Clean and Quiet, but a little too secluded
This hotel was small with no particular extras. The rooms are a decent size and well worth the money. The restaurant was closed when we were there, which forced us to go out when we didn't want to out and about. The neighbourhood was off the beaten path and a little scary. The block was kind of dark and littered with trash and homeless people sleeping along the sidewalks. If this hotel was in a better location, I would up the rating to at least 7. I did not like being so far away from everything. If you are looking for a clean hotel that is comfortable with nice rooms and a quiet atmosphere and you don't mind being in a secluded area, then this is your hotel.

Reasonable Value
I spent 4 nights at this property last May and found the hotel to be a reasonable value. On the plus side, it is convenient to Herald Sq and the subway. The lobby was pleasant and the staff friendly. The breakfast bar was decent with good coffee and bagels. I also enjoyed the roof terrace. On the minus side, I had to change rooms due to a non-functioning a/c and was given another room with no a/c at all. Since it was quite warm and the street noise was a problem with the windows open I asked for another room which had a somewhat functional a/c. I should mention that this problem is not unique to this hotel. In my experience, many NYC hotels, even some of the more costly ones have poor ventilation and cooling systems.

Excellent value for money
If coming to New York for a weekend break I can certainly recommend the Hotel Metro. Located in Midtown it is just a stroll away from the subway and Macy's. The rooftop bar is a great place to relax and offers views of the Empire State Building. Although not luxurious the rooms are clean and comfortable and also surprisingly spacious in comparsion with othe New York hotels in this price bracket. The staff are knowledge and friendly. Guests can help themselves to free tea and coffee all day from the library which offers a welcome respite after a hard day shopping. Overall excellent value for money.
