Our view was great (we were on one of the top floors and on the corner of the building). The room was clean and the rate was great!

I valet parked my car and my cell phone and money from my change bin was stolen. But my car was not broken into. I wonder how that works?

Our room was old and run-down. It seriously needed refinishing.

The bath linens were filthy, there was large pieces left on the towels from the previous customer.

We asked not to have the bed linens changed, this request was ignored, they were changed including our own personal pillowcases. Our personal pillowcases were never returned to us.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

I booked the room for the entire weekend. We stayed one night even though we were committed for two nights. It was worth it to be able to leave! The room was so small we have to practically scoot around the bed and furniture. I wouldn't stay there again.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Portland & Exec Tower Hotel

Great location

from Daisymom
Stayed here for a conference, so we did not have to pay for the room. We were in the main tower, which is apparently not as nice, but is very convenient for conference facilities. The room was quite small, especially the bathroom, but we didn't really mind. The bed was amazingly comfortable and came with lots of pillows. I used the free fitness room one day - it had about 6 cardio machines and a few weight machines. If was small, but fine. One day I payed for the fitness center and it was much larger with free weights, many weight machines and several cardio machines. It also had showers, sauna, steam room and pool. For $10 it may be worth it if you plan to take advantage of that stuff. The best part about this hotel is that it is in a great location. We walked everywhere - shopping, to the light rail location to go to/from the airport ($1.70 each way), to great restaurants, and to the river to go rent kayaks.

m still dreaming of the bed!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Check-in:
Check-in was so easy and the staff was extremely friendly offering maps of downtown, giving directions to great restaurants and good shopping.

Rooms:
Okay, here is where you may think I'm going overboard, but TRULY, this was one of the BEST rooms I have ever stayed in. Cleanliness....couldn't find a hair on the bathroom floor, shower or even in the darkest corner and we all know it is very easy to find one stray hair lying around! The lighting was wonderful in the bathroom. The shower pressure was strong and washed ALL of the shampoo out of my hair. The room temperature was easy to adjust and the room was very spacious. Now, about that bed. UNBELIEVABLE! I am seriously still dreaming of it 4 weeks later. I even went as far as trying to recreate it at home. (my husband thinks i'm insane) The sheets, I swear, had been ironed before being put on the bed...not a wrinkle in sight. It was plush, six pillows deep, cool, crisp & clean. I think I may have to go to school to learn how to make a bed as perfect...and I've made a few beds in my day.

Facilities:
This is where the only downfall comes. I was there for a conference and whereas the facilities were great, getting to some of the floors was not. It seemed that there were only 2 out of 4 elevators running and there always seemed to be an extremely long wait for an elevator. I waited 15 minutes on several occasions and most times, I had to catch an elevator and ride it up just so I would have a spot on it to go down. Of course everyone started getting the same idea, so we would ride the elevator squished like a can of sardines.

Food:
All of the meals I had for the conference were wonderful and the service was very good. I ate breakfast in the restaurant the last day I was there and it was wonderful as well.

Pool & Fitness:
I did not have a chance to use either of these.

Room rate: Worth every penny.

Overall:
Would I stay at this Hilton again? Absolutely! Would I recommend it to anyone traveling to the area? In a second. I'd say it was a great stay.

Sidebar: I was sick the entire time and for me to give a good review when I'm somewhere away from home, not in my own bed, and feeling awful...you know the stay had to be great!

Use your money for another hotel

from sadiepoosammamish
My husband and I stayed at the Hilton while in town for a conference and I couldn't believe how tiny the rooms were. The TV was literally 2 feet from the foot of the bed and there was only a couple of feet between the bed and walls. We avoided spending any time in the room because it was so small and cramped. The bathrooms were incredibly tiny as well. The only upside to this hotel is its location - it's downtown and right across the street from Pioneer Place, which is a great mall. We paid $119 a night and it was not worth it.

Not worth the price

from washingtoncritique
The room was small with sealed windows. The duvet bedding was too hot at night and the other choice was a thin coverlet. We could hear everyone using the shower in adjacent rooms. My final bill for one night was $203. The breakdown was room, $151, parking $18, phone calls $15, room tax $19. It has a conveniernt location and the staff was very nice.

Good experience

from mmerdock1
Nice hotel, good value for money. Excellent location downtown.

Service was excellent.

Noise in the hotel was disappointing. I could hear housekeeping knocking on all the doors down the hallway. Plumbing was a bit noisey.

Forgot to mention pool - great for family and serice was good there.

Pool was good for families, jacuzzi had no jets, more like warm bath.

Executive Tower weekend

from wyotraveler60
My wife and I just spent three days at the Executive Tower of the Portland Hilton. Our room was very nice, and the hotel staff was very friendly ---- especially the concierge who was on duty Saturday evening. He secured a last-minute reservation at McCormick and Schmick's (on Oak Street) and planned a very enjoyable driving trip along the coast for us.

Some travel tips:
Take the light rail (MAX) from the airport. Exit at Pioneer Square, and walk downhill to the nearest corner. Turn right, and walk 2 blocks. Turn to your left and cross the street ---- you will then be at the main entrance of the executive tower hotel.

For a fun evening, try Wallbanger's ---- turn left when exiting the hotel and walk 3 blocks. On Saturday night, they had a very funny show with "dueling pianos."

Rent a car and drive up the coast from Tillamook (cheese factory) to Astoria. The Blue Heron cheese factory is also in Tillamook if you like brie. We made a lunch out of brie and their homemade french bread. Be sure to go out to Meares Lighthouse. The Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center is about 15 minutes from Astoria after you cross the Columbia River.

Portland also has a very nice zoo, and there is a large mall just around the corner from the hotel. Try to drop by Powell's bookstore.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Was this a Hotel or a Motel??!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed for 2 long, long nights.....the room was very small, about 2 1/2 feet of walking space between the bed and the television. The bathroom was also exceptionally small, and the hot water lever in the sink did not work. I felt that for a Hilton Hotel, and the for price, that I paid I was given the room quality of a Motel.....I was surprised by the accomodations.....they could greatly improve. And I would have stayed in the Executive tower if I was not mislead to beleive that they were quite similar except for their "business traveler" ammenaties (fax, dual line phone, etc.). The best thing about this hotel was the location and the closeness to the MAX trains for local shopping.

Hotwire Executive Tower bargain

from A TripAdvisor Member
We got this room through Hotwire at the amazing daily rate of $62. We also had the very good fortune to find that we had been allocated a room in the upper floor of the Executive Towers block with a good view of the city. The room was well furnished and the bathroom was the largest we have come across in a hotel. The food in the restaurant is of an Italian bent and is very good.

Good choice for value rates online

from A TripAdvisor Member
Purchased our room reservations through Hotwire and got a price of $68/night. Not a bad deal for this hotel, given its location and the room we had. A week before staying I called the hotel (recommended) and made my requests (Exec tower room, king size bed, non smoking room) and 2 of my 3 requests were met upon arrival, without me having to say anything. We didn't get the Executive Tower room but we did get a nice corner room on the 7th floor. I recommend requesting a corner room, both for the view and less noise. The room was nice, clean, and roomy enough for 2 adults. The bathroom was average, but clean and better than portrayed in other reviews here. The Hilton staff was overall friendly and helpful. One word of warning - affordable parking in Portland is EXTREMELY challenging if not impossible. We drove around for an hour looking for better deals around the hotel and there simply are none. At $18 a night for hotel guests, the Hilton's garage can get pretty spendy. You do get in and out privileges however which is nice. I agree with another review that the parking garage's staff is generally rude and unhelpful, so know that going in. The athletic facilities are a ripoff - you can use the pool for free but must pay $10 as a guest to use the exercise machines and sauna. We ate a few times at the 921 Bistro in the hotel and it was fine - nothing extraordinary. It's good to go there during happy hour to take advantage of their food specials (w/ $3 drink purchase) I think this hotel is a decent value if you purchase your reservation via one of the low cost travel sites online. I wouldn't pay full price for the room we had in the main building. If you have to pay full price, make sure you stay in the executive tower.

Check out Max. We were told by a passenger on the flight we took to Portland about the Max. Next time we will forego the rental car for at least part of the time and use the public transportation.
