I shouldn't tell people!
I shouldn't tell people, because now the hotel 17 will be booked all the time. But I am thankful. We slept 9 days at Hotel 17 summer 2004 in one big room with our 3 kids - twins one year old and oldest son 4 years old. It was the perfect Hotel for our vacation I New York. Central, nice hotel, nice people, perfect atmosphere. The Hotel was a very important reason, that our stay I NY for ever will be in our minds.

No Frills & Funky
17 is perfect for a trip to the Big Apple where you want to spend your time and money out and about rather on your hotel. 17 is centrally situated with funky but basic rooms. There are no extras but everything you could possibly need - including great coffee - can be bought at any hour around the corner. We had no problems getting into the shared bathroom when we needed it and indeed saw very little of other guests although the hotel was full. The cost was a fraction of what a more 'luxurious' hotel would charge but the hotel's star studded history makes you feel you're doing things how they should be done in Manhattan.

Simply Lovely
We loved it! Clean, quaint, cute with a European flare and we felt totally safe. The clientele average 30 something, young & hip, the staff super helpful and friendly. This place totally met our needs and our budget! We have been recommending it to everyone we know back home and plan to stay there the next time we visit. We just hope not too many people know how great it is, so things don't change for us. We wouldn't change a thing!
