Very Nice , Good for a night.

We had just finished skiing in Stowe and had stayed at the Northern Lights Lodge For A Week. Me and the pupils went to New York for 2 days and 1 night. We stayed at the Edison Hotel. We had 2 double beds and a chair with a foot stool. The bathroom was quite small with definitely only one person at a time. The television was large and so was our dressing table, however we had no space to hang our clothes as the tele was in the wardrobe! The restaurant where we had our breakfast was quite shabby and really let down the hotel. I couldn't eat the food as they didn't have anything in apart from cheese toast! Times Square was only literally under a minutes walk from our hotel. Our room did not have an appealing view; offices in the way of all the view , all I could see was the street below. But for a 12 year old, this was a good stay, just for a night!

The look from outside is very bad - very dirty and dark street. Hotel smells all through - not sure what is that - maybe too old? Elevators very small - but not slow at all. Rooms - oh my God! So small, smelly and dark... Bathrooms even worst... Toilet paper behind the poth, so you cant reach it and the lid is not letting you get the paper.. haha :) Funny but disturbing!
The view - haha - even worst! Another ugly building just next to you... actually two building as we were in the corner. We had to call and change the room. They were not that friendly but gave us another room (with a next call, first person said they dont have another room!). That room's view was even WORST! Half of the window had some constructions so you could see just a bit of sky. So dark. Ugly small "double" bed. We changed the previous room back right away, lol. Well.. its cheap.. so what do I expected... They even didnt help to bring the suitcases up - I guess the elevators too small :) Room didnt had the towels. Had to ask twice. No breakfast.. but thank God. Wouldn't eat there!

The hotel was very dark and not nice at all. The room were so small with bad smell all over and the view from the window was horrible. We asked to change the room and got an answer: "No rooms available!" So I called again and got another lady who gave us another room. We went to that room and it was even worst! The view was hiding some constructions and we could see only a little bit of sky. We went back to the previous room, of course. Bathrooms quite small and uncomfortable.

I went to NYC with my mum for 5 days --- we had reserved a room into the Hotel Edison and arrived there at around 7:30 pm. Staff were very helpful, and our (really cool) room cards were given to us straight away. Admittedly, the room was a little on the small side, and mum and I did have to share a double bed, but for a short holiday, when being out for the majority of the day, it was ideal.Had a small problem with the bathroom, because the shower head squirted in every direction at times, but was resolved quickley. wake up in the morning, head down the cafe to get a takeaway english muffins and tea, eat in bed, Bliss! 30 second walk from entrance hall, and you are on Broadway and Times Square. Indescribable. Perfect hotel, and throughly enjoyed my stay there.... altjough I am only 16, I'm not stupid, and do know the standards of hotels!!!

I would never stay here again, the staff were unhelpful, the rooms were horrid but were cleaned daily. When you enter the edison it has a weird smell and it lingers all the way through. The diner within the hotel I would not eat in there again. The only good thing I can say is your right in the thick of the action time square is a 1 minute walk but apart from that don`t waste your money

Front desk personnel were not interested in assisting; my room was drab, dark and small, not at all like the photos the hotel has on the internet. Very disappointed. The a/c didn't work and I had to contact the front desk 3 times before I could get another room, and this was in July in NYC!!!

Rooms clean, quiet and comfortable. Reception desk staff always helpful and friendly. Ideally located within walking distance to most things. Myself(59) and my daughter (24) never once felt apprehensive or intimidated in the area. We hope to come to Manhattan again very soon and the Hotel Edison will be 1st choice.

We spend 4 nights at the Edison for St Patrick's Day in March 2005. You can't beat the location for the price; everything is on the doorstep or within walking distance. The room is clean, spacious and quiet.
Brilliant break in a great city.

My wife and I have been coming to the Edison for years. To us, it possesses ambiance and charm that just can't be found in many other hotels. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the prices are great, and one of our favorite events is breakfast in the lobby level cafe. Another is a traditional evening drink in Sophias. Also, if you love the theatre district (many of the shows are within just 3-4 blocks - why fight for a cab), the hustle and bustle of Times Square, and dining with the celebs on restaurant row, there is no other place to be. We recommend it to all of our friends.

The personnel was very friendly. The room nice and clean and quiet. We liked the kind of "old traditional" atmosphere of the place. The deli was great! And the situation absolutely PERFECT! If I have to mention some negative that is the elevators that didn't quite operate properly (some of them were out of order?)

I took my daughters to New York City to celebrate a 50th birthday on Oct 2. We were gone for 6 days and stayed at the Hotel Edison. Was a wonderful location in the heart of the theater district. Beautiful sunny weather and no long lines. We had lunch at the Firebird on 46th st. Elegant, exquisite service by Sherry ( who has an October birthday the same as my Sherri) and a delicious lunch and DESSERT to "die for". We saw 4 shows, NY Philharmonic, cruise to Ellis Is and Statute of Liberty. The Twin Tower Sphere in Battery Park,( reminder of 'the day the world changed'), Chinatown, the city in lights from the revolving restaurant in the Marriott, etc. I would recomment this trip for any Mom and daughters. We LOVED NEW YORK!!

My husband and I were taking two college age children on a vacation in New York on a rather tight budget. We wanted something nice for a reasonable amount of money. We researched the Edison and read lots of great reviews. And everyone was right. It's a great place. Rooms are a tad small but nice and clean and that was the main thing. It's in the heart of Times Square and close to everything. We also felt safe. We will definitely stay there again. Loved it.

The Edison hotel proved to be perfect for a visiting location. Very clean, efficent, although small (as are all NYC rooms). Discount Bdway ticket booth right across street as well as reasonable pricing on rooms, and the cafe and downstairs bar. Concierge was helpful but could have been more knowledgable and prepared (with items such as sewing kits, safety pins, etc.) but overall very pleasant. They were even accomodating when I was forced to check out over two hours late! In general if you are looking for a clean budget hotel that can not be beat for location as well as ambiance, this NYC location might be for you.

Great location, very clean, good cafe in lobby, bar is cozy and dark, the service was great too, the rooms are a bit cramped, but functionable. The lobby is really nice and art deco, if you notice.Service was excellent, I`ve been to 4/5 stars with alot worse staff than the Edison.All around a great place.PS, the bar is seen in the Godfather movie as the location of Luca Brazzis "Hit"!

Spent a week here and wasn't terribly impressed. The lobby creates a nice first impression but that only set me up for a major disappointment when I got up to the room.

Everything was very dated and shoddy looking with that nasty old musty smell. It was clean though. Tried for a snack in the cafe which was disgusting and never tried it again.

It's a great location but I'm sure that there are other hotels in the same area for the same money which are less shoddy. It's fine if you're stuck but I'm sure you could do better.

I just returned from a weeklong trip to New York where I stayed at the Edison. This is definitely a bargain if you want to stay in the Times Square area. There is very easy access to subways, theaters, restaurants, and shops. The room I stayed in was just fine with absolutely no problems. The lobby staff was very helpful when I needed directions. There is security in the lobby, a nice gift shop, a nice restaurant, a piano bar and breakfast in the Edison Cafe was fantastic. There is also a workout facility on the top floor, not very well advertised but it is a very nice facility. Overall it was a great place and I will definitely stay there again the next time I visit New York.

Great location in Times Square. Close to theatres. Faciclities are OK. The rooms are a bit dated. Water for shower took ages to heat up. A lot of noise from the street between 1.00 to 3.00 am on some nights - when refuse trucks were picking up rubbish from the office block on the opposite side of the street. Would stay there again if I could choose a room in a quieter part of the hotel.

I stayed at the Edison for a weekend. The location was great, it would have been even better had I took in a show. Very close to subway system. We stayed on the 4th floor. Our room had 2 single beds, large closet, desk and bath/shower. The room was a little small, but in NY that's to be expected. It was fairly clean the hotel rates were fair. During our stay on Fri & Sat nights there was very loud "thumping music" coming from a nearby club. The walls were pounding. I thought it was just our room, however I heard another guest who was on the 2nd floor complaining of the music. It may have been the location of where our room faced. I would stay there again, maybe on a higher floor.

Top Local Tips for New York City

Take advantage of the Coach USA The 48-hour bus "pass" is a great way to see all of the "island" - bus stops are everywhere (14 stops on the "lower Manhattan" tour alone!) and even include a 2-hour night time "city lights" tour! A great way to see the sites along with expert commentary and little-known facts! Take advantage of the online discounted price (ours was $10 off) or buy one at any bus station.

Macys You have to visit Macys! There are so many bargains, and if you are a visitor, get out of the elevator on the 1 1/2 floor and if you go to the left there is a visitor centre and you can get an 11% discount card for all purchases in the store, just make sure a member of your group has ID. The prices are great anyway, I got a pair of Levi's for fifteen quid! You can also get one of those 11% cards in Bloomingdales. Well worth it!!!! :D

Empire State Building For those thinking of visiting this building once make the effort and visit twice both day and night the experiences are entirely different and superb. Views at day and night are spectacular and are both different in their own right. We visited late at night 10pm and early in the morning at 9am and there were no queues, also purchase tickets on-line this is easy to do and will save you time.
