Interesting Place

The Raleigh Hotel is undeniably shabby, with non-existent amenities, and your cell may drop many a call there, but a trip to the lone ice machine with the hotel maintenance man and his history-laden tale made it worthwhile for me. It was clear the guy appreciated its rich history. In its hey-day, The Raleigh was the area's largest employer and the place where Jerry Lewis was "discovered," and a hot spot frequented by the likes of Sinatra, Martin, and Davis. Not much has been invested in the place since 1963 (there is a picture of John F. Kennedy hanging on its original spot), but it is similar to visiting a moldy wax museum, or a barely-breathing, drive-in theater. If you're into that, and not so much into room service – and if you have something to do in South Fallsburg, NY –staying a night or two in this place is not the worst thing you could do. If you're visiting family, or going to the next “All Tomorrow's Parties,” this is the perfect place to escape to. But please don't tear the place up any more than it already is – and do yourself a favor; ask the maintenance guy where the ice machine is.

Worst hotel I've ever stayed in

Quite simply, this is the shabbiest and dirtiest hotel I have ever stayed in. It is below "motel" grade. The lobby level is well kept, though worn, and expectations as to the quality of the guest rooms. Our room featured soiled, stained sheets, roaches and built-up grime in the bathroom, wallpaper peeling from the walls, and carpet a bit tacky with dirt.
Needless to say, I would never consider visiting this hotel again.
