Great for the price, great staff!!

Best of the cheap places - less than $40! Not having much money, I have stayed here twice a year for a minimum two weeks for over 10yrs! On my first night I was shocked at the size of the room for the price [not used to NYC prices!!!] and state of some of the bathrooms, but the room was clean, NO bedbugs, one or two small cockroaches [zero by NYC standards - seen bigger at friends' houses!] I go to the 99c shops buy hangers, [you could get sheets or mop/broom if you want for 99c]. Sheets are changed weekly on Weds. I always use a sleeping sheet as well [ex youth hosteller - tooooooooo expensive now], be selective about showers/toilets, wear plastic slippers in the showers and wash toilet seat if you want more than a wee/pee, or wait until you can go to a shop/restaurant. The towels are small but clean [or buy your own for 99c], you get soap & the water is always hot. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful, [you receive what you give]. Security is great - you can't get upstairs if they don't know you i.e you're non-resident, & no guests allowed. I am walking disabled and find stairs difficult and sometimes excruciating, but needs must!! [hot showers help a lot!!] but the elevator runs from 8am to midnight except for 1/2 hour about 1030pm, while the guy does the bins. No cooking, but you can get take-aways no problem. Until I win the lottery I'll continue to stay here!!!
You get your own [secure] room for less than a dorm at the Y or youth hostel. The room is just for sleeping, you don't need more than a clean bed. The place is continually being decorated. But I'll be glad if you don't come, so I can always get a room!!!!!!!!!
Soon be there for the 1st of 2 annual trips - can't wait!!
