I enjoyed the excellent night view from the room. The location of the hotel is convenient. Business center is also good to use. Thank you for the wonderful amenity for business travellers.

Excellent Hotel for Medium Budget

Celebrated my 30th birthday in New York recently and stayed at the Novotel. I wasn't expecting much from the hotel as the whole package was quite a bargain. I prepared myself for a very basically decorated hotel with a comfertable enough bed to crash in. The Hotel is situated on Broadway, a central and exciting area which is a great base to go see everything else NY has to offer. The Hotel reception is very large and stylish with a nice little bar and restaurant. The staff were really friendly and our room had the most amazing view over Times Square from the 26th floor. I had a great weekend in New York and it was a pleasure coming back to the Hotel each evening. Stay at this Hotel unless you are loaded, in which case go to Park Avenue !. It's just perfect for a meduim budget.

Great location

Just returned from our first visit to NY with husband and 4 children (inc 3 teens). Originally booked 4 nights at Pennsylvania Hotel but changed to Novotel after reading reviews on Tripadvisor! Got good rate for 2 rooms with Expedia (2 double beds in each room). Were on 12th floor with good views of Broadway and Times Sq. Check-in friendly and efficient as were staff on help desk and main entrance. Rooms clean, towels and linen changed daily if requested. Had a fantastic time in NY and would use this hotel again. Diner on corner of 52nd and Broadway serves excellent breakfasts - went there every morning!

This hotel was reasonably priced, efficent, great view and location.
Bar lounge was pretty boring, too bright for my taste, service (bartender slow) average at best. Rooms clean with a good view, everything worked. Just nothing special to write home about, get an internet rate. Don't pay full price it would be a huge rip off. All in all average.

We spent a couple of nights at the Novotel in late December with my wife and two kids travelling. It was a bit wierd walking into a small lobby and going up the escalator to reception. Check in attitude and the reception area were fairly pleasant but we were disapointed at the grim look of the corridors to the rooms. The room itself was OK but nothing to write home about, everything was clean and everything worked. We ordered room service which was good but, like others have said, the tray was not cleared away for a long while afterwards.
Location wise, the hotel is very well situated near the Metro and within walking distance of Central Park, 5th Ave, Rockerfeller Cent and Macy's. On the last day we waited for our friends to collect us and have to compliment the bell hops on their pleasant attitude when we stored our luggage and the nice atmosphere in the bar.

i stayed at the novotel friday night to sunday morning (feb. 6-8) with 3 of my other college friends.its true that this is not the hotel if you want to be spoiled in luxury and fake smiles every 2 seconds but with workers that do their jobs as an average joe and run it smoothly then it's a great place! it was my first time in NYC and i arrived in the morning to manhattan. when the cab stopped in front of novotel, i was a bit skeptical. at first all you see is a couple of floors and a elevator lobby that looked gloomy and a bit run down. once you arrive to the main lobby, you'll feel warmly relieve upon setting eyes on a cozy, trendy, contemporary, petite hotel lobby. they were nice enough to check us in earlier than 3 which was a big reliever! i didn't get a nice view on my 12th floor room, but it was decent enough. but if we faced the other side, we would have a great view of time square. after awhile, i felt very pleased with this hotel. although you're right next to times square, you're relieved to be out of the main terrority and in the middle like a border line. walking distant from many quick breakfast (europa cafe), subway, time square, short bus distant to upper town..etc...and the cafe in the hotel has a nice atmostphere, i really loved it there. i felt safe for a late night smoke in front of the hotel with the guard handling the doors. it's a very decent place with the rates and service and room... a good 3 1/2 as rated before. my favorite was how i can just walk down to the famous broadway ticket booth in just 2 minutes and then shop around along the way at cute little stores as i head for dinner at bubba gump 2 mins down and then walk another 2 minutes to my show. things like that...

Stylish and Good Value

The Expedia rate of $155 was an excellent value. The location is right in the middle of the Times Square/Theatre district. I was surprised that my room on the 10th floor was very quiet with only minimal street noise. The hotel has a fun, French personality. Many of the guests appeared to be young Europeans. The public areas are stylish and the restaurant where we had breakfast has a great view of Times Square. The room was small, but attractive, with good lighting and three chairs.
The only thing that marred my experience was the chilly reception at the front desk when checking in. No smile or greeting. All in all, If I could get the same rate, I would stay here again.

Novotel is average

Stayed at the Novotel from January 30, 2004-February 1, 2004. Very average hotel - definitely don't expect any luxury, but, the rooms were quiet and clean. If you can get the $139/night rate, then it is worth it. If you pay more than that, it is definitely not worth it.
Refrigerator brought to room upon request, but, no coffeemaker. Reminds me of a Days Inn or a slightly rundown Holiday Inn. I've stayed at other Novotel hotels before and this one is definitely more rundown than the others. Great location if you're going to catch a show, but, if you want to see the "true" New York, then stay somewhere else. Times Square is "tourist trap" central so don't get stuck there.

Well Situated Hotel

Just returned a few days ago. The Hotel is well situated for everywhere in the Midtown area. It was very cold while we were there but the rooms were nice and warm and the beds were very comfortable. The bathroom could do with updating but it was very clean and the water piping hot.
We were on the 25th floor and it was incredibly quiet. We never heard a sound from either the street or any of the rooms around us which is very unusual. The only thing I would mark them down on was that there was no coffee making facilites in the room, I don't know whether that is the norm in NY hotels, but I really missed not having a coffee when I got up in the morning or on returning to our room after a hard days shopping. I'd be happy to stay there again, but I'll bring a travel kettle next time!

t expect luxury

Though Expedia et al rate this hotel as a three-star, it's really a two-star at best. What it has going for it is that the room was very clean and the lobby was attractive. Negatives: I booked a king room, and was told it was not available, so was given a room with two double beds. The beds themselves sagged and were very uncomfortable. (Not to mention the room looks like a Holiday Inn circa 1974.) The rooms are NOISY, since you can hear everything that goes on in the rooms on either side of you and above you. There was no TV/cable reception at all for my entire three night stay there. (In fairness, they did offer a free pay-per-view movie to compensate.) Room service trays stayed in the hallway all day long. Worst of all, since I was there during a cold snap, is that the HVAC units in the rooms have an "energy saving feature", which basically doesn't allow the heat to come on for more than about two minutes at a time, and then ONLY when the DOOR to the room is opened! The thermostat setting doesn't matter. There is a little switch in the door jamb--that's what controls the heat! Feeling cold at night? You have to get up from bed and OPEN THE DOOR TO THE ROOM to get the heat to come on for your two minute allowance! Will I ever stay there again? Nope.

The first thing I liked about the Novotel is that they gave me a room right away even though hotels.com screwed up my reservation (still got the hotels.com rate at $139/night). I asked for a refridgerator, for medical reasons, and they gave me one at no charge. The room was nice and quiet, looked out over Broadway from the 22nd floor. Not a huge room but okay by NYC standards. Great location. Breakfast buffet was very good (cheaper than the Sheraton's). Only complaint - the grout and caulking in the bathtub could be a little better; otherwise no problems.

Top Local Tips for New York City

Tours and Shopping If your looking for value for money definately gain an all access pass to the tourist buses. We went with City Sights NY and for roughly 80 dollars you can get 3 day passes on any bus any time and tickets to empire state building, 2 cruise, statue of liberty and many more. Also Woodbury common premire outlet was fab for any last minute designer bargins.

When using the subway....find a local! The New York subway is possibly the most confusing system in the world. Even with a map its bewildering as there are several trains running on the same line and due to track works there are tens of posters up giving you masses of information about line changes etc. I found the best thing to do is ask a friendly looking local. The chances are they wont be a New Yorker but there will usually be someone who knows which train to get on and failing that some other poor tourist who wants to go to the same place as you.

TKTS Go to TKTS booth for a huge savings on broadway shows. Opens at 3pm but you should line up earlier. Line moves fast once box office opens. Most shows are available. Avenue Q and Colour Purple were fantastic (and purchased at 1/2 off each). Husband could line up, while wife shops around Time Square. Kills to birds with one stone - you get good tickets and you don't have to go into every store.
