Friendly staff, big hotel

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Select many times since the casino opened. The staff is always friendly and professional. We stayed again in July & August, the hotel was extremely busy and our stay was not like it was in the past. On a good note, we did stay at the Select this past October, and that stay was excellent. The hotel was clean, appeared to be enough staff around the hotel, we received the same friendliness from the hotel employees as did on past stays. Huge improvement since August...way to go!

This was a great stay. The hotel was welcoming and had all the amenities I wanted. The rooms were larger than normal and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Hope to visit Niagara Falls again . Thanks

The hotel is like one giant mildewed oasis. I had trouble sleeping with the smell of gosh knows what was brewing in the pillows and mattress. A bathroom ceiling tile was falling down with water stains, and the floor was like a pool after each shower. We asked for a restaurant recommendation, and they recommended Denny's. Doors were slamming all night. We made coffee and the sugar and cream packet contents were as hard as a rock, obviously unusable. Let me put it this way, we were afraid to go barefoot in our room.

This is a solid tourist class hotel - great rates, great location, large room and decent furnishings. In fact, I have no real complaints. However, it is true that the American side of Niagara Falls looks like it has fallen on hard times for some reason, so don't expect upgrading or renovations anytime soon. While the Canadian side is pulling out all stops to create a mini-Las Vegas, the American side is quiet. You can walk into Canada and back easily, with a painless stop for immigration. I will go on record as saying I preferred seeing the falls from the American side. There is a beautiful park adjoining the falls that takes you along the river and to the falls. It was more exciting than seeing the "postcard" view with all the tourists across the border. For those who worship Las Vegas, your best bet is the brand-new, luxury Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Canada.

Avoid at all costs! No concept of customer service.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Select for 2 nights over Labor Day weekend to see the Falls and the Seneca Casino. The only good things about the trip were the falls and the casino....
The lobby stinks of chlorine and cigarette smoke.
The lobby gift shop is run by an asian man who can't speak english and threw us out at a quarter to nine because he was closing! He also overcharged us for batteries and bottled water.
Our room appeared to be okay, but within half an hour everyone's nose was blocked and our eyes were watering. This was an allergic reaction to all the mold and cigarette smoke in the room.
The Phins Restaurant in the hotel was an absolute disaster. The waiter was rude and made us wait 15 minutes before taking our order. They served us rotten coleslaw that was mixed with the rest of the food on the plate. When we asked them to remove the rotten coleslaw they responded with irritation and refused to apologize for the bad coleslaw. They also added drinks to our bill that we were never served. Finally, they had an advertised drink special and refused to honor it.
All in all, this hotel and restaurant should be avoided at all costs. It is not a healthy place to stay and will ruin your trip.

Our reservation was made at the regular Holiday Inn(Hi leigh), down the street from the Select but either would have been good.

The select found our reservation and got us to our hotel right away...the only reason I did not give an excellent is because we did not actually stay there.

The Sheraron Fallview stuck us for 350.00 dollars U.S. for not cancelling early enough, because of inadequate paperwork we could not enter Canada...so we did the falls from NY for about 130.00 and had a great time..

Priceline trap...Stay away

First trip to Niagara and didn't know better. Got it through Priceline. Priceline lists this hotel as 3-Star, what a joke. This is at best a 2-star hotel. The rooms were average at best. Carpet is old. Double beds are small and uncomfortable. Our room had a leak that was just fixed supposedly. The electric outlet in the bathroom didn't work. Calls to the front desk didn't get answered. They finally send someone to fix the electrical problem and he shows up with a plunger!! Then he disappeared. The pool is nice. The hot tub was still broken. If we go up to Niagara again, we will DEFINITELY stay on the Canadian side. The U.S. side is really dead and that's why this hotel will always have rooms available, and cheap.

We have stayed many times as a guest of
seneca niagara last year. This hotel was really
nice, but on August 2, 2004 we stayed there
again, and couldn't believe the difference
the lobby was a mess, only two elevators worked
one overwork desk clerk who was very nice,
considering the situation, the only time they
other two female clerks helped out was to
greet the pizza delivery man. The hot tub was
broken the pool wasn't to warm. Our room
had a smell as if it was closed up for months
the 6th foyer was filthy, our non smoking
room had a huge burn hole in the chair,
all nite long people slamming doors, kids
running up and down the hall. It was awful
to say the least. I definately will not stay
there again, even if it is comp to us.

Good accomodations for the price

We stayed at this hotel Aug. 7-11, 2004 and had a nice stay for the price ($89/night). The check-in was fairly quick and the room was good quality. The walls were thin, and, being next door to a casino, you can hear people coming and going throughout the night, so I'd suggest earplugs. Otherwise, the restaurant food was OK, although the staff does not always know their own menu (I was charged extra for chesse when I ordered a cheeseburger and my wife received a panini sandwich when it should have been a tortilla). The prices for the restaurant are a bit high, but with the "kids eat free" its not a bad deal. There are definitely more things to do on the Canadian side (much more crowded and expensive too), but this hotel is within easy walking distance to Canada and the Falls.

What a terrible hotel! Looks like a cheap one-star motel. Had to wait 20 mins. before check-in. staff was really unfriendly. Elevator was full with garbage and dirt. Room was dirty, TV wasn't working, Coffee-maker didn't have a carafe (not a large problem as I hate american coffee ... sorry folks), hairs in bathroom and we had to threw ourselfs against the door, because it was so hard to open.
After the night, we wanted to have breakfast ... waiting another 20 mins. to get one of the 10 free tables. Everything was cold and of bad quality. When we went back to our room, the door didn't open ... went to reception desk, she took our room-cards an gave us new cards ... but it didn't work. We went back and then the shouting receptionist sent us 2 guys to open the door. They had a special appliance for opening it. One of them said that he's used to opening a door this way, it often happens.
I can only warn everybody! DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL! Go to the canadian side of the river, there are better hotels and there's much more to do!

Top Local Tips for Niagara Falls

3rd street one block up from this hotel is about 3 or 4 bars/nightclubs which made it perfect to go out.

Where to Stay If you have children then the Canadian side is the place to be. That's where all the family attractions are located. But for a quieter, short vacation the American side is the place. You can see the Falls up close and it isn't too busy at the Niagara Falls State Park on the US side. And you can easily walk over the bridge to Canada for a better view of the Falls. The Crowne Plaza was great, but a little bit closer to the Falls were the Comfort Inn and the Quality Inn which looked very decent.

pine avenue. check out pine avenue for some great eating. Its a bit away from the tourist trap, but has a couple very good and reasonably priced restaurants.
