Historical Traveller Reviews of Park Savoy Hotel
ugh!

This place reminded me of an old Motel 6 in the middle of nowhere. The kind of old motels you stay in out of desperation. The staff was okay, the ONE elevator was slow and the room's decor left plenty to be desired. The location on the other hand was superb!! A block to the subway and central park. I agree with the previous reviewer about the star rating, it's definitely not 3 star. I would barely give it a 2 star rating. I knew not to expect much for the $100 price, but for the same amount of money, I have stayed in much nicer places in NYC. I would never stay here again unless the price was lowered significantly.
Crappy Room, Great Location

This hotel and it's rooms are highly over rated. It was stated as a 3 star but it is a 1 at best. The location is good and extrememly close to Central Park and Times Square. If you want space for the kids to run around book another hotel. If your looking for amenities such as a blowdryer, microwave or refrigerator think again because all they give you is a bar of soap.
Small small room, great location!

Okay, let's be blunt the rooms are very small, beds are hard, the bathrooms are alright however you have to let the hot water run a little in order to get some. Don't take a room on a too higher floor because you will soon notice that it is faster taking the stairs than waiting for the elevator. The rooms were clean & the staff polite. The location however is perfect, a block away from Central Park and it surrounding attractions(museums, restaurants etc.). The place is okay(plain), cheap, and well located therefore i gave it 4/5 (mainely for the location). If you look for a place to crash after a long day of walking around it will do just fine.

I planned a suprise trip for our 12th anniversary. We were there from Feb. 20-23, 2004. Boy, were we the ones getting suprised. Although the lobby was okay, the room left alot to be desired. The room was so small that I ended up with bruises on my shins from the corner of the bed. We could not walk around the full size bed without the other person laying down on the bed. Our view out the window cement brick wall about 3 feet away. The bathroom sink was so small that if you tried to lean over to brush your teeth, your head would hit the mirror and the toothpaste would land on the facet. We were afraid to sleep under the covers, so we just slept on the bedspread with a blanket. And last, everytime we went to the front desk for directions anywhere they did not know. Thank goodness that I had so many things planned in 4 days that we only had time to change clothes and sleep in the room. Next time we'll pay an extra $20 a night for a much better room. Great place students traveling on very low budget.

Called for a reservation for one night for two adults and a child (17) year old girl. Not told that the hotel didnot have a restaurant or a lobby or ANY other ammenities that NORMAL hotels have. Place was dingy and the desk clerk? was not help full. The only thing he did quickly was take my credit card and swipe it. WE went up to the room and my daughter was afraid of the noise the elevator made. Small room but clean--TV had no/very bad reception. The TOILET DID NOT FLUSH. You had to wait about 5 (five) minutes for it to semi flush so that you could try again. There was alsoNO HOT WATER AT ALL EITHER DAY. We also had a window in the bathroom which led to a shaft full of debris and various other items. BAD!!!
A little on the rough side...

My wife and I spent three days here with another couple over Valentine's weekend. Definitely an older building with none of the amenities. The size of the rooms was what we expected based on the reviews. They are SMALL but clean and the bathroom is definitely designed with a small or skinny person in mind. The staff was nice enough and we had no trouble getting extra pillows. The downside: Hot water became a luxury and washclothes were nowhere to be found. The TV reception in the lobby pulled in ESPN but all we could get in our rooms was the local networks and gay porn on the public access channel.
Overall, I would probably not stay here again. It was too cramped and not as close to Midtown as I would have liked.

Sleep Elsewhere!
from Georgina76
We booked a room here based on the foregoing reviews and were extremely disappointed. Our room was TINY, service was almost nonexistent- it took 3 hrs to get 2 more thin pillows. The bed had only a box spring on it- no mattress!! The roar of an exhaust fan the size of the Titanic was heard all night outside our window. I got maybe 4 hrs sleep and an aching back. The room was dirty- we moved a chair and found mounds of dust. Towels were hair thin- shower- no tub- was 2 ft wide. No Kleenex, no soap dish, no closet ( a tiny wardrobe). Parking is $25 a night - cheap- but you can't take your car out again or you get charged every time. We really wish we had spent more than $117 to get a decent hotel.
Never again!!
For the price, a fine establishment

I wasn't expecting much for $91 a night in NYC, and certainly my room was bare-bones, at best. My room and bathroom were extremely small and sparsely furnished, yet clean. Don't expect amenities like tissues in the bathroom or air/heat control. If you're a large person, you'll have difficulty turning around in the very narrow shower stall. Also, you can't make outside calls from your room phone (even local ones) without buying a card from the front desk, but since most of us have cell phones today, that's not such a big deal. Bottom line: you're not going to want to spend a lot of time in your room. Despite these criticisms, I'd still recommend Park Savoy for its great (and safe) location, good value, and polite and helpful front-desk staff. There's really not a better deal going in that area of Manhattan, and, believe me, I've done my homework. If you're simply looking for an inexpensive, safe, clean place to sleep and shower, you'll be satisfied with Park Savoy. Ask about the continental breakfast (coffee and muffin) served next door.
Top Local Tips for New York City
Subway System
The streets and subways are very organized and it doesn't take long to get your bearings. Can get an all day subway fun pass for $7.00
Use the Subway
USe the subway, much cheaper, but you need to lean the map. Not difficult. I did it, and I from a small country.
Super Shuttle has to get you to the airport 4hours before your flight -
Plan accordingly. We thought we would have more time on our last morning but we spent half of it in LaGaurdia. Super Shuttle is good service they just want to get everybody to the Airport on time & the price is not outrageous. It was a first trip to NYC so we did not mind the half dozen stops before our hotel. It was like a quick tour of Manhattan! It also showed how aggressive the cabbies are in the city. They really show no mercy honking & blocking parts of the streets to get there customers to their locations. Again the Super Shuttle person was extremely patient considering how regular drivers were blocking entrances to where they need to get.
