What a disappointment! Checked in on a Sunday night,
after 7pm, with kids. Our 2 room suite was in incredibly shabby condition. Bathroom was not even cleaned, sink disgusting, w/ dirty, stained towels left on vanity. Furniture was old, worn & dirty, cat on or something on so-called oversized sitting chair in living room. They did move us to another room, but
it took 25 minutes, & 3 calls to front desk for them to have a key brought up for a new room. Pitiful!
The 2nd room had a cleaner bathroom but wallpaper coming off in every room, numberous tiles off in this bathroom & a very dirty microwave in kitchen.
The window in our bedroom whistled loudly all night due to the wind, we had to have it cracked, but there were no screens on any windows, not safe with kids!! Parking was next door in a not so convenient ramp, cannot access with luggage cart, because of the stairs. I went to the car a few times by myself & was
hassled by street people in alley. Don't recommend this place at all.

Not up to potential

It was just okay. It had some good points. Nice sized room for a good price. A full kitchen with microwave, oven and stove, and refrigerator, it was a nice touch. The layout of the building and the location was nice. Beautiful view from my room. Great resataurants, nice park, and a mixture of modern skyscrapers to buildings and churches as old as the mid 1800's to everything in between, make it an interesting eclectic neighborhood. Sadly, room service and the hotel restaurant only carried sandwiches. The staff acted like they were completely new to customer service, and not really knowing how to run a hotel, though they seemed to be trying. The work out room felt way too frigid to stay in there. No pay per view which would have been nice. Overall,it needed more ammenities across the board. The hotel itself was kind of boring.
It's definitely not the nicest hotel for your money in downtown Cincinnati, but felt it was in one of the nicest locations in downtown Cincinnati. If you do happen to stay there for the night, be sure to check out some of the restaurants in the neighborhood. There were quiet a few great diverse eats all within a 2 block radius.

Nice place

Stayed 3 nights at the Garfield Suites -in Cincinnati. We paid $102 not knowing what to expect, but it came recommended by a friend and because of it's proximity to the Aronoff theater. We came for a musical and a motorcycle show in the convention center- and wanted to be within walking distance to the downtown shopping and the better restaurants..

The room was definitely big. Obviously, this was a former condominium building. Furnishings were modern and plentiful and the place was very clean. The kitchen cabinets were somewhat dated as was the chandelier over the dining table(circa 1988?) but we weren't expecting a full kitchen with a dining room anyway. Everything was clean. The water pressure was excellent. I noticed that there is a hot-water heater in the bedroom closet... maybe that's why the pressure is so good... best shower I've taken in a hotel ever!

Our room was on the 14th floor and had a balcony overlooking a park with a great view of the city and the surrounding hills. It was unseasonbly warm, so we left the sliding doors to our patio open, but had to close them in the middle of the night because of revelry in the park beneath us. There were young people singing, laughing and playing guitar until well after dark Saturday.

The atmosphere was warm and friendly--the breakfast was good and very cheap! We paid less than $5 for a full, cooked to order breakfast every day- the Omelettes were huge... bacon was thick and crisp.... wonderfully thick, buttered sourdough bread toast sprinkled with powdered sugar- the breakfasts were delicious--nice big windows at street level for very fun people watching in the mornings! There was a live band on the Saturday night when we were there-electic,blues style - a bit loud, but a friendly bartender got us off to a great start before dinner.

The restaurant has a Starbucks coffee bar next to the cocktail bar... no break on price there however, (expect to pay as much for the coffee, if you want a cappuccino, as you do for the breakfast)

Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay in a big room in a lovely location.

Enjoy. Wonderful surpise.

I've stayed at the Garfield several time on business trips and always had good service, a nice room (apartment), and it's in a great location. I highly recommend this hotel to all.

The Garfield Suites Hotel Cincinnati - 2005

from jthompson
I had to be in Cincinnati on business and it was recommended by a peer because of it's location in downtown near our home office.

The room was very spacious, with a balcony and a great view of downtown. My room has a 35" TV (in the living room) and a 20" in the bedroom! It even has a small 5" TV in the bathroom. Being a news junkie, TV's are important and the cable selection was good.

The suite is clean, quiet and the hi-speed was fast and FREE. I enjoyed having the large dining table to spread out my evening's work.

I also enjoyed the gym which is huge and had full nautilus.

I understand that this used to be an apartment building and it is obvious since I've never stayed in a hotel that has A WALKIN CLOSET!

Kudos to the staff - they were very accommodating and friendly, and the breakfast buffet was plentiful and hot. Again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Grimy rooms, grumpy staff, verrrrry slow elevator

from redchief
My husband and I stayed here in September 2004 when we were in town for my cousin's wedding at The Cincinnati Club just down the block. The location for us was fantastic, and our whole extended family stayed in the hotel, and the rooms were enormous, but everything beyond that was less than stellar. The hotel is in tremendous need of an update.... it seems like you've been stuck in an upscale apartment building circa 1978. Our "room" (which was really a livingroom, bedroom and kitchenette) was huge, but poorly decorated and not very clean. All of the public areas were grimy. The desk staff was grumpy and slow (though the valet was wonderful and charming) and acted like anything you asked of them was a tremendous inconvenience. The elevator was absurdly slow, we ended up adding an extra five or ten minutes to each excursion out of our rooms. Great location, could be a nice hotel, but desperately needs a facelift and new management.

Wow! What a surprise this was!

Came in to Cincinnati on a spur of the moment decision to go to a Cincinnati Reds game (a friend had given us great tickets)...

Stumbled across the hotel while looking for parking. Not being familiar, we asked to see a room before checking in. Wow! What a surprise. The room was the largest hotel room we've ever stayed in. ( I think that this is an apartment/condo building that has been converted to a hotel)

Nice, quaint little bar with pool table--super nice bartender.

It was nice to have the kitchen, (big refrigerator-for our party supplies) and separate living room/dining area to play cards. We even had a TV in the bathroom! Pretty cool place... great location. Not the Ritz Carlton but, very nice and clean. Big bang for the buck.

Highly recommended! This is one of those "pleasant surprises" you wander across every blue moon.

Poor Room Quality

from A TripAdvisor Member
After a long day in Cincinnati, my boyfriend and I were anxiously ready to check-in to our hotel room. Although we checked in very late, I did not expect the staff at the hotel to be as rude and slow as they were. It took 20 minutes to check in and there was no one else in the hotel lobby. The manager on duty was very rude when we inquired about where to park since the valet parking was closed. We had confirmed earlier in the day that our room had a balcony, when we got to our room, there was no balcony. There was also a very strong smoking smell in our room when we requested a non smoking room. After taking a shower, I noticed there was 2 inches of standing water on the bathroom floor. I immediately called the front desk and they said they would send someone up right away. At 2 am we called back to the front desk and told them to forget about it. The sink in our bathroom also did not work, the drain was broken. Checkout took 2 times longer than check in. Overall the hotel and room would have been fine had we not had the problems we did. It was even more disturbing because the hotel staff didn't seem to care!

t arrive too late...

from sdnwildcat
...if you want to get the room you reserved. We reserved a non-smoking, 2 bedroom suite several months in advance and indicated at that time that we would not be arriving until around 9:00 p.m. When we arrived, we were given a smoking room which had clearly been smoked in many, many times. A call to the front desk yielded no relief whatsoever. We were told that the hotel was booked and that there were no more non-smoking rooms. We were further told that the "non-smoking" room we had reserved months in advance had apparently been given to someone who had come in off of the street. When we explained that one of our children had respiratory allergies that did not react well to smoke, they sent someone up with a can of air freshener, but offered no apologies, discounts, or anything else to rectify their mistake. For those travelling with families, the room was a decent value, but the problem we encountered (and management's failure to acknowledge it) would make us think twice before staying at this hotel again.

Oh my goodness!!!!!!

Top Local Tips for Cincinnati

The Pub at Crestview Hills (across the river in Kentucky) It was GREAT! I look forward to our next trip there. Cafe Martin located in the Garfield Suites Hotel was very good also as well as the Nicholsons Pub on Walnut Street. And, of course, everyone has to try the Skyline Chili! Dining was a pleasure everywhere we went.

Metro If you come from the UK and like me dont fancy driving then leave to the Metro. Bus fares $1.50. Good service and helpful staff {drivers}

Great Italian Restaurant in Cincinnati Like something out of the "Godfather" movie, I enjoyed a fantastic Italian dinner at Scotti's.
