One of my favorites!

I travel all the time for business and am a very picky person when it comes to hotels. This hotel definitely met and exceeded all of my expectations. The appointments, cleanliness, staff, amenities, and rooms were all absolutely wonderful. I can't wait for my next trip to Charlotte....just to stay at this hotel. Small details like the cordless phones in the room, clean and comfortable bed, nice shower, cool window shades, furniture, and light fixtures really impressed me.

This is an excellent hotel. From the service (eager to please) to the immaculate room with a beautiful view, our quick stay in Charlotte was a treat. Our SPG status was noted at check-in and we were upgraded to a grand deluxe room. I asked where I could pick up some gauze since my wife and had just had surgery, and the hotel provided a makeshift first aid kit worth of medical materials. We have a small dog and he was provided with silver bowls and a Heavenly Dog Bed. We slept very well. Breakfast was an exceptional value, with a buffet offering interesting cheeses and breads and a wide variety of courses. In Charlotte, we will only stay at the Westin.

Loved the decor!

I loved the decor in the room and of course, the bed was fantastic. The shower was a bit strange, though. There was no blind and the window was floor to ceiling right in the shower. I ended up showering in the dark, but wonder if I still gave the stopped traffic a show.

Room was great, but they charge extra for just about EVERYTHING!

The room and the views were lovely, as were the staff. We just could not believe that after paying $115 a night for the room, it was an extra $5 each time we wanted to go to the pool and the fitness center (and an extra $10 for the parking!). With the cost of the room, we believe the amenities should be free! None of this information was posted on their website!

Just returned from a two-night stay at the Westin Charlotte. GREAT value for the $, especially if you purchase a package deal through one of the discount sites. Be prepared to take a taxi from the airport ($15.00); the hotel doesn't offer an airport shuttle. Had a 12th floor corner room with views of the new Convention Center and the Bank of America Stadium. My room was large by any standards; fully equipped with amenities; and the "heavenly" king-sized bed was as comfortable as it gets. The bathroom - which was very nice - included a double shower head. The service bordered on outstanding at every point. The staff absolutely bends over backwards to make your stay an enjoyable one. Centrally located with access to old-fashioned trolleys on the second level of the hotel, which, for a dollar, bring you to the South End, where you'll want to shop (check out Price Chicken Coop's fried chicken, which was highlighted on the Food Network). Be sure to ask about the 2-hour city tour, which isn't particularly well marketed, but leaves twice a day from the hotel (except Sundays), and costs $25.00. Our guide was terrific, and stopped at both Duke Mansion and Reid's Fine Foods, a great place to pick up food gifts. It's an up and coming city; have a wonderful time.

We stayed at the Westin for a week while attending a convention. The room was very clean with luxurious bedding. The housekeeping staff was extremely courteous and provided clean rooms in a timely manner. Embers was a treat, especially for the price. The crab fritters are out of this world.

Nice Hotel

We stayed at the Westin for 2 nights in early November. Valet is excellent, (self- parking in garage is not good), check-in was quick.

We had a corner room with windows on 2 sides and views of the city. Nice furnishings, but our rooms seemed a little small (but there are a lot smaller out there!). Maybe it seemed a little tight in there because of all the furniture. We didn't eat there, but the bars and restaurants always seemed full.

The location is very convenient to the interestate. We went to the Bobcats' inaugural game and went to the Southmoor Park mall and Carolina Place mall.

Would definitely stay here again!

Great rooms, shady service

Of course, the new Westin is absolutely beautiful - rooms are spacious and clean with lovely views of the city.

However, unlike some of the reviewers here, the front desk staff treated me and my guest with an upturned nose, as if we didn't belong there. Even got that kind of attitude from some of the guests! (One guest saw us coming towards the elevator and closed the door in our faces!)

Honestly, as a young black female (with a white male guest), that kind of treatment really sticks out in your mind.

I've had nicer times at the AmeriSuites and Hampton Inn in Charlotte - rooms are large and surprisngly immaculate, service is friendlier, free continental breakfast, and the Hampton Inn has a computer you can use for free!

Only stayed one night, but the room and "heavenly bed" were fabulous, the front desk staff accomodating and the location perfect. Didn't eat there but the coffee was great. Use Hotwire.com for a great rate.

Top Local Tips for Charlotte

Blue Cafe and Restaurant A wonderful restaurant located in the center of Charlotte. Easy walking distance from all the big hotels. A diverse Mediteranean menu including Italian, French, Moroccan, and Greek influences. We tried the Wild Boar (amazing) with huckleberries, Beef Tenderloin (melt in your mouth) and signature fish dish. Excellent wine list and a fanciful martini menu. We had two great meals here during two separate trips. Banana cheesecake was incredible but small. Service was a little slow one night.

things to do downtown We ate at Mert's a couple times for some Southern cooking and it was pretty good. food - I'd recommend stopping by if you want to try some southern cooking. I tried the Salmon cakes which were great and the blackened pork chops which the staff highly recommends - I thought they were ok and wouldn't recommend them. The green beans were really good and the mac and cheese was average -- somewhere I read they were the best in the city which I find hard to believe. My wife had the jambalaya and loved it and we both really liked the cornbread. Overall I'd recommend eating at Mert's the food is good and the prices are reasonable too. Staff is really friendly and quick too. I took my 4 yr old son to the Discovery Place and he loved the play area there. We also visited the Imaginon which is basically a public library for children - very colorful and has a theater and place for kids to dress up in different outfits.

Restaurants Do not believe anyone that says The Ranch House is a good restaurant. There are many in the downtown area, and some are cheaper. Also, learn the Panther growl, especially if there is a game. I never quite conquered it, but we had a lot of fun with other guests on the elevator, etc. even if I did sound like I was clearing my throat. At least my sweet baby had it down good. Try the meatball sandwich at Fuel across the street. We got up too late for an affordable buffet (it had converted to the $24 brunch), so we had a spicy breakfast outdoors in a park-like setting. Charlotte is a beautiful city that maintains greenery and water. and it truly improves the quality of life...
