When I went to the Salsbury Hotel in New York I thought it was the best hotel I've been to and it was everything I ever wanted . What I liked about it was how it was really close to everything such as...Broadway, Times square ETC. I thought it was great.

Coming from Scotland to Ny for the first time, and with two children, the Salisbury was everything we could have needed. It's central location made it easy to reach most places of interest without anybody becoming too tired.
The service was impeccable and unintrusive. The rooms felt safe and cosy.

We enjoyed the Salisbury Hotel very much. It has a great location with Times Square near by and Carnegie Hall right across the street. The hotel is comfy, and the in room fridge and microwave are great. We only had one problem -- one of the elevators wasn't working one day, and it made getting up and down tedious. The staff was friendly and helpful, and having church next door made it feel friendly also. The Salisbury has been around for a long time, and lots of friends recounted tales of their parents or grandparents staying there to enjoy the city. We recommend it!

Ok for the money...

Just got back from one night stay at Salisbury. Had booked a double non-smoking. It is in a fabulous location, but our room wasn't ready so they gave us a free upgrade to a suite in smoking, claiming they clean so well we wouldn't smell it. I was anxious as the lobby, elevator, and halls are a bit shabby and have more of the feel of an apt. building.
The suite was huge--a huge living area, nice sized bedroom, comfortable bed, seemed very clean if threadbare. But we did smell the smoke and had we been staying more than one night, would've moved (to a different hotel). Bathroom was spotless. But some paint was chipping and there was hair on my pillow (ick!). That said, you do get what you pay for ($109 a night--a steal in NY). I think it is a good buy for the money, but will stay elsewhere next time.

A perfect New York experience

If you're expecting a hotel with a glistening lobby filled with marble and brass like you've seen in all those movies with New York, then this isn't the place. But if you're looking for a nice place to lay your head in a perfect location in the city, you couldn't ask for a better place than the Salisbury.
Service was always friendly, room was huge by normal hotel standards (especially in New York). We were on the 16th floor on the side and had absolutely no problem with the noise from 57th St. Continental breakfast for $3 per person is a great deal if you want to eat at the hotel, lots to choose from. The only issue I can think of was that the room was quite hot, and the only way to really regulate the temperature was to turn on the air conditioner (even though it was about 10 outside).
I highly recommend the Salisbury for the price, services, and location.

Tremendous deal. The location couldn't be better. Staff was friendly and we got a great tip on a superb Italian restuarant. We stayed in the two bedroom suite and it was spacious to say the least. Can't wait to go back to New York and will definitly stay in the Salisbury again.
Dissapointing

I thought the hotel was old and quite shabby. The room itself was large and clean, but the bathroom was a throw back to the 60's, very dated.
We had a room overlooking the street and it was VERY noisy, the walls were also thin, could hear people talking next door. On departure we asked if there was any where to leave our luggage, we were told the bell boy would sort us out. It was $1 per bag, he put on tags and we left our luggage in the hall, he told us it would go down to the basement. When we arrived back at 4.30pm to pick our bags up, they were still where we'd left them, in full view of everybody in the hall, not even on a trolley, just dumped on the floor. The bell boy had gone off duty. The location of the hotel was good, but I wouldn't stay there again.

I'm from NY and picked the Salisbury to have some friends from out of town stay at. The location is excellent and they gave us a free upgrade to a suite because the 2 rooms weren't on the same floor. Let me just say that the suite was bigger then my apt. There is no fitness area or perks but for the price I would highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel really exceeded my expectations, and the price, amazing! 6 of us stayed in 3 rooms for 3 nights, 1/1 - 1/4/04. I was very impressed with the size of the rooms, the cleanliness, the features, and the price was amazing. I got each room, with two double beds per room, through hotels.com for an average of $146 a night, all taxes included. For this location and quality of hotel, I thought it was a bargain! The staff was great. They even upgraded one of our rooms to a suite at no extra charge so we could all be next to each other. What a bonus as two of the travelers were new to New York. Nice welcome! It became our "lounge". There was a large mini-fridge and a microwave, coffee pot, etc. Very spacious rooms as well. There was no fitness facility that I could find, FYI. And the breakfast offered was a $3 continental affair, but we didn't take advantage. Plenty of places nearby. I'd highly recommend this for any time of traveler. This was my 4th time in NY and the best deal I've found yet.

Great Location(central park,Times square,theatre district,5th ave.,Rockefeller centre) are all within walking distance. Good service.

Location, service, cleanliness, comfort, friendliness, you name it this hotel had it during our overnight stay during the holiday season. The room was cozy and warm, the shower was a pleasure, towels were fluffy, the beds firm and clean, loads of TV channels (including Disney for the kids) and the room in general was darn-near spotless. Room had a microwave, a fridge, a safe, a hair dryer, and they all worked. Staff always had smiles and hellos, always gave you their full attention.
Short walk to Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue, not a bad walk to Times Square, either. Subway stops at both corners. What's not to like? Not much, although I would recommend not taking a room with a street view. 57th Street is a main thoroughfare, trucks come barreling through at night and the garbage trucks are constantly knocking Dumpsters around. We were up a couple of times. But from now on, this is the first place we'll call whenever we're in the city.

Nice room, abit too far from Times Square, Staff RUDE

Our room was nice, very large, don't think you are getting a kitchen, the kitchen is a fridge and a microwave. You don't even get plates, knifes or forks.
Staff a just plan rude. They could not find our internet booking to start with, were rude when we asked for a hotel directory. We were asked why do you need one of them. It's helpful to know checkout time, where the ice machine and telephones are located. I was told just to ask at the front desk.
We asked about restuarants and were told the most expensive places close by.
For breakfasts we went to the supermarket that is down the road near the Hardrock cafe. It's great, close and has a large range. Hardrock has great food.
Next time we go we will stay a little closer to Times Square. By the end of the day we were very tired from walking

Top Local Tips for New York City
Local guide Visit the "Applegreeter" website and arrange to meet one of the locals. It gave us our bearings and we would not have seen anywhere near as much as we did if we hadn't met Bob, our guide. We now have a good friend out of it, too.
Don't let Taxi drivers boss you around Once you flag a taxi down, don't tell 'em where you're going until you actually get into the cab. Twice during my last visit (travelling with three other women), the taxi driver said he couldn't take us where we wanted to go. Finally, we all just piled into the cab and THEN told 'em where we were heading. Worked much better!
