Great Location

For the price I paid ($109), it couldn't be beat. Of course, that may have been a special price. (I think they had just opened). At least the rooms were clean and the location was fantastic. I was there for only two nights, to go to the theatre and visit with relatives in Brooklyn. Great location for both, and the neighborhood was no problem to me--even at my age and single female. I'd stay again.

Days Inn is the worst hotel I have ever seen in my life, when you watch programmes on holidays from hell you think that places like this do not exist, well Days Inn is an example that they really do. The rooms have connecting doors so people from the next room can enter your room as and when they when they want to (this happened to me), the rooms, lobby and rest rooms are vile, the staff are rude beyond imagination, for example, the toilet in our room broke so i rang reception to ask them to fix it and was offered a plunger!!!! The bed sheets were not clean when we got there and were not changed whilst we were there even though we repeatedly ask them to do so. My advice to any one considering Days Inn is don't bother it's not the money or the bother.
Bed Bugs and Thin Walls

Don't stay at this hotel. Walls are paper thin and I spent 4 nights waking up to couples screaming in the room next to me (to be fair it was Valentines Day weekend). I got home and had bites all over my body and a couple of the lovely critters were nice enough to follow me home and infest my bed. They are a pain to get rid of, if you even ever really can. I would highly suggest you don't stay at this hotel.

Finally they are renovating, but I and my girlfriend stayed at this hotel a year ago and had starnge bite marks all ove rmy body. Complained to night staff and was told of their"bed bug{" problem. Doctor confirmed it when I arrived home from trip. Wrote letters to company aswell,, no respnse. They do not seem to be a place where clean and civilized folk should stay.

Nice hotel, it was a pity; I ask and booked a smoking room. At arrival there were no smoking rooms. Desk promised to give a smoking room the other day. There was'nt. Nice hotel in the centre of NY. Fire Department as neighbour; it did not matter. Nice street; we enjoyed.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Days Inn New York City Hotel

Very Pleased!

from A TripAdvisor Member
My friend and I had a very hard time finding a decent affordable hotel during our 1 week stay in New York. Our research told us that we would be paying a small fortune for anything that was remotely clean and was bigger than the size of a closet. Needless to say we weren't really expecting much more than the basics but were pleasantly surprised to say the least when we checked in. The hotel was just undergoing renovations so things were a bit upside down in certain areas but it was very clean, spacious, had a brand new microwave, Plasma TV and fairly nice decor. There was a Starbucks and Subway Station on the corner, the tour center was located across the street, Time Square a block away, walking distance to all the great shopping on 5th Avenue and Central Park. The hotel even had a decent restaurant. We really couldnt ask for more in this price range for NY. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

excellent choice

from Ellsmod
we spent the thanksgiving weekend and more (6 nights) at this hotel. it was wonderfull. everything in the rooms is new- large lcd TV, great king size bed, great ergonomic chair- all amenities were great.
the location is fabulous- a block from times square, subway and everything close by- walking to all broadway shows etc.
highly recommended.

Garden Hilton Saved Our Trip

from jvgregistered
I got a great deal on a airfare to NYC. I had been to NYC twice right after 9-11 and the room rates in NYC were about 80-125 on average. I booked at a hotel from online at about $100 a night once there I relized I had been had. Avoid the Carter Hotel..

I began searching on foot at most of the hotels in the area. Last min. mind you. I walked into the Garden Hilton to find their rates about 100-250 less than others in the area. I got the room for the two nights right away. The room was fantastic, clean, mini refridg and coffee maker were perfect for reheating the night before take home left overs and having lunch. Quiet and friendly, great decor and upscale feel....

Thanks for saving the trip,

Great for a family stay

we stayed at the hotel for three nights the week after thanksgiving. we have a 15-month-old daughter and were a little worried if this hotel will accommodate our specific needs. it was really amazing: the crib was in the room when we arrived, the room was spacious and everything was clean and brand new. it had a fridge and a microwave, so it really worked out well with the baby. people were very helpful and nice, and altogether it was an excellent choice. we got a good rate with a AAA discount (well, is $250 a night a good deal in NYC during holiday season? i guess it is...), and would definitely stay there again.

Thanksgiving Family Vacation at the Hilton

from BAL1203
My family and I enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at the New York Hilton. Yes, as previous posters have remarked, it does have a bit of a corporate feel to it due to its size. However, our room was very well appointed, clean and you can't beat the location....about half way between Times Square and Central Park. The staff went out of their way to accomodate us and to go the extra mile. I would recommend this hotel to families spending time in NYC.

Great Hotel Great Location

Stayed here in November for 5 nights. I was worried about some of the comments, but these were totally unjustified. Hotel has been completely refurbished. Our room was large, very comfortable, extremely comfortable bed, very clean and everything was new. Concierge really helpful in booking our helicopter flights. Never stayed in New York before so cannot really compare with other hotels, but after reading reviews on other hotels I think we definitely picked one of the best for the price. Would definitely stay there again.

Hotel restaurant

from macabr
My daughter and I stayed there the last weekend in October. The room was grossly overpriced; apparently there was a large convention in town. I have paid less than the nearly 400.00 per night I paid at the Garden Inn when I have stayed at the Waldorf, the Millenium, the Hilton New York and the Roosevelt but none had a restaurant to compare to the Garden Inn.

Over the course of the weekend, we had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel. The food is exceellent and the prices were reasonable. We had a late dinner there on Saturday night and it was clear that most of the diners were people who live in New York City rather than just those staying at the hotel.

The restaurant can be loud and the tables are tight but the food and the service are excellent.

Considering the convenience and the location, I will definitely stay there again if the room rate is more reasonable. If the room is too costly, I'll go there for dinner.

Perfect location!

from SP SCOT
Just returned from the `big apple` for the 1st time, stayed 4 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel, the location could not have been any better, leave hotel, walk only 1 block and you are in Times Square, wow fantastic, very reasonably priced hotel, rooms perfectly clean and tidy, clean bathroom, fresh towels every day, to be smack bang in the middle of midtown for this price was an absolute bargain!!!!!!

Great hotel and even greater location!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel appears to be totally renovated now and is the best bargain I've seen in Manhattan. It was clean, comfortable, safe, and the staff was very accomodating. We did have a problem with our toilet and were relocated to a different room and were given a 20% discount off our total room rate. A terrific savings for very little inconvenience. The location is great...easy walking distance to theaters, Times Square, and the subway. There is a fire station in the next block which was a bit noisey if you left the window open. They also have two computers with free internet access in the lobby. I never had to wait to use them. This is the best hotel I've stayed in in Manhattan for the money. I'll definetly stay here again!

Nice hotel at a nice price

from Yorkieboy
We got rooms at $160 a night and that is fantastic value. Very helpful staff, nice clean bright lobby with comfy chairs, sofas and TV.

Good size rooms, good beds, clean and OK size marble bathrooms - again very clean. Really you could not get better value and unless you are too rich to care or are one of those people who wants to spend a lot of daylight hours in your hotel I cannot see why you would stay elsewhere in midtown. The location is excellent.

The only minor comment - it can hardly be a criticism - is that there is a fire station half a block a way and those guys just love to crank up their sirens no matter what the time of day or night.

Top Local Tips for New York City

Don't bring a stroller on the subway If you are traveling with a infant/child in Manhattan, don't bother bringing a stroller on the subway. Most stations are not stoller accessible and even if they are, the subways are so packed that it's really hard to get on the train with a stroller.

Subway Use the subway, it is no different to the london underground and it is all part of New York. Plus it is $2 to get to anywhere and it's really easy to understand and I travelled on it on my own to meet friends and it was fine.

Ice Skating Ice Skate in Central Park rather than the Rockerfeller Centre. It's cheaper, nore romantic and you do not have to queue.
