My fiance and myself and another friend had made reservations for the Algonquin Motel, upon arrival the owners did not remember talking to us and reserving a room, in the morning proceeded to take a shower and it filled with water and did not drain, we actually tried to stay another nite due to the fact this particular weekend there were no availabilities nearby, the owner was rude and not nice in anyway so we went to another establishment in speculator to finish out our weekend of snowmobiling. I would definitely not recommend this Motel to anyone. |

| Very quaint, old-style motel. Good value |

My wife and I stumbled on the Alconquin Motel after finding our favorite choice in Speculator closed late one night. The owners live on the premises and answered the door immediately. There was a hand-written sign on the outside of the door that said there were 2 rooms still available, which I thought was a nice touch...why wake everyone up just to ask the question, I thought.
The owner was extremely talkative and friendly. He wrote all my info down on a 3x5 index card, since they'd run out of their usual check-in slips...again, very old-fashioned. The price was more than fair for that area. They accept credit cards, not always the case in these tiny mom'n'pop places.
The rooms are old-style knotty-pine, very quaint. Probably dating back to the sixties, but clean. Large, but the bathroom was tiny tiny. Get in, get out, one at a time. No extra amenities...just the stuff you'd need for an overnight stay. The bed could've been more comfy, though it had some amazingly comfy ... Read more |

I mailed a check to Paul Dabrowny at the Algonquin motel dated April 25th, 2007 for a two night stay in July on the 21st, 22nd for a wedding. The wedding ended up being postponed, but I called long before it was postponed to cancel my reservation due to illness. My first phone call was made on June 22nd,where I cancelled my reservation with Connie Dabrowny due to severe back pain from a failed surgery. Connie told me it would be no problem refunding my money since I was giving a monthy's notice. She said my check was sitting right in front of her and she would return it promptly. Next thing I knew I got my bank statement and it was cashed! Called Paul Dabrowny who said they were having problems with their staff, etc. and hadn't had a chance to mail my money back yet. He didn't say why he cashed my check a month prior to when we should have arrived however? Since then I have called on 6/28, 7/26, 8/9, 8/15 and 8/22. Both Connie and Paul Dabrowny both have promised to return my mon... Read more |
