Downtown Hotel

from Neverfish
Our stay was okay, but nothing great. The room had two doubles (instead of queens) and the bathroom tub/shower did have some mold in the grout. The air vents were clogged and dirty; I guess I just expected more from a Marriott that was on the expensive side compared to other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Oregon. The staff was helpful. My family was sad that there wasn't an indoor pool available. We skipped the valet parking, which was quite expensive. Just go halfway around the block and you can park for around $5 night. We went in and out a few times and it was still a lot cheaper being charged by the hour than using the valet service. The location was in the heart of downtown and we were able to walk to various places.

Excellent Hotel

Did you ever notice that most negative reviews have to do with some perceived slight?
Someone will have an argument with an individual desk clerk and that will color their review on every other aspect of the property. We thought this Marriott was an excellent hotel. The room was well furnished, the beds and linens first rate, the bathroom spotlessly clean and the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Would definitely return.

Very Nice Hotel

Stayed for two nights with my mother. The hotel was beautiful and in a great location. We were able to walk to several great resturants for dinner. The staff was very helpful. Rooms were average/small but have a GREAT view of Mt. Hood and VERY comfortable beds. The only downside was the expensive parking. Would stay here again for a nice treat.

A fine place to stay

from BeeceeBeach
We just returned from a college tour trip to Oregon and on our first night we stayed at the Marriott. The room was a little small, but very clean and the beds were crisp and white and comfortable. We parked in the Crowne parking garage for $5.00 a day and took the walking bridge over the street right into the hotel (the parking valet at the Marriott recommended this). We never had to use the car after we parked it. The location was convenient, especially for our tour of Portland State. We ate a very nice dinner at the waterfront (a five minute walk) and we also hopped on the free and easy downtown transportation system. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was traveling with two teenage girls and felt safe. The rate was reasonable, but probably lower than usual because it was a Saturday night.

I would definitely stay here again.

Marriott...a good experience

Portland Marriott is certainly not the dump that some reviewers speak about. We stayed there for two nights for our christmas shopping trip to portland and liked the hotel. Room was very clean and didn't seem dated at all. Great location on the waterfront and downtown.
Got a rate of 60/night through priceline.
Staff was very freindly, accommodating and helpful. Lots of smiles at the front desk!
We read the reviews before going so we parked at the parking garage a block away...highly recommend doing this if you're on a budget. $5 versus $23.
WOuld definetly return to the Marriott...especially for the price we had!

A good hotel, but not as good as some others downtown

I stayed here recently (for the Portland Marathon) and also at the Portland Hilton and Executive Tower, which was the better of the two. This is an OK Marriott and the waterfront view was quite nice. The food at the sports bar was also above average (although unfortunately smoking in restaurants is allowed in Oregon), and the service was excellent. Finally, on the plus side, there's a mini-Starbucks downstairs. On the negative side of the ledger, the rooms in this hotel appear to be affected by strange noises. I don't know if these noises are caused by old plumbing or whatever, but there were sounds like someone was bowling with a lead ball or throwing marbles around, etc. Some creaking and other noises also came from the bathroom. Strange. The young service staff downstairs also appear to need an attitude adjustment. They seemed to enjoy being less than hospitable to guests, and looking at each other for approval on whatever game they're playing. A complaint was made to the manager about this behavior. All in all, an above average hotel with not many negatives. But there are better choices downtown.

Very clean room (like new), friendly staff, quick check-in/out. Easy access to downtown Portland and the walkway along the river. Check out Veritable Quandary nearby for drinks and dinner, and the Saturday market (river walk in the Park). Too bad we could not get free wireless access for our laptop ($10/day from the hotel).

great for a rainy weekend

from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a three-day rainy weekend. I called in my reservation and got the cheapest room available, which shouldn't have had a view, but I got one anyway when I asked. We ended up on the top floor with a fantastic river view. Paying for parking is a drag, but there is plenty of street parking on the same block as the hotel, and the meter maids don't ticket until 9am. (Don't sleep in if you choose this option) We got valet the first night, and parked on the street the second without any problems (don't leave valuables in the car, it doesn't matter what city you're in). This hotel hosts conventions, so check beforehand if you prefer a quieter experience. We had an amazing time for $89 a night. Highly recommended for folks who don't depend on the hotel for all their entertainment and needs.

Serviceable

from DoctorRamani
Had to go here for a meeting. The location is ok - on the riverfront. Rooms are small - magnified by the fact that I was travelling with children. Typical average hotel onsite restaurants. The coffee bar closes early - (by 6 PM) - so no late night java there. Service is generally attentive - provided in room fridge for free, crib came up quickly, though bell service was lacking - had to bring our own bags up and down. They had an indoor pool, but it was not heated and the air was cool, so not always that comfortable - though when hot tub was on - it was capacious and warm.

Really Liked It!

from MikeLasVegas
My partner and I had a great stay in this hotel. We were cheerfully greeted at 1am when we checked in by both the valet staff and the front desk folk. We asked for a room on a high floor facing the waterfront, and got exactly what we wanted.

The room itself was large and clean. Further interaction with the staff proved positive. The front desk staff answered our questions about the area, provided maps, and were always pleasant. Each time we asked for our car from the valet, it was retrieved quickly, and they always asked if we needed directions.

It's a wonderful hotel in a wonderful location - I highly recommend it!

Great lunch spot Just 2 blocks from the Marriott is the Veritable Quandary, a great lunch spot that has maintained a great menu over the last 4 decades. Always full of locals, an excellent spot for a break from shopping.

The Grotto This place is amazing. Regardless of your religious beliefs, you will enjoy this gem within 20 minutes of downtown portland or even to visit while on a layover at PDX - it's about 2 miles south of the airport.
