Historical Traveller Reviews of Eastgate Tower Suites Hotel
a good choice
from nycloverFor 3 nights, a spacious one bedroom suite cost only 625 dollars including taxes. After spending a lot of money in the city, an inexpensive hotel is a bonus when all is said and done. The rooms were a little dreary but perfect for a family that needs a lot of room to spread out. There was also very little street noise or noise from other guests. I was able to sleep quite comfortably and feel safe and secure.
The location is good although a bit of a hike to fifth avenue but perfectly situated between up and downtown and Grand Central. A straight run down to the east village and Union Square also. A good choice all in all!
Fantastic
from bostock22Excellent Find!
from A TripAdvisor MemberSo-so hotel
from A TripAdvisor MemberWe stayed on the 3rd floor in a room which didn't look out over the road, so no noise problems there.
Unfortunately, the walls are very thin - amongst other things, you can hear water running and toilets flushing from the room next door. The room itself was large and spacious, but it did smell a little musty despite being on a non-smoking floor.
The staff are very friendly and well informed. As stated in previous reviews, they are happy to arrange a late checkout even when the hotel is full.
Overall, not a bad place to stay, but nothing special.
Okay
from PopotaNicely located.
Top Notch Service
from A TripAdvisor MemberI liked the fact that we were allowed a late checkout due to our train leaving Grand Central at 3PM. Great location too and yes Sarge's Deli down the street makes great sandwiches and there is a nice bakery on the corner that makes wonderful danishes and coffee. I would sit there every morning and watch the New Yorkers bustle off to work. I miss those mornings. Will be staying at Eastgate on my next visit. Thanks to the people who posted their reviews here for tipping me to this fine hotel!
Fantastico!
from A TripAdvisor MemberWhen we returned we found they had been washed and dried up for us! A small thing, but it is the details like this that can really enhance a place's reputation. The location is great also, especially if you are in town for a good old trawl around the shops, an easy walk and you are at 42nd Street, Macy's, etc. Little tip, but if you go to Macy's, go to floor 1 & 1/2, to the customer centre, tell them you are a tourist intending to shop, and you will be given a card that gives 11% off all goods! Bargain city! Once again, I can only recommend the Eastgate, a great place to stay in NYC!
Best value in NYC
from A TripAdvisor MemberLoved having the parking garage adjacent.. safe area.Staff was kind and attentive...something else unusual in a hotel in NYC..we will be back
Loved It, Loved It, Loved It!!!
from aishamIn the other room there was a table for two for us to eat at which could also double as a desk. There was plenty of closet (3 closets) space and drawer space. There was a couch directly opposite our King Sized Bed which pulled out to a Queen Sized sofa bed. The room also had a 19 inch color TV and you are given the option of playing Playstation games through the television (for an hourly rate), ordering pay per view movies, and paying to access the jukebox through the television.
There are a few interactive features on the television, one of which allows you to view your bill and checkout through the tv.
We ordered room service from the restaurant in the hotel and the food is delicious. They specialize in Italian food and we ordered around 8 PM and had our dinner in 15 minutes. There is a menu for room service and for breakfast from a diner nearby. You can get breakfast almost as quickly as the room service dinner when you order. Breakfast was great too! a good tip: When you order breakfast ask them to send you a menu because they have great food! You might want to ask the front desk for menus to nearby restaurants too. One of the places that has great food is Sarge's.
The room had great decor and, the bathroom was nice and clean and the hotel provides you with their own conditioner shampoo, mouthwash, body wash, and moisturizer. The soap that they provide smells heavenly. Even better than some of the soaps that I've used at the larger more expensive hotels. It smells like there's Eucalyptus oil in it.
My husband and I added a few of the romance specials to our room. The first night we had champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and we had the rose petal turndown. We had asked for this to be in the room upon arrival but there was a slight mixup with the time. I called down to the front desk letting them know what time we would be going out and when we came back rose a trail of rose petals led from the door to the bed, our sheets were turned down, and rose petals were scattered on the bed in the shape of a heart and a long stem red rose with baby's breath and palm was placed in the center of the heart.
The staff is very accomodating and helpful. Check-out is at 12 Noon but they are willing to make arrangements if you would like to check out at a later time. We checked out at 2PM.
Grand Central Station is within walking distance of the hotel and there are a lot of great stores as well as supermarkets in the area. There are a few liquor stores and banks as well.
If you want to stay at a place that will feel like home, try the Eastgate. We will definitely be staying there again. We also would ike to try some of the other Affinia properties.
Extremely comfortable hotel, excellent for sightseeing
from Breck_newbieThe staff kindly let us store our suitcases all day and pre-booked us a taxi to the airport. Overall this hotel is excellent value for money and a particularly good base for seeing the sights of New York.
Top Local Tips for New York City
Macy's Enter Macy's go to the 2nd floor Vistors centre for a 11% discount card, note you will need your passport.
Walking around New York Don't stress about the city and the fact that it's so big. Just find a nice area, don't make too much of big agenda, and walk around for a few hours. Everything is easier to deal with on foot, and you see a lot more than just whizzing by in a bus/cab/car.
Macys and Bloomingdales Go to the visitors centre to get your tax discount voucher. You will need to show your passport but it is worth the saving and in Bloomingdales you get a free gift if you spend $100. I got a nice shopping bag

The Rooms (Junior Suite)was spacious and comfortable although the furnishing and decor is rather dated.
The fitness centre was small and dated but well maintained.
The price was reasonable although on a par with some better equipped and furnished Hotels.
Found the restaurant menu limited and they did not do breakfast. There ,are, however, many places doing breakfast within walking distance.
