If you have to travel to Jacksonville, NC Don't expect much class in Jacksonville, NC. It is a marine town and the energy of the place is charged with recruits driving too fast and recklessly with stereos blaring. Every restaurant in town is packed and loud on weekends, especially payday weekends and when troops return from deployment. Chain hotels often have young recruits with multiple women coming in and out of rooms all night long. Recruits will run up and down hotel hallways and hotel staff seldom can keep up with the rowdy behavior. Jacksonville has many tatoo parlors and gentlemen's clubs. I feel sorry for people that actually have to live there. Serenity is far from this town.

You will need a car in Jacksonville. It is too dangerous to cross Western Blvd., the main drag, on foot. It resembles a drag strip with so many young drivers in huge, high powered SUV's and pickup trucks racing down the highway. We were afraid driving in our large rental sedan. Be prepared to bring or rent a car or to take a taxi around town.
