2 minutes walk to Times Square and 2 minutes walk to 5th Avenue.
All staff were very helpful, the Concierge booked restaurants and gave us great advice on a variety of things. Does expect to be tipped for this. We satyed in a suite on the 17th floor and the Empire State Building could be seen from our room window, awesome at night when lit up.

I avoided the Sofitel Hotel for years because, rightly or wrongly, I don't like the French. I couldn't bear the thought of putting money in their pockets. However, I broke down and tried the Sofitel. It was a wonderful surprise! The hotel was superb, spotlessly clean and the staff was exceptional. From the friendly valet personnel and bellmen who remember your name to the desk staff and cleaning people, everyone is friendly and helpful. The lounge is trendy and fun and the restaurant serves the best breakfast in Chicago. The location of the Sofitel is perfect. It is one block from Michigan Avenue and central to great shopping and superb restaurants. We actually save a bundle on taxi fares. The Chicago Sofitel is now our only hotel choice in the Windy City.

I found my stay at the Sofitel to be the perfect way to spend a relaxing evening prior to a hectic business meeting. Everything about the room is first class; immaculate and comfortable. The hotel makes the uncomfortable traveler feel at ease and at home. I recommend the Sofitel without reservation (excuse the pun).

Wonderful Sofitel

from A TripAdvisor Member
After staying at the Sofitel in Paris on business, I could not pass up the opportunity to stay in NY for $149 a night (queen room) on Expedia.

The hotel was beautiful and wonderful, with a very helpful and polite staff. The location is superb, and our ability to crash at the hotel lobby after sightseeing was great.

I surprised my wife with a trip to NYC so she could pick out her own bday gift on Fifth Avenue...okay...I forgot to pick one out myself so this was a quick "save my tail" manuever. If you are looking to be in the middle of shopping galore, Sofitel is is! Two blocks West is Fifth Avenue and two blocks East is Times Square Tourist Zone. Location is fabulous. You can get anywhere w/o a cab. The Hotel is beautifully decorated in modern furnishings, trimmings, and art. The room is the standard small Manhattan type, but the bathroom more than makes up for it. Huge! All marble, modern decor, stand alone shower , soaking is great. The lobby is impressive as is the exercise room for a quick pump. Go online and get their Loyalty card a few weeks before going. They will send you a temporary card in the mail. It gets you a 4pm checkout among other things.

Stayed at the Sofitel the weekend of July 26th 2003 and was not disappointed. I arrived very early at about 9:30 a.m. and they allowed me to checkin early! The room was spacious, clean... the bathroom had only a shower because that was all that was available for early checkin, but that was clean and spacious also with good lighting, a magnifying mirror, candle, toiletries... nice BIG SOFT towels... and many of them! the room also came with soft thick terry cloth robes, slippers.. had an iron and ironing board, hairdryer, safe, etc etc! The hallways were clean... and the lobby spacious and comfortable for those who had to wait to check in. Within walking distance of many attractions. I was alone, and felt perfectly comfortable staying here. The room also had great climate control and was QUIET! I usually don't sleep well in hotels, but here I had no problems at all. The only drawback was no view as my room was facing the other bldg, and because of that my cell phone hardly worked, but I'd stay here again in a NY second. Well worth the price!!

Great hotel

My sister and I recently stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. We were very pleased with the room (clean, comfortable queen bed, great bathroom - had a separate tub and shower, and quiet). The staff was friendly as well. We found an excellent rate on Our room came to $150 a night taxes included. Hotel location was very convenient only a couple blocks east of Times Square and a few blocks from Central station. This hotel seemed like a great place for couples and or adults. We didn't see any families with young children here. If I could get the same great rate I would definitely stay here again.

understated charm

We just celebrated an anniversary with a theater weekend in New York.
Our stay at Sofitel was all we could ask for in a hotel. Very nice comfortable lobby. very spacious rooms (on the 16 floor at least). HUGE bathroom complete with a shower stall bigger than my own at home plus a separate tub with its own shower massage. The bathroom even came complete with candles for a romantic bath. The fluffy bathrobes were a very nice touch as well. A very comfortable bed with a down (I think ) comforter. A very modern fitness center is in the basement. We booked online. Hint: Go to the sofitel site and get one of their cards. Our room was upgraded , we got a late checkout time and a free continental breakfast (enough for 2) . We would definitely consider staying again

Perfect for the Weekend Get-Away

from olvrouw
Not familiar with NY hotels and wanting a memorable weekend to celebrate our tenth anniversary, I researched the theatre district hotel options and one afternoon took a tour of the "short-listed" hotels, eventually selecting Sofitel. This is a fabulous modern hotel with a decidedly French flair and clientele which seems to cater to vacationers and business travelers. My wife's smile upon entering the room said it all to me.... It has many and varied features and amenities, including a refreshing marble bathroom with separate shower and bath; terry cloth bath robes and slippers. The room we stayed in was spacious with a queen size bed and a view of the Chrysler Building.
It was very clean and very quiet. They provide a turn down service that included Evian water and the next day's weather forecast. We were within walking distance of Broadway, Bryant Park, Grand Central Station, NY Public Library, St. Patrick's. The staff (front desk, bell hop, door men) were kind, friendly and gracious. The concierge was very helpful - obtaining Sunday brunch reservations on late notice. If you check Sofitel's web site, you can get a free priveleged member card which allows you to stay till 4 on the day of check out. The web site seemed to offer the same lowest rate as the other discount internet providers. It was an amazing, romantic get-away weekend destination, in a perfect location at a great value.

Nice hotel, great price for NY

Stayed in the Sofitel June 28-30 2003. The Sofitel is in a very good location, one block from Times Square. The rates are very good, try Expedia or their website. The room had a very comfortable queen bed, with turndown service and a nice bathrobe. The bathroom was large and clean, with good toiletries. I plan to stay here again on my return trips to NY.

loved the Sofitel in NYC

The Sofitel is a beautiful hotel-very modern, clean, and European. The staff was very friendly, the room was spacious, the large bathroom was gorgeous. This hotel would be our top choice for another weekend in NYC!

Absolutely Great Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I just cam back from New York A friend and I stayed at the Sofitel the first night and unfortunately, had to change hotels for the 2nd night because of a pre-arranged party we had to attend that hadalready booked the hotel at the crown plaza. The Sofitel was unvbeleiveable! My friend and I had arrived in NY very early, the hotel allowed us to check in early without a problem, the front desk was very accomodating and friendly. The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. We had 2 oversized twin beds(very comfortable). The room was an okay size, not massive but not too cramped. The bathroom was perfect, glass shower and separate bath. We had taken naps since we got there so early then went out for the night, when we returned the beds were made and turned down, there were 2 evian bottled waters on the dresser, everything was organized. Overall I could not have asked for a better stay. I have stayed at the overpriced Marriott Marquois before and the crown plaza, those hotels don't come close to the Sofitel. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The Plaza 5*, Sofitel 4*? A joke...

from A TripAdvisor Member
I arrived in New York on a short business/pleasure trip and promptly checked in at The Plaza, which, had I have read the reviews on here, would have avoided in the first place.I checked out after 3 hours and was recommended the Sofitel by a colleague. So there I headed. For both business and pleasure side of things (i.e. need an early night/come back late at night!) the hotel is perfect. Superb location, very (*VERY*) friendly and accomodating staff across the board (concierge/front desk/bar) and a fantastic room (had a "Superior Queen" - looked round a suite for an extra $100 a night and, had I have planned to stay in the hotel longer, I would have upgraded to).As a previous reviewer wrote, you can hear activity in the corridor sometimes, but I didn't find it too obstructive. How a hole like The Plaza can be a 5* hotel, versus the 4* Sofitel, I will never know. Will definately be using this hotel as "base" in my future visits, and will be recommending my colleagues and friends alike to do the same.If after you've stayed here you feel differently, I'm sure the staff would only be too willing to right any wrongs.

River Cafe, Brooklyn Don't waste your money. The view is breathtaking but that is it as far as I'm concerned. Food is pretentious.

woodbury common go to woodbury common early in your trip and get the shopping out of the way

Sofitel restaurant is great Don't let the fact that the restaurant is in a hotel put you off. It is in a FRENCH hotel! Great dining in nice room!
