Very rude and unhelpful

I stayed at the hotel for a week, just before Christmas. Although the location was very good, very near to Times Square, and the room was clean, everything else was a COMPLETE disaster! The staff was the rudest and most unhelpful staff I've ever seen in my life, including some of the worst hotels around the world! Whatever we wanted we had to come across with a very high attitude of every single employer, and at the end we couldn't even have our job done! And most worse of all, a week after I'd checked out I realized that they still had $2,000 hold on my credit card, so I found myself calling my lawyer! Do yourself a GREAT favore and avoid BY ALL MEANS this hotel!

Well, the location is the only good thing about this hotel( I guess it's the only thing that doesn't depend on their staff).Never in my life had I come across such remarkably rude, arrogant and incompetent receptionists. The hotel entrance seemed like a refugee camp, due to the delay in sorting things out. I was told by one of the receptionists that my reservation was not a reservation at all, but only a request ( although I had paid for that...unbelivable!!)and I had to wait for 3 hours for the room to be ready. Well...my advice is to avoid this deplorable place absolutely at any costs.

I made reservations for a wheelchair accessible non-smoking room with a view weeks in advance. Got smoking room with view of alley. Upon ck out I complained to a different mgr and was told I should have said something b4 I pd. Since they already knew upon cking in I didn't think I needed to inform every hotel employee...?

The Park Central was wonderful. It was very clean and great location. The staff was friendly. We were able to check in early and the room had a view of Times Square (18th floor). I would stay again. Didn't use room service or restaurant. Really nice work out room. Carnegie Deli down the street was great!

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, after reading some reviews, I was a little worried but I found that the staff were friendly, warm and helpful. The rooms are kept clean also on a daily basis. A great location within minutes from Times Square and Central Park. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting New York. I would stay at this hotel again on my next visit, hopefully sometime soon.

Disappointed in Service & Room

The hotel was not what it was portrayed to be on the hotel's website. My fiancee and I had a late check in and informed the hotel of such twice before arrival, so we were very suprised to find that our room had been given away when we arrived at 12:30am on a Thursday night. The explainatation from the desk clerk was that it was "first come, first serve" to which I asked what are reservations for? The clerk did not answer me and after approximately 10 minutes of wrangling we were giving an upgraded room. Though we were provide a suite we were underwelmed with the furnishings and view of a brick wall.

Took a large group to the PC. 40% of the rooms were not ready until 6 hours after contractual check in time. When they did enter rooms, many were unhabitable - one person who waited until 1 PM to get their room found empty liquor bottles and remains of someone being ill still in the bathtub. Too many more stories of horror like this to mention. Hotel management was unresponsive and front desk staff were incompetent and rude. General Manager has yet to call me to address the situation. Taking all of this up with the Hotel Association of NYC and the better business bureau. This hotel is a complete disaster. Spare yourself the pain.

We arrived at 8pm and had to wait until 1am for our rooms to be cleaned even though we had paid for them in advance and had phoned ahead to confirm our reservations. The staff were extremely rude and unhelpful. A complete joke of a hotel.

We were a bit concerned by some reviews we had seen. My wife and I stayed at the Park Central for 4 nights. The room was large for NYC, bathrooms huge, closet adequate. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Great location.

Having visited New York City on several times, I found this hotel to be adequate, but overpriced. The room not up to par for the price I paid... stains on the floor...I had a problem with the consierge when trying to get tickets for a broadway play. On a positive note, the location was great.

Good Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here one night, only $124 before taxes and fees. Amazing price for a hotel like this. I have no complaints. Everything and everyone was nice. We got a room with a view of Times Square; a nice king size bed; a slick, immaculate bathroom; chilly air conditioning...a perfect experience. Just a short stroll to the heart of Times Square. Nice bar, expensive, but no worse than most NY bars.

Try Da Tommaso's nearby for a nice, quiet Nor. Italian dinner: 903 Eighth Avenue, between 53rd and 54th Streets. The shrimp portofino was excellent.

Cons

from BirminghamUKTony
We (2 adults and children aged 15 & 12) stayed in a single room in early August 2003.This hotel is all about location, location, location. Just between Central Park and Times Square, next to a subway and lots of restaurants, it is a great......location.It's also a reasonable price if you're not too fussy about the rooms, or getting to them.I don't know what's wrong with the lifts but you can count on spending a long time waiting for one.Our room was small, the bathroom was in a pretty poor state and had no air-vent. The "air-conditioning" was a convection heater at one end of the room which turned that part into a fridge while the other end stayed hot. None of the sliding windows would remain open. The staff were friendly and seemed efficient but we asked little of them so it's difficult to say more.Still, it is a really great location!

Overall horrible

from Symp
The location and the hotel's lobby are the only nice attributes of this place. Service is abysmal! We had a next-door "guest" yelling all night and the manager on duty would say he'd handle it (3 times) but did not.
Calling for missing amenities would require 3 to 4 calls (missing soap, hand towels, pillows). The faucet in the bath was so full of grime that I took a photo and I will try to send it to the hotel director if I can get his email address. There's no King Bed option, as advertised everywhere. Or at least, that's what I was told over the phone when confirming our reservation. To conclude: I will never be a patron for this place ever again.

Great Hotel in a Great area!

from Dks_34
Just returned home from 4 nights at the Park Central. I had read many reviews from the best to the worst. I would highly recommend this hotel. It was clean, the room was big (in NYC terms) and I had no problems. There seems to be some concerns with the elevators but I never had any problems, I never had a wait longer than a couple of minutes. The area was great because you were steps away from Central Park, the theatre district and times Sqaure. if you have some hours to kill I would recommend the CircleLine 3 hour cruise of "the Island" Just pray for a sunny day. The only thing I didn't try was the restaurant for breakfast - $21 dollars for a Buffet breakfast just seems a little pricey. And take a walk in Central park, I saw barbara walters out for her morning stroll.

Very decent..Great location

My family and I just spent 4 nights at Park Central. The room was very clean and modern and a bit larger than most NYC hotel rooms. Had one minor maintenance item which was rectified immediately. All staff were friendly and helpful. I strongly suggest to all out of towners on their first visit to this terrific city that you take advantage of the Gray Line double decker sightseeing tours. Even though I had lived here years ago, it was the best way to see all the different neighborhoods and the guides were a wealth of information.

Great Time

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just returned from a weeks stay at the Park Central. I was very nervous choosing a hotel on the internet for NYC. We wanted a hassle free, safe, clean, centrally located hotel, & we, thankfully, got it.
This hotel is so nicely located. It's a few blocks from the hustle & bustle of Times Square, a few blocks from a great entrance to Central Park, 5th Ave., etc. We would pick up bagels at "Pick a Bagel" each morning & eat breakfast in the park & watch baseball games! The subway is very close. We chose to take the red line everywhere when possible & it's only a few blocks away in Washington square. The room was comfortable. It has in room movies, cable, etc. We didn't have a view, but we probably looked out the window twice because we were never in the room & when we were we just relaxed. Staff was very nice & helpful.
I would have liked more towels, they only gave us 3 for 4 people, but all we had to do was ask. Elevators were no problem, we had to wait a couple of times, but no big deal. Would definitely stay again.

Our stay at the big apple

from GRandPD
The hotel is conviently located with easy access to subway stops.
However, there were not enough towels for two of us. We did not have a great view from the window, but we did not care since we were hardly in the room. In the mornings, catching the elavator was a big problem. We had to wait for a long time. The price was reasonable.

Positive Experience, Nice View, Quick Elevators

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Park Central was very nice. I followed an earlier reviewer's lead, and I asked for a room with a view. We could see signs from Times Square from our room. (There are buildings that somewhat limit the view; but still, it is a good view!) Also, an earlier reviewer mentioned concerns about the elevators taking a while. We did not have that problem at all. I was surprised by the ease in which we made our way downstairs via elevator from the 20th floor. Also, I felt comfortable, safety wise, at this hotel. Times Square has certainly changed since I was last there (over 10 years ago!)

Great location/price!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Go to the hotel's website and book a room for $124.00. Ask for a room with a view when you get there (Fred at the front desk was great!) and you'll be accomodated if there is room. Staff was friendly, room service a bit slow. You can stow luggage before check in and after check out - very nice for those of us with bags. And, if you want a good drink (a bit pricey), see John the bartender (a good irishman). We would stay there again, definitely! (Also, Ray's pizza is just down the street on the left, and the subway entrance is right around the corner, so you're set!)

Loved it

from WorkingMom74
I thought this hotel was excellent. I expected a room in NYC to be tiny, but this room was as large as you'd find anywhere. The staff were friendly, the room was clean and the location is EXCELLENT! it was conveniently located on the subway and within a quick walk to Times Square or central park. I would absolutely stay here again and again!
What a pleasant experience!
