It's hard to find a nice, clean, respectable place to stay in a decent nyc neighborhood for under $200--but this was it! Right near the Empire State building, Chrysler building, and bus station, it was a surprisingly lovely little hotel for about $140. Amazing!
Good location for tourism!!!

I stay at East Side few times a year - it's conveniently close to where I work then, the neighborhood is nice. Rooms are clean and well equipped - bathroom above expectations. It's small things that need to be taken care of: a smoking room with one or zero ashtrays sometimes, or a broken remote, or one phone works the other doesn't - and those things don't get fixed during my stay. Actually I got the asthrays, but only after two nights. Breakfast could be a bit more diverse; nevertheless, it keeps me up all day, specially when I have no time for lunch. A little wish: I know it's nearly impossible to keep outside of the windows clean, but at least the lower pane, please - the view is great sometimes, and it's hard to find a clean spot through which to aim the camera. I'll be back, of course. Both my boss and I regularly stay at East side.

I was really dissapointed when I arrived at this hotel. Although I made reservation more than a month before my trip, I received the surprise that no room was available due to lack of water, electricity, which I suppose was not true.

Even if above was true I would have expected to be provided with another similar room as it was not my fault. I have always admired service provided in USA but this time it failed.

The least I expected when I arrived at this hotel at midnight after more than five hours of travel was to have my room reserved.

They did not give any solutions just sent me to another more expensive hotel at walking distance, however with heavy luggage and tiredness a taxi would have been appreciated.

I will never again visit this hotel and I will not recommend it to anyone.

It really was a bitter experience. I hope this message could be read by the sales manager or responsible people who promote this hotel.

My girlfriend and I stayed here last year 2004. It was our first visit to Manhatten, and it was great. The Hotel is very well located, very reasonable, and offered a lovely breakfast. We were only there for 3 nights, so we were on the move,so it was great to have the little store next to the Hotel where we booked all our excursions, and the gentleman there was so helpful. There are nice little restaurants close by, and it was no hassle to walk to Times Square etc.,. This location of the Hotel is ideal, our room was large and had two Queen sized beds and clean, and the price is definately right. Just enjoy.

Good value in an expensive city

from A TripAdvisor Member
I spent ages trawling the web looking for a hotel with decent reviews and at reasonable prices and ended up plumping for the Ramada. Couldn't really complain to be honest. It's pretty basic and if you're expecting huge rooms, big bathrooms, 5 star restaurant then look elsewhere. It's ideal for people on a budget as NY is one expensive place. Walking distance from Empire State, Grand Central, 5th Avenue. Couple of blocks from the subway for attractions further afield. It's an ideal location. It is pretty basic and the free breakfast isn't going to fill you up or anything but for the price in a city as good as NY then you can't complain. Oh, and book via the Ramada website.

Nice place!

It was my first trip to NYC, and I loved this hotel! It was out of the tourist-y parts so we got a chance to see a cute part of the city. Very close walking distance to many things, and the neighbourhood is very multi-cultural. There are also some great restaurants beside the hotel- a cute spot for a warm breakfast. Being a university student on a budget, this hotel offered a price comparable to some hostels, but it was so much more comfortable and it had a very retro and classy feel to it. I will definately consider staying there again!

The one problem with this hotel was a BIG one

from A TripAdvisor Member
Ramada Inn was comfy and quiet, the rooms were nice, the staff was excellent and helpful...BUT there was one big problem. I was surprised after all the good reviews for this hotel on here. There was a bad roach problem. I saw at least 8-10 roaches in my room during my three night stay (during the first week of Sept 04) overall, and there was even a roach on the counter while we were checking out. Yikes. Maybe that's just par for the course in New York City, I don't know. But they should at least stock the rooms with some RAID! If the management tackled the roach problem, this would be a great little hotel.

Nice Price, Ok hotel

from TravelCouple7
Stayed here for a week in August. For NYC, the price of this hotel is very nice. Especially for the location in the Upper East Side. The room is small but clean. The street noise isn't bad. Free breakfast wasn't anything special. If you like bagels-you're in luck! That's about all they offer besides bruised bananas and apples. Coffee isn't good, either. But hey, it's free. The staff was average. The control for the AC is annoying-either you freeze on the high switch or roast on the off. There is no in between. Good walking distance to the Empire State Bldg, about 3 blocks and to a subway entrance. Great location for catching a cab. There is also a very charming Italian restaurant right next door called The Belvadere-we ate there several times, wonderful salmon and steak. My husband and I loved NYC. Be sure to visit the Met and have lunch in Central Park!

It worked for me!

from A TripAdvisor Member
This place was great for the price. My mom and I were in NYC for the first time and didn't want to waste money on a hotel that we planned to spend little time in. We stayed at the hotel for two nights and found the staff unfriendly but we weren't turned off by it. The room was small, clean and quiet. We even had a great view. The continental breakfast was good and we loved that they had bagels and cream cheese too. Overall, I would stay here again.

This is a great hotel for the price: clean, cool renovated building, friendly staff, decent (& free!) continental breakfast. More "taste" of the city than the family / large tourist groups Times Square hotel experience. Our room was a corner so we had 2 windows of sunshine and a view of the neighborhood streets.
Tip: Expedia charged more than the Ramada website (weekdays $89)
Tip: If there is 1 thing this hotel could improve, it's the towels. If you need fluffy, thick towels to dry your hair, bring one of your own. If you don't care, don't worry, it's fine.
Transportation: cabs always available. Take healthy walks to Union Square or Times Square, 6 train is close by or further up is Grand Central Station. Take the M101/M102/M103 bus down to the Lower East Side.

Great price. clean, what a deal

from A TripAdvisor Member
Hotel was very close to the subway. Very clean. Very quiet. The best part was it was very affortable (NY standards). My wife and I were there over the July 4th weekend. She also loved the fact that it was the same hotel seen in the movie "The Terminal". Even though the room was a bit small, compared to hotels in other cities, it was perfect for the 2 of us. 1 street away from a lot of restaurants. Highly recommend it for the price.

affordable, quiet, comfortable

from A TripAdvisor Member
I was so very happy here in NYC. It was my first visit to the Big Apple, and this hotel was wonderful. Close to subway, friendly-staff, and comfortable rooms.

Thanks so much!

good value, good location

from A TripAdvisor Member
i've only been to New York once, but this hotel was very good value for money, in a good location (near the empire state building). The rooms were clean, comfortable, the en-suite bathroom was nice, and there was a big TV! The staff were helpful enough, and breakfast was decent-bagels, doughnuts, ceral, fruit... I can't remember exactly what we paid, but it was a better price than we found for some hostels. I would definately recommend it.
