The hotel facility was very nice but the customer service left a lot to be desired. We had a reservation but there were no rooms when we arrived. The hotel put us up at a nearby hotel and promised us breakfast but didn't deliver on that. The statements didn't arrive as promised and then we were promised a faxed copy but it didn't arrive.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center Portland Lloyd

Good hotel, convenient location

from ral338
I found the hotel to be above average. Large room, with a comfortable bed, good water pressure and temperature in the shower. On the west side a very nice view of the city. Location is very convienent: a half block to the light rail station, and it is in the fareless zone - so trips to/from downtown are free. Service to the airport is a few dollars and takes 25 minutes. (Cab fare - I got in late - was $30.)

It wasn't overpriced to me, but I was on a convention rate. I found the service to be good, except that they forgot to give me the cookie on check-in.

Swell Hotel

from Dondoh
Let me preface this review with the fact that I got a terrific rate through Priceline. You might want to check out (---) to see what kind of rates you might expect to pay...
The lobby was very nice and check-in was professional and friendly. We were given a room on the 9th floor with a nice view and a very comfortable bed. The staff were friendly and attentive.
Lloyd center is a little ways from downtown, but the EXCELLENT light rail system will get you there in a snap. It is FREE(!) and located right outside the hotel.
Portland is a beautiful city.
I hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did. Stay at the doubletree with confidence!

Bait and switch

from cavedwellerwi
Be warned this hotel is in to the bait and switch practice. We booked our deluxe king size bed room over 3 months in advanced. When we got to the hotel we got the free cookies and our room, much to my surprised, the room was the size of a postage stamp and had one queen bed. The clerk did not mentioned the different bed size, room sized etc to us I called the service desk to ask why our 3 month old reservation of the king size room was not fulfilled. The exact same clerk said they had been sold out for 3 weeks. Hmmm, Our reservation was 3 months old. No reply from the clerk on that one. I asked if the bill reflected the downgraded room. She said yes and quoted me it was now $150 a night. I stated that was the price we booked for the king sized room. I was put on hold and then told the queen size and king size was the same price. Does this place even have a king size bed? I felt ripped off and lied to.
I would not reccommend this place due to the fact you are not guaranteed what you reserved 3 months in advance.

Comfortable and convenient, though somewhat pricey

from jasbear
We stayed at this hotel four nights for a convention (the 2005 National Square Dance Convention) which required us to pay the convention-arranged rate of $140, a bit pricey. However, our 11th floor, double queen, non-smoking room (in what we guessed might be a newer section) was spacious, fully equipped with all anemities, everything worked, beds were wonderful, double sinks in the bathroom, our balcony gave us a view of Mt. Hood and other Cascade mountains, the restaurant had a good and varied breakfast buffet, and we were not charged for parking. We traveled as a group from our area and most of our group members (we all made our reservations at the same time) had a similar experience except for one couple who not only (for the same rate) got a room on the 4th floor of the older section; a much smaller room, only one sink in the bathroom, beds not as good - and to add insult to injury, they were charged the $18/day parking rate! So one issue here is that there is random inconsistency in how the hotel treats its guests. We recommend that, if you plan to stay at this hotel, insist on a room in the tower and vigorously protest the parking charge.

Great value and location

Stayed here for 3 nights and would most definitely come back to this hotel without hesitation. Our party arrived to town very early and I was worried we wouldn't be able to check in yet. Upon arrival, we checked into all 3 rooms (at 7am) without a hassle. The front desk staff was very accomodating and when we called for extra towels, we had them in less than 10 minutes.

As others have said, the standard king room is huge and the beds are pillow-top and have a down duvet. I'm picky about beds and this is hands down the most comfortable one I've slept in at a hotel.

The location is great, across the street from a huge mall and a movie theatre. The MAX train is just outside, which provides access to most anything you'd want to do in Portland.

We were even able to get a late check-out as well on our last day.

Overall, this is a full service hotel that is a great value for the money.

should be a four star at least; excellent all the way

We stayed six nights at the doubletree at lloyd center in Portand. We had a premium king room with a balcony and really were pleased with our stay. Our room faced the city; nice view. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was adequate with two lavatories. The bed was comfortable with a down quilt.

This is definitely a full service hotel. The lobby is very large and attractive; hard to believe this is only a 3 star hotel. The staff were very attentive to all of our requests. Two very nice restaurants with good food and service. The margaritas at Eduardo's are great.

Wonderful service, great values if you book wisely.

We just returned from five days in Portland staying at the Doubletree Lloyd Center. It was so conveniently located! We caught the MAX from the airport to right outside the hotel - $1.70 each, rather than $30 or more with a cab! Upon arrival we were checked in with no fuss and presented with two warm, yummy cookies. The staff were exceptional, the room was clean, the bed extremely comfortable. This is not a luxury hotel, but it is very comfortable. We were completely satisfied. We had the room for $80 a night direct from their website. If people are paying too much, perhaps they are not looking for a deal closely enough. I would highly recommend this hotel. Be sure to check out the Pearl District and the wonderful Hawthorne District using the city's exceptional public transport - there's no need to spend a fortune on cabs in Portland.

We will NEVER stay at the Doubletree Lloyd Center again!

When making our reservations, almost a month in advacne, we requested a king size bed. Upon arrival we were given a room with two double beds and were told that they could not guarantee a king bed. Further, parking for hotel guests was $18.00 per day but for anyone off of the street parking was $8.00 a day!!!! The service was average and the food was bad. In short, we were not impressed!

Dimed to Death

from SheWanders
PROS: Good location, great views, oh-so-incredible beds.

CONS: Amenities & services not appropriate for price. Parking is overpriced ($18/night during the week, $9/night on the weekends). Dated bathrooms. No expanded cable TV. Unprofessional staff.

I arrived in the morning for a conference and checked in at lunchtime. When I went to my room, I found a room service tray with smelly food from the previous guest sitting on the floor. Yuck. My room on the 12th floor had beautiful views of the park and the city, but it was a bit noisy due to hoodlums in the park, beeping pedestrian signals, and the MAX trains. This went on all night. The only thing that saved this experience was the bed. The king-sized bed was sooo comfortable, with a pillow-top, down comforter, velveteen quilt, and nice, fluffy pillows. So, if your main concern is just having a comfortable place to sleep, this might be a winner for you. If you expect more, try a different hotel.

OK, but way overpriced...!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Okay friends, I know this review is long but to get my point across here: I was just very aggrivated with the price of this hotel!

.....Okay people---it was kind of hard to rate this hotel when it asked for it here when looking at all the other reviews--(the other reviews here are pretty good), but I have to give it an "Okay, but some problems" rating, due to my particular experience. I stayed at this hotel for one night, during mid-week. I paid $155.00 for the night, and again, this was MID-WEEK! I felt that charging $155.00 during mid-week is was WAY OVERPRICED, for what I got. And not that I care about a continental breakfast, but I was not even given a continental breakfast, nor was I even told that there was one at this hotel. I wasn't planning on eating it anyway, but it would have been nice if I was told that there was one or not, considerig the price I paid for my room. (I think the $155 rate should have been for like a Friday or Saturday night stay, NOT a midweek stay! What do you think? um yeah, uh huh).. (AND the $155 rate didn't include the tax either, when tax was added it was more. Ouch)...
Anyway, this hotel is very nice looking from the outside--has BEAUTIFUL glass elevators that you can see from the outside, (and in), and a very big nice looking Lobby area--perhaps maybe THAT is what I paid for??!! Please don't let this hotel's exterior and interior Lobby area fool you into thinking that the rooms & it's amenities are gonna be like, totally awesome. (Not). I had a corner room. It was very small. The bathroom just had a shower, no bathtub. (I really wanted a hot bathtub to soak in after having such a long day, but instead of asking the front desk to be switched to another room with a tub, I just used the shower--it was so late at night I didn't want to bother gathering up & packing all of my junk and request being moved to another room with a tub, blah blah blah, etc)...

Positives: Upon my check-in, they gave me (yes, free), one of their signature Chocolate Chip cookies. That was a nice gesture. This hotel is also located in an EXCELLENT location for shopping and eating, only 2 footsteps away from everything and there's also free public transportation on the MAX/Lightrail train system--within the downtown area and Lloyd district...(perhaps, maybe that is what I also paid for, in my room rate?) Sounds silly. hmmmm. But I don't know!

NOW....if you want to stay at a really LUXURIOUS hotel that is MUCH CHEAPER (and ten times better) than this one, stay at "The RiverPlace Hotel" that's located on the waterfront in downtown Portland, this hotel is rated as a luxury class 4-Star hotel (or even 5star, maybe?). It has BEAUTIFUL views of the Willamette River Waterfront and City, and the rooms are plush. Along with WONDERFUL bath amenities, complimentary Aveda bath products! too cool.. Nothing cheap here, no cheap-looking bath products, etc.. They also treat you like royalty at this hotel, it is sooooooo nice. I cannot stress to you more!!! And not to mention--some of the rooms at The RiverPlace Hotel are way less expensive and much better than what you get at the Lloyd Center DoubleTrees. Go figure!

The Doubletree hotel at Lloyd Center neeeds to get their act together on rethinking their room rates. You can stay at other fine hotels in the city of Portland and have a great room, & amenities, and not be charged as much as the Doubletree/Lloyd Center charges.
I'm giving this hotel my particular rating simply because of the price, and quality/value of the room. Too overpriced for what you get. If you're going to stay at Lloyd Center's DoubleTree Hotel, make sure you do not get a corner room, or you will get ripped off. I don't know what any of the other rooms at the DoubleTree are like--hopefully you'll get a better price and room--if you choose to stay there. Good luck! But I won't ever stay there again. I'm staying at The RiverPlace Hotel, where you get a much better room, amenities, service, and did I say luxury?--all at a much better price.

Top Local Tips for Portland

Great location Since this hotel is on the max line which is free transportation downtown, and the Lloyd Center Mall across the street, you don't need to drive your car once you have arrived. This hotel has access to some terrific restaurants as well, some within walking distance.

Try Stanford's Stanford's restaurant across the street has great happy hour meals for $2 to $4 from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. A great way to stretch your food budget.

A Laid Back Town It is not hard getting around in this town. Everyone is laid back; traffic is not too bad and people are friendly. There are lots of things to do and great restaurants and it won't cost you an arm and a leg. A beautiful town.
