I actually found your hotel online and had never heard of it before. After my stay in your facility, I feel very comfortable in saying that if I am ever in need of a hotel in the Portland area in the future, I will think of Silver Cloud first.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Clarion Hotel Airport

Room was great!

from sferry
Hotel room was great, decorated very nicely, very clean, breakfast was good. Hotel staff was friendly and answered questions. Mattresses on beds were great!

Great place to stay

from nmnative
We stayed at this hotel because we needed a room on the night we flew into Portland (before heading to the coast for vacation) and on the night before we flew out. We had stayed here before it changed names and we enjoyed our stay. It is so convenient to the airport. We flew in at night and didn't call the hotel until close to 10 p.m. and they sent their shuttle right over. In the morning, the shuttle took us back to the airport to get our rental car. The driver was courteous and very pleasant. We chose a room with a tempurpedic mattress. We got it and we slept like babies. It was so comfortable. The rooms are spacious and clean. You get a fridge, microwave, and the rooms are not small. What I love is that the bathroom is at the front of the room and the beds are kind of further back so you don't hear the hallway noise. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, although she didn't know the area so couldn't provide much information. We got a free newpaper in the morning and breakfast was more than enough. The muffins are excellent. The hotel has 2 computers in their lobby for use by the guests. We didn't use the pool or excercise area. The day we returned from the coast, we got into Portland fairly early. Checking in was no problem. We got our room early and were happy because we were tired. This time we chose the jacuzzi suite and you cannot get tempurpedic mattresses in those rooms. The jucuzzi suites are all on the first floor and the tempurpedic beds are all on the 3rd and 4th floors. The jacuzzi was big enough for 2 people and oh so relaxing. The bed however was a different story. It was the most uncomfortable mattress I've had to sleep on in a long time. Even my husband complained and he never complains about beds. The bedding in the entire hotel is in serious need of updating. We had a sink and microwave and fridge in this room also. The bathrooms are big enough and pretty clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this area. We used the shuttle on the final stay also because we returned our rental car the night before we flew out and they picked us up at the airport and they dropped us off for our flight in the morning. I really cannot recommend any restaurants nearby. Sharis is close, but not that great. There is no restaurant at the hotel. There is a subway close by. We actually drove over to Vancouver, WA and ate at Rib City and it was a very good choice. They had excellent bar -b-que and we left quite full : )

Quiet Hotel with excellent facilities

from Shar-Cookeville-TN
We stayed at the Clarion Airport Hotel for three days at the start of our Oregon/Washington vacation trip. It has very handy access for the Columbia River Gorge, Fort Vancouver, and shopping. Even though it is in the airport vicinity, no plane noise intruded. The room and bathroom were clean, the staff was friendly, and the bed was very comfortable. The complimentary breakfast had a lot of choices: eggs/sausage; waffles; cold cereals; bagels and muffins; yogurt and fruit; juices, milk, coffee, and tea. We did use the indoor jacuzzi and pool. Both were very clean with towels provided. No complaints about this hotel at all. I would stay there again.

We were very pleased

from Erikslady
We stayed at the Clarion from June 28 through July 2, 2007, for a convention. Our room, 404, was a king mini-suite, with a fridge, microwave and sink. There is also a loveseat, a table, and a desk. We had a temperpedic mattress, which we loved. We have two small children (5 and infant), so we also had a roll-away, and a pack-and-play we brought. There was plenty of room to move around, although the table was pushed under the desk and the extra chairs were removed.

Our room was recently remodeled, I believe, because it was beautiful and looked in excellent condition. The bathroom was smaller than many, and the sink was inside the bathroom. That was a bit of a pain for getting ready in the morning, since I had to wait for my husband to shower before I could use the mirror. There is a large mirror with a table under it in the main room, but I couldn't use it because my kids slept in.

The lobby also looked renovated, with couches and a fireplace. There is a dining/breakfast area with comfortable chairs that we also used to eat dinner in the evenings.

Breakfast was an expanded continental, with make-your-own waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit, and hard boiled eggs, along with muffins, cereal, coffee, tea, and juices (apple and orange).

The pool is indoors, which was good as the first few days were cold. There are pool towels provided, which is a nice touch for a family. Someone mixed up the controls for the pool and hottub the first night, so the pool was bathtub warm and the spa was cold, although by the last night they felt normal. The workout room is right off the pool, and the equipment includes a bike, elliptical trainer, and a treadmill that I could see (didn't have a chance to use it).

The front desk staff was friendly, acknowledging us when they couldn't help us immediately. The shuttle is free, just sign up at the front desk. It will take you to the airport and the nearby MAX station.

Shari's is across the parking lot from the hotel. Two lights east of the hotel is 122nd, with all the nearby restaurants. Be sure to go to Burgerville at least once; it's one of the Northwest's best chains.

spacious, clean, lovely but hard bed

from Ryuka
Booked through park and fly .com. The room was spacious and clean. The hotel staff was kind. The breakfast was of large variety. The bathroom was beautiful. This would have been an excellent experience if not for the hard bed. Next to cleanliness, a comfortable bed is an essential to me in a hotel. Replace the beds and this would be near a 3 or 4 star experience.

Good for business travelers, perhaps not for a vacation

from Rebemdee
I think the industry "secret" is true. When you book through a website other than the hotel website, you don't get as good a room. How else to explain putting us across from the elevator for three nights? The "ding" was incessant. We eventually realized we could close the door between the elevator and the hallway and it wouldn't be reopened until morning. That improved our sleep. The room was okay; not stunning but not bad. It is nicely decorated and looks like an older hotel room. The TV remote didn't work well but we were too lazy to complain. The window screen wasn't firmly attached; it gaped on the bottom and the window is rather low. This would be concerning if traveling with younger children. The room has a fridge, sink, and microwave. That's a nice touch to save money on eating out. The restaurants around it are mediocre. It's worth driving elsewhere to eat. If you hang a left on Airport Way you'll get to a Plaid Pantry convenience store and a bar/restaurant that has good sandwiches, as well as fast food.

Pros:
free parking
easy to access from the freeway
free breakfast (not great, but certainly good enough)
free wifi (but VERY SLOW)
two computers with printer by reception (very slow, prone to freezing)
Temperpedic matress (I hated it, my husband loved it. It's a soft, squishy, memory foam thing)
bathroom nicely redone, has live bamboo, a nice touch
free newspapers
the lobby is modern and fresh, and I think there's refreshments served in the evening but we weren't ever there for it
I overheard there is a free shuttle

Cons:
heating/AC is old and loud
older rooms
young staff that are pleasant but not terribly knowledgeable
small bathroom
scratchy sheets and towels
loud location
no gas station nearby

I would stay there again, but only for business travel. We were house hunting so it was easy to travel from that point and it was close to the airport. The amenities are worth some of the drawbacks, especially the computer access. That saved our hides when we needed to restart our house hunt at the last minute.

Good Value/Location

from Butlersplace
Call Direct for better rate. They have Park and Fly Package which was cheaper than if I had to pay the hotel paking upon return. The complimentary breakfast was a great value and its next to the Shilo Inn which has a restaraunt if needed.

Clean, Newly Renovated, Great Hidden Bargain

from mauikristin
We stayed for 3 nights here, and were pleasantly surprised. We got a great rate, and were delighted to find that the hotel had been recently renovated. Tastefully decorated, beautiful bathroom basins with live bamboo in them! Room was oversized and spacious, all rooms face the lake which is beautiful. Complimentary breakfast is actually quite nice, workout room is small but has all new equipment. Best advice I can give is if you are staying for more than 2 nights, request a room with the tempurpedic bed. I believe they said all the rooms on the 4th floor have them and some on the 3rd floor. The rooms without the tempurpedic beds have older, lumpy beds. But all in all, I'd stay here again. Rooms come with mini fridge and microwave, and pay per view movies. It was very easy to drive to downtown portland in 10-15 minutes. This hotel is a hidden find.

Great Place to stay at PDX

from travelbanana
The price was right, great location, staff very friendly and helpful.
Room was clean. Beds were lumpy and not made very well, but that was about the only negative to this hotel. The location is very close to the airport but you hear very little air traffic. The breakfast was well stocked and clean. The usual continental breakfast with waffles, juice, muffins, donuts, cereal, fruits. Nice variety.. The pool area was not very clean but that was because it opens to the outside to a nice deck and the wind blows leaves, dirt, etc in. They also have a decent work out room with a treadmill.
The airport shuttle is great and available in about 15 miutes at the most. They have a park and stay package too which seemed reasonably piced. Shari's is within walking distance and there was 24 hour tea and coffee in the lobby. I would stay here next time I am in the Portland area.

Clearly a Cut Above

from motherjanegoose
The Clarion PDX is a wonderful hotel that was formerly a White Sands??? a chain I am not familiar with.
Anyway, this location is perfect for the airport.
The rooms are spacious and new. The facility backs up to a lake, so it is quieter than most. The staff was very friendly and the lobby is inviting. A great choice for business! I am a Hilton Gold Honors but this hotel made me rethink the Choice line of hotels...super!
