We went to NY for new years eve and our stay in the Hilton Hotel was fab. It was the perfect location as it is close to all the sights/attractions and only a pleasant 5 min walk to central park and times square. The staff were friendly and the room was cleaned every day.

Had a fantastic honeymoon here

My husband and I spent the first 4 days of our honeymoon in NYC in the Hilton. It was our first time in NYC. We had booked an executive room for which we had to check in on a separate floor. On arrival we were very impressed with the service. We were made to feel very welcome. Our room was just big enough and excellent. We loved the modern style and the 42inch plasma TV! We were even more impressed with the bathroom and shower! Inlcuded in our rate we had free breakfast every day and free wine, spirits, beer with food in the evenings. There were even delicious cookies throughout the day. We were very surprised with the short walking distances to most attractions. We only used the subway once to get to Battery Park. We are already planning when we can return and stay here again!

I stayed at the Hilton Hotel on the Avenue of the Americas August 23,2003 to August 26th. We had a wonderful stay...when we arrived, the hotel had overbooked and we were given a room with only a queen sized bed for the three of us women....they brought in a rollaway and as a result of our incon-venience, gave us breakfast coupons for each of us at the hotel's restaurant and promised us a corner room with two queen sized beds the next morning. True to their word, we were moved up 4 floors to the 18th the next morning....the view was not as good as the first one, but the stay was nice...the room was much larger than what I would have expected for New York City from what I had heard from other people. This was my first time in this city and I loved it and want to come back again soon. From this hotel, it was extremely easy to walk to Central Park...3 blocks...we took the horse drawn carriage ride there and the driver pointed out many interesting areas during this time. We walked to Rockefeller Plaza without any difficulty. We made use of the subway system and it was a quick way to reach Battery Park, Chinatown and the Grand Central Station...buying a Metrocard is the best way....can use the bus or subway for the length of time purchased. The one myth that I found totally untrue was that this city is dirty...the streets and all areas were pristine. The other myth was that the people are rude and obnoxious...they were friendly and if you looked lost, they would stop and ask if they could help....they would tell you about where they were on the big blackout and also where they were on 9/11....there were cops everywhere....we took the free Staten Island Ferry and met a couple from Staten Island who pointed out Governor's Island ...interesting facts about the lighthouse and lent us their binoculars for a closer view of the Statue of Liberty and the skyline...getting to the Empire State Building right before the last ride up worked out well...there was no wait and the lights from the city was spectacular...made you wonder just how scary it had to be when the blackout occurred ...visiting the site of the Trade Towers was moving...hard to imagine how such large buildings could have existed there...the Grand Central Station is a gorgeous place...people going so many different directions.....visiting St. Patrick's Cathedral was a real pleasure....the place is beautiful...we were lucky enough to get there to see a Mass in progress. I LOVE New York and can't wait to go back.....and I would highly recommend the Hilton Hotel as a place to stay!

We took a long weekend towards the end of August. Our family consists of two adults and a 9 1/2 year old. We stayed on the Executive level. I highly recommend upgrading to this level if you can. You have a lounge dedicated to these rooms (checkin is on this floor for the Executive level). The rooms are a bit larger with fabulous windows and you receive a cont breakfast in the am and appetizers at nite. The bathroom was spotless with a lovely set of shelves builtin to the wall by the vanity. Location was great! Easy walk to Times Square or Central Park and close to major subway lines! I would stay again!

After reading soooo many reveiws my friend and i decided that basiclly some will love the hotel and others may hate it.So it was time to just pick one and because the rewiews on all the MANY hotels we looked at were sooo different,we decided to let pricline pick our hotel..we knew we were on a buget for our trip to NYC,but we wanted something very nice..seeing that this was my birthday trip.So we selected a 4star hotel on pricline and bid 100.00 a night for our room.To our surprise Hilton Newyork is what we got!!!! A beautiful lobby friendly staff and a hotel room that shocked us.We had bathrobes (thick) in our room waiting on us plus to bottles of water..(free) a great big king size bed...and a to die for large marble bathroom. the room wasnt small like i had read on here about numerous hotels in NYC. to let you know it was one street over from timesquare so it wasnt far to walk at all.We had a famous person right next door to our room who took pictures with us!! This is a great hotel location and the beauty of the hotel...plus the actuk people there who dont go through a discount site to get tickets are paying well over 200.00 a night ..so you are getting a bargin!!!

Stayed a week on our first vacation to NYC. Priceline bid of around $100 a night for a double/double room worked well. Ask for a corner room as those are the biggest on each floor. The Executive Lounge is a good idea espeically if you have a family with you.... good deal for breakfast and snacks in the evening.

I would recommend it for anyone staying on the cheap and wanting something downtown.

I picked the Hilton New York due to it's location and internet discount rate of $149. After reading reviews from previous hotel guests I was a little nervous since I was traveling with 2 small children. However, we had no problems at all. The staff was nice and helpful, the room was clean and nice size and the elevators worked properly. I would stay their again.

We have stayed at the NY Hilton twice and love the location. You are a couple of blocks from Broadway in one direction and a couple off Fifth Avenue shopping in the other. We always felt safe walking especially at night coming back from Broadway Shows. In May we paid extra and stayed in a Executive room - well worth the price. The free continental breakfast was beautifully done in the 44th floor lounge. The evening hordourves were enough for a light dinner. Check in is a breeze also as you just take the elevator up to the 44th floor to check in - no lines.
This is a very large hotel - but using the executive facilities gave it a small hotel atmosphere. Security was also visible - with all side doors locked at night and room key checks at the main entrance for everyone. I would highly recommend this hotel.

My fiance and I live in B'klyn, but decided to spend a night in the city to celebrate our anniversary because we had plans to see a B'Way show. I booked our stay through Priceline and was a bit nervous because I had read so many reviews re: inferior treatment of Priceline guests.
However, we had a great stay. At check-in, we were asked what type of room we wanted and were pleasantly surprised to get a spacious non-smoking king room. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
We did have a minor problem with the TV b/c we ordered the same movie twice and it got cut off both times - customer service immediately took it off our statement when I called them. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend to friends.

My husband and I travel to NYC often as part of our jobs. We prefer the Palace, but got "stuck" at the Hilton because we were reluctantly attending a large conference. Imagine our surprise at how lovely this hotel was. Our stay was lovely, too. I begin to wonder if I stayed at the same hotel as some of the other posters. I am picky, a hotelier's worst nightmare, and I was well pleased.

Our club-level room was spotless, our housekeeping staff warm and above reproach. Never were we greeted with anything less than a sincere "good morning," and the club level lounge was accessible and well stocked. We never once ate breakfast out. The casual restaurant downstairs was wonderful, too, albeit expensive, as one expects in NYC. Only one staff member, our check-out clerk, was less than totally warm and solicitous, and she certainly was not rude.

When I arrived home to find my favorite pajamas missing, a Saturday night call to the housekeeping supervisor got my p.j.s express-mailed, even though I offered to pay the postage. With its tasteful, spotless rooms which interconnect, this is the perfect hotel for families. And while we did not chose this hotel for its location, it was amazingly well placed for touring. My love affair with the Palace may be over. We have already decided to take my mother up for the Christmas show at Radio City Music Hall, just because the hotel was so great.

Give This Hotel a Miss

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and we would not go back. Firstly my husband does a lot of work for Hilton (he works for one of their major suppliers) and is also a Diamond Hilton Honours Member (in the top 2%) so we stay at Hiltons a lot and normally have very good experiences but this was not one of them!

Firstly we had to go up to the executive level to check in which was nice as there were no lines but then had to go downstairs to our room.
Don't be in a hurry to get anywhere in this hotel as they have the slowest elevators ever invented. On average you are waiting 10-15 minutes to get from one floor to another. Our room was nice but was nothing special. The corridors were full of dirty linen piled up all along it which looked terrible and some of it stayed there overnight. I worked as a room attendant in numerous 5 star hotels and if we had left even a dirty towel in the corridor we would have been fired!

Do not get conned into going on their Hilton Club timeshare presentation which they promise you will only take 90 mins and is low pressure and then they give you wonderful gifts at the end of it whether you buy or not. My husband and I went on it and were stuck there for 3 hours and they would not let us leave when we tried to. The salesman was quite pushy towards the end - even downright rude when we let him know we weren't interested in buying into it. He basically laughed when we told him our reasons why and said we would regret not buying into it for the rest of our lives (my husband and I are 30!).
The only thing I will regret for the rest of my life is if I go back to this hotel!

Lastly we had access to their executive lounge being Diamond members but try getting into that at breakfast time or cocktail hour especially when they are serving the free food. It is a free for all and is not monitored at all. You cannot even get a seat! Anyone whether they are Diamond Club or not can come up and get free food and drink. Membership is not checked at the door (as is the norm in other places). When I complained about this I was told there is nothing they can do about it to basically be thankful for what we were getting!

Also the concierge was quite rude and not interested in helping us at all!

Not a good Hilton experience or hotel experience period! I would not go back again.

Top Local Tips for New York City

Dont take a taxi to and from Newark airport we got a train Do not get a taxi to and from Newark airport as the traffic is really congested. You can get a train from Newark airport to Penn Station and then jump on the subway to get to your hotel as there is subway stations everywhere that are quite easy to get around on once you get the hang of it. When heading back for your flight home, leave yourself plenty of time to get the train because Penn Station is massive

Transportation from LaGaurdia Airport If at all possible fly into Newark. Getting into the city from La Gaurdia by anything other than a cab is almost impossible.

City Buses Great But Avoid Street Hawkers A great way to see the city is the Double Decker buses, the shows are great, Central Park is awsome and the city is alive. Keep clear of street hawkers and avoid eye contact with them, they will spot you out a mile and hound you like dogs up and down teh street to buy fake bags and fake rolex's
