Excellent Value for Downtown Portland Hotel

Hotel Lucia is my favorite downtown Portland hotel! I stay here every time I travel to Portland. It offers luxurious amenities at reasonable rates ($130/night). It is located in the heart of downtown so it is close to everything. THe rooms are very comfortable and I guarantee you won't want to get out of those beds.

Stay anywhere but here, and I did....
from A TripAdvisor Member
What's the worst thing that can happen when you book a hotel reservation, pre-pay for it two weeks in advance (orbitz), and confirm your arrival with them on the same day? You check in, they tell you they are over-booked, and they want to put you up at a Doubletree north of the city. There is no manager on duty; the desk clerk is a like a clueless automated robot. Overheard from the staff: "It could be a nice hotel if they didn't have such big problems like this...." Moral of the story: All that glitters (the lobby, some of these other reviews) is not gold. Take it from this platinum mileage business traveler: Why chance it? Stay away. Didn't even get my money back. Lame.
Loved Hotel Lucia
from TrishLB
Stayed at Hotel Lucia for 5 great nights in Portland starting Aug 4th. Each staff member we came across was friendly and very helpful. We did stay in a Superior King and I think it was definately worth the additional $$ for more space. The hotel was definately a pleasant surprise. I also loved the location of the hotel. Close to everything in downtown and close to the transit system as well. I will recommend Hotel Lucia to all my friends who will be visiting Portland in the future.
Great stay!

We had a great stay here marking our anniversary during the 100+ degree heat wave! The A/C was great, and the bed quite comfy. Definitely get a "superior" room for the $25 extra. Staff was very sweet, earnest, and prompt, and we were delighted to find a bottle of champagnge left for us! Two things we didn't love: a glitch in the computer system that had us checking out a day earlier than we were supposed to (this was easily remedied), and the fact that the showerheards were too low (not as easily corrected). On the whole, we'd definitely recommend this hotel!
loved the Hotel Lucia

The hotel is great and the service is perfect. Its worth a walk around just to look at the incredible art and b&w photo collection. Perfect location, and Typhoon actually has a great breakfast.
Food and service were awful
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel has a fabulous, contemporary lobby but that was where the quality ended. The concierge was distracted and inexperienced, the room was small and noisy (traffic noise was horrible) despite being on a high floor, and the room service food from Typhoon restaurant was, to put it mildly, the worst culinary experience I have had in years. $22 (gratuity included automatically) for a withered, cold portobello mushroom with a slice of American cheese on top and a lukewarm Coke? Ugh. The hotel needs a major service training program. Teenaged staff with no experience and no grace doth not a 4 star hotel make. Go to The Benson instead!
disappointed

After reading great things about this "boutique" hotel in various magazines, we were rather disappointed with our stay. The hotel is hip, but lacks the true comforts of a great hotel. Our room was tiny and bordered on claustrophobic. The bed was very comfortable, but with such loud traffic whizzing by on the street in front of our room all night long, we didn't get to truly enjoy the comfort of the bed. We would have much preferred a less "hip" hotel with the true comforts of a great getaway.
My Best Sleeps Ever

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lucia over a weekend in September celebrating my husband's birthday. Before our departure, I called and spoke to the reserv. mgr. in regards to a few special requests. Upon our arrival, I was impressed with the decor. The staff were friendly, if a bit inexperienced. I was disappointed with the room size for sure, very tight fit with a king size bed. The chilled champagne had no opener, there was only 1 robe in the room, the bedside halogen light wasn't working, the hand towels were worn on the sides. I made a call to the front desk, 45 mins later, I made another call to the front desk, this time the manager said that he would attend to the items personally. After a comedy of errors, 5 knocks to our door, we started enjoying our room. The manager was kind enough to make reserv. at their Thai restaurant, on the house, excellent. The bedside light never did get repaired. The best part of the stay was the bed. Pure heaven, we've never had such good sleeps. I had to ask the manager for the bed type.
I would stay again, but only in a larger room type. We had an inner courtyard room, so quiet.

s dream but cramped

We stayed here in August, 2003, and my husband hated the place because he said he felt claustrophoic. The rooms are really quite small. The hip and stylish staff look they are all about 21 years old from a futuristic Gap ad, and seem to wear only black. The furnishings were cool, but, we forty-somethings felt a bit out of place....I didn't mind it as much as my husband, but I literally could not step more then two feet while in the bathroom. In general, an odd hotel, I think. I would stay elsewhere next time in Portland.
Beautiful but loud
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed at the Lucia over a Saturday night. We thought it was very modern, and comfortable. The bathroom was a little small, but the room itself was open and the bed was very comfortable. The only complaint we had was the location. It was great during the day, but at night we were too close to all of the night life, and had to listen to loud motorcycles cruising around the neighborhood. Maybe earplugs would help. If so, then the place would be great.
definitely a vintage rehab

The Hotel Lucia has beautifully designed small rooms and furnishings.
Yes, the walls are thin and you can hear every toilet flush and other sundry noises. I was mostly out of the room except to sleep. Room service was fairly limited. Relatively close to public transportation.
All in all, it was an okay experience and I wouldn't mind staying there again.

Top Local Tips for Portland
Use the MAX Right outside the airport is the lightrail that takes you to Pioneer Square, just a few blocks from the hotel. Do what locals do: use the great public transportation and enjoy the ride into town.
city with a noisy view from the top of the tram Bring ear plugs if you take a trip on the sky tram. The view at the top is nice but sounds like an industrial site due to the motors of the tram. Very poor acoustic design. Maybe noise cancelling headphones will work...
Farmer's markets A must-do for anyone interested in local food. Many of the vendors give out samples.
