It was a very nice stay for the weekend for me and my boyfriend (we were there for his birthday). I purchased the "romance package" and it was fabulous. The room had a jacuzzi and we loved it and used it all weekend. The hotel staff was very cordial and friendly. It was a great weekend retreat.

I had just returned that morning from a trip to Vegas and had stayed out all night before flying back to Indianapolis. I arrived later in Cincinnati and had a party to attend that evening. I was so tired, when I laid down in the bed at the Hilton, it was like laying on a pile of feathers. Absolutely WONDERFUL!! Nicest hotel bed I have ever had and I slept soundly all night. Excellent service!
Our first visit was magical

I have stayed at the Cincinnati Netherlands hotel 3 times. Our first visit was magical. My husband and I were upgraded to a deluxe room (not sure why) and we were instantly spoiled and sold on the hotel. Based on that experience my daughter and I planned a get-away weekend and were put in a dismal corner room with peeling wallpaper, no hot water, dirty carpet, missing light bulbs, and other problems. After expressing my displeasure to the manager, we received a one night's stay gift certificate. My husband and I used it later in the year when were in Cincinnati and had a better experience although still nothing like the first one.
Hotel lacks security

Although the hotel itself was beautiful and most of the employees were very friendly, we checked in on a Saturday afternoon, and upon returning to our room late Saturday night, we found a man sleeping in our bed. After he was removed, and it was found that his room card worked in our door, we asked for clean bed linens, and HAD TO CHANGE THE BED OURSELVES! As if this is not shocking enough, the way the daytime manager handled the situation was worse. She kept saying that she didn't know how something like that could have happened, and that we should have talked to the night manager because she knew nothing of this. Finally she said (not nicely), " what exactly are you asking me to do for you, your room is paid for." Disappointed by her attitude, my husband and I left. I feel as though maybe those Hilton girls should spent a little less on make-up and clothes, and more on hotel security!!

i thought the hotel was great. the staff was friendly, the beds were comfortable, the hotel was as clean as could be, it was connected to an OK mall, and it was in the middle of everything. the price for valet was like $36 a day! the bathrooms could have been bigger, but everything else was great. would stay here again anytime.

An exquisite old hotel

from LAPhil13
This is an old hotel, and yes, the rooms are small. It is the ambience of the entire hotel that makes it worth coming to, but not for people who think modern/contemporary is king. Those people should go elsewhere. Those that want to revel in an old hotel built in the era that gave us the Empire State Building, this is an excellent choice. Service was fine during our stay.

Omni, Very Nice

from A TripAdvisor Member
My mother and I stayed at the Hilton in January, 2005 for a George Strait concert. We had no problems at this hotel. The room was very spacious with very comfortable beds. The desk clerks were very nice and helpful. Our room was also very clean. I would stay again if we I had something in Cincinnati.

A good hotel

from Jerri_Blank
Had a corner room on the top floor. So I had a view of the south (KY/Ohio River) and the west. The room was very roomy, more than others in the hotel from what I saw. I had a big comfortable bed. Bathroom was very nice...small...but nice fixtures and a good shower.
The only thing I would change about the room would be the couch and chairs, those were past their prime.

Hotel has a nice restaurant/bar, and a full gym - which is so great compared to thee usual hotel that just has a couple broken cardio machines. This has lots of options.
Valet parking only for $18, yes it's a lot. There are garages nearby too though.
I'd definitely stay again. Staff was very nice too.

All out great!

My husband and I stayed there the weekend of 2/26/05 for our anniversary. We read some bad reviews and actually thought twice-HOWEVER-those people that gave bad reviews are crazy or have the wrong hotel...The room and bathroom were roomy and very beautiful...We didnt hear not one noise the whole time we were there-great river view.We ordered room service-great food-nice server. The desk and valet people couldnt have been nicer. We plan on staying there a few times a year just because. It was a wonderful hotel and I will recomend it to all my friends. The 18$ for valet was the only part I wasnt too happy about.

small room, pay for parking

from A TripAdvisor Member
The rooms are very small and I wasn't aware that to park you have to pay $18 a day for valet or $15 a day to park across the street at the parking garage. The health club was in the basement and is sort of a community style not just for hotel. For the money I would stay somewhere else. My stay was for 2 days Feb. 17-18.

Troubled start

from A TripAdvisor Member
I travelled by train to Cincinnatti for a conference in March 2004 and when I arrived they had given away my reserved room. My arrival was delayed due to a derailment on the track; but I phoned from the train to confirm my reservation and to assure the hotel personnel that I would be arriving late.
I was scheduled to take a class within the hour of my eventual arrival, but could not do so because I had no accommodations. The breakfast I ordered through room service while I was in the hospitality suite was awful; needless to say, it did not stay down. Later in the day, I was moved to a lovely suite, but had to be moved again because the internet service to the room was on the blitz. After numerous tries, they concluded that it could not be repaired and I was moved to another room, yet again. Everything was okay after that.
I would like say that the repair man was most helpful and considerate, even more so than the concierge et al.

Terribile service, unimformed personel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Terrible service, uniformed personnel, unavailable management, charged for services not used. I had trouble from the 800 Hilton operator who inverted the phone numbers three times to the booking personal who could not simple answer questions about the facility to the accounts manager for fees charged for services not rendered. Stay at your own risk and only pay cash.

What a gem!

from brooksz
My husband and I styed here in August, 2004 for two nights. The time here could not have been any nicer. The room was on the smaller side but it was more than adequate for our needs...and at less than $100/night with no advance reservation! The room and bathroom were very clean. The bathroom had been recently redone and was lovely. We also had drinks in the Art Deco bar....it was the highlight of our short visit. On Saturday night they have live Jazz music. Order a cheese and fruit tray even though it isn't on the menu. It was huge! The staff was very helpful from the doorman to the front desk staff. All in all a wonderful stay!

Fabulous for Business Travelers

from A TripAdvisor Member
I travel to Cincinnati on business quite regularly and always stay at the Netherland. The staff is quite attentive and friendly and it is such a historic place to stay.

Most of the rooms are large and beautiful, but a few are small. If room size is important to you, try to book a corner room, handicapped room or room on the Hilton Honors floor.

With your room key, you can access the Carew Tower health club - complete with Cardio equipment, weights, etc. Much better than the typical workout room.

When I travel on business, I usually recieve free breakfast coupons. Hilton lets you use these to get a quick carryout breakfast to bring with you, rather than requiring you to dine in their dining room Great idea.

The only downside is that the Hilton does large meetings and conventions and the hotel can feel a little crowded/rowdy (depending on the group hosting the convention). And the elevators can be slow...but these items are negligable in comparison to everything else.

Top Local Tips for Cincinnati

Stay in Cincinnati, party in Newport If you like beer, you can't skip Haufbrau Haus. If you like a party atmosphere, Newport was a great place after dark.

Downtown Cincinnati Dont go. There is nothing there. Downtown Cincy is dying.

used book store near netherland plaza hotel a few blocks from the netherland plaza hotel is a stupendously good used book store - located on 4th street, i think. ask the concierge at the hotel, and they'll draw you a map. if you're in cincinnati during the week, this is definitely worth a detour.
