Historical Traveller Reviews of Marriott Residence Inn RiverPlace Hotel

will be back!

from kateflyaway
My family and I were in town for my brother's wedding. The room was beautiful and we felt like we had alot of room with two bedrooms. The entire staff was extremely friendly and always greeted us around every corner with a smile on their face. Our room was nicely furnished and was very clean. It felt more like a family run business that truly cares about their business. The breakfast every morning was wonderful-what a great start to our hectic days. We did our laundry on site before leaving which helped as we had a long week of travels. within walking distance of a mall which was nice for last minute wedding shopping. I will be back and will definately recommend this to our friends. Kudos to the staff!

Great stay - awesome location

from RoadtripMommy
We spent one night here on our way from Seattle to San Francisco with our two small children (ages 4 and 1.5). We splurged and got their two bedroom suites with one king and one queen. A bit pricey but worth the price for a short stay. We got the top floor, end of the hall room. We ate at Marina Fish House based on a recommendation by the front desk staff. Great food - kid-friendly. The hotel was clean and spacious. Get there early for breakfast though. The dining area is small for the size of the hotel. The food is better than most. Awesome location - close to the Riverplace "boardwalk". We would definitely go back if we are ever in Portland again.

Nice Hotel

from jerseygirl80
This hotel is located in a nice area of town on the river. There was a nice walkway that takes you to a marina and several restaurants along the way. The room was very clean and the breakfast included in the room rate was definitely above average. They even had coffee and tea available all day long which I thought was very nice. It was probably one of the nicer RI I have stayed. The staff was very friendly and helpful but the shuttle service definitely needs reorganization. I had several inconvenient situations with the service but overall, still a nice hotel and a pleasant stay.

LOVED IT!!!!

from Ginger09
Just returned from a 3 night stay in Portland at the Residence Inn River Place. The staff was always helpful and professional, the room was extremely clean and nicely decorated. We booked a one bedroom suite($99.oo) with a king size bed, plus a sofa bed in the livingroom. The bed was very comfortable. Our 4th floor room had a view of the freeway system, and the river. We never heard much in the way of noise from the freeway. It was handy having a kitchen even though we ate out most of the time. I used the pool on one occasion, it was a good size and the area was very clean. The bathroom was marble with a nice bathtub shower combination. Plenty of hot water, and the tub was good for soaking in after a long bike ride at Forest Park. (If you're interested in renting mountain bikes for the day, check out Fat Tire Farm- Portland-503-222-3276. My husband and I (in our 50's) each rented a bike for a ride in Forest Park. It was mostly up hill, and there were plenty of more difficult trails for the experienced riders. We only made it to the 5 mile mark, but had a blast. The park enterance is up the street from the shop, which makes the Fat Tire Farm very handy). The staff was very helpful in setting us up for the ride and it only cost us 25 a piece). Ok back to the hotel. The only negative things I can think of was that It wasn't easy to get to even though we could see it from the freeway , It cost $21 a day to park and the fact that the windows did not open(I like fresh air when I sleep). I forgot to mention the free breakfast. It was always well stocked no mater what time I went, and had everything I could want. I was very impressed. We've stayed in a few other places in Portland, but I find this place hard to beat. Next time we go to Portland this will be our first choice.

Not if you have only 1 night in Portland...

28 F traveling with boyfriend. I thought the hotel was nice, it was clean and well staffed. This hotel was extremely hard to find and also a WALK to get to the hub of everything. Parking was $21 which seemed a little extreme for something so far off.We were in Portland for 1-night so looking back we should have booked something "downtown" or in one of the great neighborhoods.

Great overall quality!

I stayed here for 3 weeks and loved it! The free breakfast is fantastic and the room was clean, spacious, and comfortable! I also like the pool, spa and work-out area. This is a must if you are looking to stay in the Portland area.

friendly service!

from Leisurely_Traveling
We had a wonderful stay and were furnished everything we needed to keep us comfortable. The Residence Inn offers a wonderful dinner on Wednesday nights and a very nice extended complimentary breakfast with about everything you can imagine. The staff were very polite and helpful. We also used the shuttle service to get around and were very pleased with our stay. We would definitely stay here again, especially over some other places we have stayed in Portland that claim to be more luxurious.

Nice Surprises

from flwSeahawk
My wife and two kids had a great weekend. The living room, kitchen and dining area were generous. The kitchen had a full sized ref/freezer, oven/range, microwave, sink and plenty of counter space/upper cabinets.
The free trolley is just outside the front door. The trolley takes you through all of downtown Portland and arrives every 15 min. (more often during rush hours). The OMSI was within walking distance (18 min) and the free breakfast more than made up for the cost of the covered parking. Free breakfast included all you can eat sausages, oatmeal, cereal, granola, pancakes, scrambled eggs, waffles, doughnuts, bagels, muffins, potatoes, rice, juices, milk, coffee, tea and so on.
The pool and jacuzzi is larger than the photo on their website.
The place is fairly new, and scentless. I did see dogs go through the lobby but I didn't smell or hear them. Next time I might bring my dog.
Various restaurants are within a block along the riverfront.
Lots of bang for the buck.

Best in Portland

from CoTravelsalot
Great hotel - simply the best in Portland - great location on the river and away from the downtown crowd but still close to everything. Great rooms/staff/service. We will return.

Apprehensive at first.....

from msswong2
We stayed in a 2 bedrom suite at the Residence Inn. This is a very pet firendly hotel - they allow BIG dogs and little dogs. I saw people with 2 big dogs in their rooms. The hotel was clean and did not smell like animals, nor was it loud with barking.

The good:

The rooms were very clean and the housekeeping was very very good. The staff is very nice.

The kitchen had everything I needed for my special cooking needs. Bring a sponge though.

The breakfast was crowded but very good and the staff kept up with the crowds.

The location is close to the free streetcar.

I was able to walk to a 24hour fitness nearby.

The hotel is right on the river and you can walk to a few good restaurants.

Easy access to the freeways from this hotel.

The not so good:

The views...there is construction all around, a lot of homeless in the park nearby and the freeway is right out side your window.

The exercise room consisted of a scale, 2 not so nice treadmills , 1 efx machine and part of a universal gym. It's not a fully equipped exercise room.

The shuttle requires a 4 hour notice.

Parking is $18/day

Top Local Tips for Portland

Portland has a great transportation system! We used the public transportation system for some of our traveling. On the other hand, sometimes we just chose to walk around because the city is so pretty. So those that are abled-bodied might have fun doing a little of both like we did!

Shanghai Tunnels Tour Make a reservation to go on the Shanghai Tunnels tour. It was very informative. Beware that it gets hot down there. If you don't like ghost stories, you may want to skip this one. The guide did a great job of painting a picture of what it was like when people were being shanghaied. The tour starts in a sketchy part of downtown, so I recommend taking the earlier tour (6:30).

Rose Garden and Japanese Garden There is an amazing view of the city from the Rose Garden, it is fantastic. And the Japanese Garden which is right next to it is also great, very peaceful and relaxing.
