I would stay at the Barbizon every business trip (3-4 times a year for a week per visit). What attracted me to the Baribizon was the location (close to the park), the neighborhood, and the gym. I usually would take advantage of off season pricng or deals as a week visit can add up.
When the hotel was changed to the Melrose I was very happy with the changes, in particular, the Library. But what I also saw was the price jump $100-$150. a night and the gym cost rise to $18. It made me really look at the value of staying at the Melrose.
Suddenly the window units that hissed and knocked when you had the heat on, the sterile room decor with the military beds, the slow elevators, and the lack of good restaurants in the neighborhood didn't add up for the extra cost.
I have since moved across the park to a hotel on 72nd. and Broadway. I have found the service to be excellent, the beds alot more comfortable, and the neighborhood and restaurants to be incredible.......
