and seperate bedroom with bath. Nothing fancy, very comfortable, like an in-law apartment. True about the AC only in living room, but we didn't have a problem with that. Check out is at 12pm, so we had plenty of time to have tea and bagels in the morning, walk up to the nearby Rose Garden, leisurely stroll back, shower, change and check out. We were even allowed to leave our car parked while we walked up to Kornblatt's for lunch. They recently upgraded their cookies in the lobby to Pepperidge Farms. As Rachel Ray would say: YUM!
The walls are thin...

We stayed at the Park Lane last year. They do have wonderful service and a great location! However the walls were so thin we could hear our neighbors pretty clearly. This is not the hotel for light sleepers...
Wonderful place

We chose Park Lane Suites based on TripAdvisor reviews. Our expectations were met in every category! It has a great location--very close to the 21st/23rd Ave shopping areas, Burnside Ave and Washington Park. Staff was friendly and helpful, helping us find parking (which is free!) one night when the lot was full. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious, more like an apartment than hotel room, with free internet access. This is a perfect place if you don't require hotel luxuries like a fitness center, but are looking for a nice place to stay in a great Portland neighborhood.

I hate to write this review, but feel it is only fair. I LOVE Park Lane Suites. For us the location is terrific because we know someone who lives in apartments nearby, so when we go for a visit, it is a handy spot. But, in addition to that, Washington Park is a short walk away, so is 23rd Street with all of its shops and restaurants. Burnside is right there, for drives to Powell's Bookstore and Portland Saturday Market. If a person doesn't have a car, they might want to stay in the downtown area, but this spot is perfect for us.
I truly thought maybe I should keep this secret to myself, so I would always be able to get a room, but it is too good to not review. The staff have always been really nice and the breakfast is simple, but adequate so that you don't have to include breakfast as a meal out.
Will Return

We were very pleased with our suite at Park Lane Suites. Suite was clean, kitchen had everything we needed and bath was small but adequate. The staff was professional and always available. The continental breakfast could be improved with more fresh fruit. We also liked the residental area surrounding the small hotel. Close by were restaurants, shops and places to buy food.
Great place and value

This is the place if you are looking for a good value and don't mind being a little out of the center of Portland. I had never visited the Nob Hill neighborhood before but I really enjoyed it more than staying downtown. I could walk to many interesting shops and restaurants. Also walked to Washington Park and the Rose Garden and Japanese Garden. Could walk downtown, but many folks would rather take cab or bus for downtown and riverfront. Staff very helpful. Furniture in rooms, very tasteful. Well equipped kitchen. Small bathroon is off of the bedroom. The free breakfast is minimal, but I stopped by the Fred Meyers grocery store and bought breakfast provisions for my stay and ate breakfast at my kitchen table. Have to walk across the street to get a newspaper, and if you are late, you will find the newspapers are gone. I decided to stay at this hotel based on comments on this web site, and I was not disappointed.
Nice, comfortable place!

We stayed at the Park Lane Suites October 15 - 17. We arrived early so they held our bags for us and we hit a bar down the street. Our check in was complicated by the website I used to book the room. Bobbie, at the front desk was great. While we were waiting for our room, she checked and corrected our booking problem and had our room ready in about an hour. Our room was on the 4th floor and was very roomy and comfortable. The bathroom is small and the shower faucet needs work, it wouldn't stop running completely and there are some electrical issues. The little kitchen area is great. The problems didn't bother us and we would stay there again, everyone on the staff was very nice and helpful. The area around the Suites and Portland itself has it's share of vagrants and you want to keep aware if you are walking around at nite. During our short trip, we got asked for money and cigarettes at least 4 times. I would also not recommend the Kingston Grill which is nearby the Suites if you are a person of color. We went there for lunch and they served others before taking our orders. We are Mexican-American and Asian-Americans. My boyfriend had ordered a beer and it didn't come, he asked another waitress where it was and she Snottilly said the other waitress was busy. That was a load, she was at the bar cutting up limes and talking up the nice frat boys. I highly recommend Park Lane Suites; don't go to the Kingston Bar and Grill if you want a pleasant time.
Perfect location and really nice staff
from A TripAdvisor Member
We found the best parts of this hotel to be the great location, spacious rooms, tremendously nice staff, and free parking. The bed was small and we would have liked to have had the AC in the bedroom but those were minor issues and I was already aware of them when I booked the room. The Nob Hill area is really close by and contrary to what I have read on other sites it was not Snob Hill and the food was not expensive. I would pick this place just on location alone but what stood out most of all was the warmth of the staff. They went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay and felt welcome. We really thought this was a great value and will return again.
Top Local Tips for Portland
Check out the Deli
There is a great Deli about 2 blocks from the hotel (actually it is much more than a deli), where you can get gourmet hot and cold food to go, excellent cheese and wine selection, dessert, and everything else you can imagine. Great to take back to the hotel!!
Eatery
We love Rock Bottom Brewery. If you like locally brewed beer and good food. It's a fun place to go. They have growlers there to take some suds home. We also love their salmon fish and chips, but they also have a great menu.
Pioneer Square
There isn't much going on here until Friday night when the college kids gather. A great place to people watch.
