They Hate US Servicemen Here
No place to spend your money. Yesterday was Memorial Day. Son Travis had to drive back to his base in Kansas in order to be on duty on Tuesday. He got almost to Norman when his truck broke. He called me. It was late and he was four hours away, not much way for me to help. I remembered seeing signs in Oklahoma about calling *55 on a cell phone for assistance, so I told him to do that. He did, and was shortly sent a wrecker that towed him into Norman. Within sight of where the wrecker took his truck were two hotels. One was the Thunderbird Lodge, and rooms were about $35. The other was a much nicer place, but rooms were about $80. Now, it is 11:00 at night, and he has to get up and get going in the morning, so the extra amenities of the nicer place are of no use to him. He went to the Thunderbird and tried to get a room. Well, they wouldn't let him have one. Seems he is under 21 and the clerk insisted on a $250 deposit for the room, because teen-agers are so destructive. Travis didn't have enough room on his debit card to cover it, so he called me. I offered to give the clerk my credit card number and guarantee the deposit and the rent. (I have done this before to rescue my older son.) Idiot clerk insisted that I fax my credit card and a letter of authorization. Like I have a fax machine available to me at 11 PM. Idiot clerk wouldn't even talk to me on the phone. She refused and insisted that Travis relay the information to me. My response to the clerk, through Travis, was rude and loud. I hope she heard it. He left and went to the other place. No problems. He got up this morning, bought the pulley and installed it. Now, he still owed the tow bill and didn't have the money to cover it. So, he called me and I gave the tow service my credit card information over the phone, just as I would have done with the Thunderbird Lodge. A helluva way to treat an American soldier trying to get back to base and having a hard time. The woman at the Thunderbird Lodge was rude and didn't care an ounce about helping Travis out, and she knew he was a soldier. Come to think of it, nowadays a lot of hotels and motels are owned by folks who come from countries very unfriendly to the USA. Maybe that has something to do with it. These people deserve no one's business. My name is David Nunn and I live in Texas.
