Nice Hotel... quick tip: signup for preferred guest status on website, for free, and you get perks like free newspaper and drinks in morning, delivered to your room, robes, and turndown twice a day.

The hotel is in the center of the business district, which is nice. Tons, of great restaurants around the area. However most of the shops in the business district have short hours, they close early and our often not open on the weekends.

Some of the room features are out of date, like the bathroom, window views, etc...

This hotel is worth the visit, if you want a luxury hotel but can get it at a discounted price, not worth the full price.

Not the best experience

When I checked into the Omni, the staff was friendly enough. The room was a disappointment, extremely small for the money. The town car driver was extremely rude and threatened to take advantage of me if I ended up drinking too much while I was out. Needless to say I called a city cab to ensure I got back to the hotel safely. They really should screen their drivers more carefully, that way you're not terrified the entire time you're in the car. And for a 1.5 mile distance, $18 was a bit pricey. I reccommend calling a cab. The only reason I didn't walk is because I *thought* I would be safer taking a town car. Obviously not. The hotel didn't have an ATM, you had to go down to the mall to get one. No one was helpful with directions to anything either. The room service staff was friendly, but the food wasn't the greatest. Over all this hotel was a bit of a disappointment. I wouldn't reccommend it. I'd go with the Westin if I were you.

Enjoyed their Romance Package

My husband and I stayed in a Junior Suite at the Omni ~ taking advantage of one of their romance packages. When we arrived in our suite there were lovely chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting for us. The room was very comfortable. The staff was excellent in helping us make reservations for dinner. I would definately return.

I recently used Priceline to get a 4 star hotel in Charlotte,NC and I was given the Omni. At first glance its an impressive hotel with a connecting mall, that's a plus for visitors. But the rooms were less than impressive. This hotel received the AAA 4 Diamond award and I don't know why. I had a Jr. Suite with 2 double beds. We pulled the curtains back and found an empty capri sun container on the window sill. the love seat and chair in the room were dirty and showed signs of wear and tear. Aren't these 4 star hotels supposed to inspect their furniture and be sure that all rooms meet the 4 star expectations? Well, needless to say my husband and I asked to be moved and we got a much cleaner room on a higher floor. Interestingly, our first room was on the 3rd floor and when we asked the manager for a new room he asked if we wanted a higher floor, as if the higher floor had nicer rooms. I don't know the hotel business, but i guess they fill the hotel from top to the bottom and the rooms on the lower floor get used much more. Still no excuse for a 4-star, 4 diamond hotel. The new room was cleaner and actually smelled cleaner. But all-in-all the hotel should be a 3 or 3 1/2 not a 4. I would never pay full price to stay there.

Overrated

This hotel is not a 5 star hotel. The only thing of value is the downtown location. There is a $10/night and $250 deposit for internet access, no vending machines whatsoever and a blah room that is small and disappointing. Couple this with the requirement to use your room key on and off the elevator, no gift shop, and an air unit that blows luke warm air and you have one overpriced, over-rated hotel.

Really unhappy with the service here....

I'm not a moaner and am what you would call an "easy guest"

First thing -

Bellman 1 takes baggage from cab = tip
Bellman 2 delivers luggage an hour later = tip

Room was messy with a huge red stain on the carpet. Grouting in bath was dirty.

Why oh why put a guy on crutches (temporarily disabled) so far from the elevator?

We had room service each night - very polite staff, however, to come to the room with one set of cutlery between two people seemed pretty dim on someones part. Also another night forgetting drinks.

My wife and I went to the bar in the lobby to meet business associates and I have to say the bar tender was a most unhappy looking character we felt uncomfortable.

THEN! We organized with the front desk the day before to have our baggage picked up from the room (I can't walk let alone carry stuff) early to take us to be picked up by a Town Car - NOT! One guy was working his tail off at the Bellstand (nice guy) another was loafing around smokin' and spittin' outside.

Our Town Car driver was nice enough to not charge us waiting time - we were an hour late despite the "desk" request.....

Get it together the Ritz Carlton is on the way.

Politest person award - the Securitas graveyard guard....

US Airways - why sit someone with a handicap at the very last seat of the 'plane?????

My wife and I stayed two nights at the Omni Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. We drove four hours to see the Sugar Water Fesitival (music concert) at the Verison Wireless Ampitheater. I booked two nights hotel stay via one of the most popular internet hotel booking sites. I submitted a bid for rooms at Four Star hotels in the downtown area. I ended up booked at the Omni. Well, that would seem a score, but the Omni is full of disappointments. First, the room (a room with king bed) was small and cramped. The bed comforter was flat and had beading on the underside. The sheets were thin and barely adequate. The bathroom was dark and dreary (although it was clean). There was low water pressure in the shower and the shower head could not be adjusted.
The bottom line is that the Omni hotel in a chic downtown area in a thriving city should be an experience in luxury. This hotel makes you feel like you are staying at any hotel near a highway exit.

4 star - No Way !

This is simply the worst supposedly 4 star Hotel, I have ever stayed in.
1/ We checked in mid-afternoon, once person on duty at check-in and a line like Disney World.
2/ The elevators take forever, be prepared for a long wait here also.
3/ Rooms are large, we were on the 15th floor. Bedside lamp didn't work, pulled out nightstand to check it was plugged in (it was) and was totally disgusted with what I found. Clearly housekeeping had not cleaned behind the nightstand since the hotel was built, there were used condoms, cigarette stubs (in a non-smoking room) and other trash.
4/ The bed linen (pillows) had holes in and the pillows were lumpy foam and impossible to sleep on.
5/ On having breakfast, the lady who was cleaning down the tables used the same cloth to wipe the tables, seats and then the flatware !!!!
6/ Front desk staff advised us there were no shops in the vicinity, yet a big shopping mall is directly attached to the hotel via walkways !
7/ Sound insulation is non-existent between the rooms. We could hear every word spoken in the next room, which kept us awake until I called the Front Desk and then woke us up again at 6.30am.
8/ After a long flight we were awoken on the first night by the alarm clock at 5am, surely housekeeping should always ensure the clock is turned off !?
9/ On check out there was a line longer than on check in, I tried calling the front desk and it was constantly busy. As they had an imprint of my credit card, I simply left, or I would have missed my flight.
All in all, this was THE worst stay in a four star hotel ever. They don't even warrant a two star rating. Take my advice, stay at The Westin and avoid this hotel at all costs.

Loved the Omni

This was one of the nicest hotels i have ever stayed in. I was in room 1411, which was the highest floor for that section of the building (as the roof is angled downwards). Therefore, i had a beautifully angled ceiling, which made my room seem twice as big as it actually was. The bed was amazing, an ultra-soft king size with no less than six feather pillows. A beautiful armoire held the TV, while a nice glass table held my laptop. The bathroom was very organized. Since i was at a conference most of the time i was there, i was gone during the day. Upon returning to my room in the evening, all of the linens were changed, fresh towels had been delivered, and the floor had been emaculately vacuumed. I never once had a problem with housekeeping. The staff was attentive to my every request, although I ordered room service at 2am on a Sunday night, ordering simply a piece of cheesecake and a glass of water, which took more than a half an hour to deliver. All in all, this stay was one of the best i've had in a very long time.

Front desk excellent, rest of hotel suspicious

Stayed for 1 night in March 2003. Since we booked our trip on priceline for cheap, did not expect nice treatment but the front desk staff were very nice and upgraded us to a large high floor room. However, the bed was horribly made--the sheets must have been put in there while all wet, so it was just a collection of wrinkles--yuck! Housekeeping changed the sheets, and we were able to spend an otherwise enjoyable evening in Charlotte (the hotel fits the definistion of "centrally located" since it's on the intersection of the 2 main streets.)

Morning avoke to what seemed like drilling through my head. Looked like the room right next to ours was being renovated. Went to front desk to complain and their response was: we are unaware of any construction work but we believe you so here's free breakfast for 2. We sad thanks, and had the breakfast (can't say we liked the restaurant and the service was super slow given that only 2 tables were taken; looks like frequent visitors know better than to eat there). On the way back the front desk person said that indeed we were right that there was some work going on. We were happy to leave.

Bottom line: staff outside of front desk should get their act together! It is not a 4-star hotel until then.

Top Local Tips for Charlotte

Check it out There are plenty of local restaurants if you choose not to dine a the hotel and they fit all budgets. We went to Zink and had the be pork chops! (I have never ordered pork chops out and was very hesitant...I'm glad I stepped out). There also appears to be quite a bit of nightlife in the area, plenty of options, but the hotel lobby actually seemed like a cool place to relax, hear music, and watch a game. Also...in the mood for some good soul food....to the rear of the hotel and down a few blocks, check out Mercks (not sure if I spelled that right). The place has character and the food is terrific too!

Great Nearby Latin Restaurant La Torre's Latin-inspired restaurant is just a few blocks away. It has a unique menu and was delicious. You can get a $25 gift certificate on Restaurant.com for $10. Service was a bit slow - the place is pretty small but it was busy with some large tables. Part of the ceiling is glass block - the better to show off the shadows of dancers upstairs who were apparently learning the tango!
