I could not have wished for a better hotel for my five night break in NYC. The hotel room was a good size, the service was good and the elevators were amazing, plenty of them and very quick to arrive.The location was brilliant right near times square and our room had a good view. Would definitely stay there again

The marquis is a good middle level hotel in the heart of times square. Our room had a great splashy view of the square. The room was fairly large, bed confortable and the staff especially the concierge was very good. Elevators were very slow so God help you if you left anything you need to go back for. It is well located near theaters, good restuarants and the subway. Better than average for its class but certainly not anything unforgetable.

My daughters (ages 16 and 18) stayed at the Marriott Marquis this summer for five nights and loved the location. Amenities were fine, but nothing special. The room was a good size for a New York hotel and the staff were friendly and helpful. Parking our car there added considerably to our bill but was very convenient.I would definitely stay here again.
We loved the Marquis. Everything was top of the line.

We stayed at the Marquis for 4 days in August. We had a party of 10 and had 3 rooms. The service and accomodations were top of the line. Its got a great location and the we would definitely stay there on our next trip.

My husband and I stayed at the Marriott Marquis from September 14-17 and we absolutely loved it. The location was perfect and the hotel was beautiful. Definitely worth the money! It was in walking distance to many attractions and it was very close to the subway. The rooms were much larger than I expected and relatively quiet, considering the location. I would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Overall our stay at this hotel was great. We arrived within an hour after the blackout occured. I do not believe the hotel had any control over their main generator failing...I found the staff to be as accomodating as possible under the circumstances. They gave free food and soft drinks to anyone who passed through the hotel, no matter if they were guests or not. Also, they refunded all payment for the guest rooms for both Thursday and Friday nights. (We already received our credit back on our card). We did not sleep out on the street...we found a spot in one of the ballrooms and "camped" out with others. Once the power came back on, the hotel recovered within hours...the restrooms were cleaned up in record time, (believe me they were AWFULLY dirty...no flushing for 24 hours!!!..housekeeping deserves a special bonus for that mess!@!!!!). I believe the staff did an impeccable job under the circumstances they were given. I hope and pray no one has to go through that scare again though, I'll never take a flushing toilet for granted again!!! It is good to remember the humanness in everyone during situations beyone our control.
After The Blackout!

Arriving in New York the Saturday after the blackout, you would have never known just hours before the city was a mess! We found the hotel very accomodating, service was great! We were on the 27th floor and NEVER waited more than 2 minutes for a clear elevator. Hotel staff were friendly and very knowlegeable about New York. Traveling with our 24 year old that uses a scooter to get around in, this hotel was spacious and the bathroom and bedroom were big. Being right in the middle of Time Square was perfect, plenty to do and see right there. City buses are all handi cap accessible and our son rode FREE!! Buying a Metro Card was the best and cheapest way to see the city. We also took a harbor tour and had door to door service from the Marriott. For $19.00 and a 90 minute tour we saw everything from the water. First time in New York...can't wait to return!!! Big Apple! Big FUN!
d never know there had been a blackout

We arrived on Sunday, August 17 for a one-night stay and you never would have known anything had happened a mere three days before.
Everything ran very smoothly, even the much complained about elevators were fine. I don't think we waited any more than three minutes and we were in and out constantly. The room was very nice--my daughter slept in one of the chairs so she could fall asleep to the lights of Times Square., My only complaint would be the age limits at the fitness center--no one under 14 admitted...period. They should make it 10 or 12 and up--with parental supervision. My son was very disappointed.

Marriot Marquis is horrible

We were at the Marriot Marquis during the blackout. Due to their negligence, the backup generators went out. They failed to perform the required servicing. Under the guise of safety concerns, they kicked everyone out on the street with the rats. They wouldn't allow guests to use their bathrooms as they claimed they were overflowing. They almost allowed several guests to get run over by cars as they exited the carport. They had zero emergency backup lighting and we sat in darkness outside on the dirty dround. They passed out a few pillows and tablecloths as a token gesture, but it wasn't nearly sufficient. To add insult to injury they billed me for that night. Marriot hasn't heard the last of this.
They were awful and I will never stay at a hotel owned by Host Marriot Corp. again.

Average but friendly staff

The hotel is great for first time visitors as it sits in the center of Times Square. Rooms were spacious and average in cleanliness. The common areas were hot and the rooms can get warm and stuffy producing a musty smell. The hotel is almost too large. The room rate specials were great and hotel staff friendly. Biggest disapointment was the food at the Encore Restaurant. Had breakfast there and the food was tasteless, cold and overpriced. I thought it was impossible to make bad french toast but the Encore's chef proved me wrong. Also ate at JW's Steakhouse in the hotel. The food was okay but extremely overpriced.
Drinks were great though. DO NOT eat at the Roxy Deli which is down the street from the hotel. Made the mistake of going there for a quick bite before the theatre because it was close by. The restaurant is filthy, food is terrible and terribly overpriced. Do yourself a favor and catch a cab to Little Italy for great food at decent prices.

Marquis fit for a King

I've stayed at many hotels in NYC, but the Marquis is by far, my favorite. The lobby offers an old world charm reminiscent of a comfortably elegant library and the guest rooms are spacious, clean and cozy. The Marquis is in the heart of the theater district which offers a myriad of restaurant and entertaiment choices within walking distance. A friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff round out the Marquis experience. As a frequent visitor to New York City, it seems more like I'm coming home.
Major Elevator Inconvenience

Two words: Book Elsewhere!
The hotel itself is wonderful. The staff helpful and courteous beyond belief.
However, the elevator situation almost ruined our weekend. They are in the process of remodeling the elevators (6-9 month task). Apparently only a few of the elevators are working. One time we waited at least 30 mintues. We were on the 30th floor, too far to walk down. We tried everything, including going "up" to go down. Every time the doors opened (either up or down), the elevator was packed. We were never able to get on a "down" elevator. So, when we were lucky enough to get an "up" elevator to go down, it meant stopping at every floor between 30 and 45 on the way up, and every floor between 45 and 30 on the way down. All this after waiting 20 minutes to get on in the first place.
Plus, the elevator became packed beyond belief -- wanted to cry at some point.
Again, the hotel is wonderful......but, the elevator situation makes it a very unpleasant experience.
They are upfront when you check in (a little late, I think). The notice they give you with your key states you should leave your room at least one hour before showtime due to the elevator situation. Given most of the shows are within 1-2 blocks of the hotel, that gives you some idea of how bad the elevator situation is.

Top Local Tips for New York City
New Year's Eve in Times Square, NY Eve, Ball-drop If you decide to go to NYC last minute for New Year's Eve CALL the hotels directly - ask for their in-house reservations department (otherwise you will be transferred to some reservations call center in India or wherever). The folks can hook you up - if you are willing to spend the $$$.
finding a good restaurant talk to some of the locals and they will advise you of some great restaurants that you would not find out otherwise.
Avoid the Chains Try to avoid the chain restaurants right in Times Square...walk a few blocks and get the real New York experience. Save Applebees for Omaha.
