THe Casablanca has an amazing location just off Times Square and the little hotel is as pretty as can be, but what makes it GREAT is the staff who make you feel so at home and looked after like the guys front desk to the ladies in the club room. We liked the complimentary breakfast but we really loved the 3 hour wine and cheese reception each evening. We met a lot of guests who come back tothe Casablanca again every year. This hotel is not cheap but they really provide a great deal of value. We will be back!

A quiet and lovely place among the trees of Time Square.

As a frequent visitor to New York City(once a year, We found the Casablanca an oasis in the heart of NYC. The convenient location makes it even more enjoyable. The staff is attentive and courteous, the rooms are well cared for and the ambience very attractive. The breakfast and lounge area on the second floor is unique to our travel and we think it is an outstanding feature.

Comfortable, Safe and Convenient

Three friends and I have stayed at the Casablanca for the past three years on our annual trip to NYC. Not only do we find the accommodations comfortable, we feel safe in this convenient, busy location. The staff creates a very caring atmosphere and have always been most anxious to meet our needs--going the extra mile to accommodate. We especially enjoy returning to the hotel after a show and having an evening snack as we play scrabble in the lounge area. I know of no place I had rather stay.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in 2004. The hotel is excellently located near Time Square - perfect for both visits uptown and downtown. The rooms were clean - not particularly luxurious or spacious but excellent value for the standard. Ricks Cafe, located in the hotel, was a great spot to have buffet breakfast (excellent) and the complementary cocktail reception. Highly recommend this hotel.

Wonderful stay at the Casablanca

I stayed at the Casablanca Hotel in late March. The service could not have been better. The front desk staff was especially friendly and helpful for restaurant ideas and even helped to package a Broadway show poster for me to take on my flight home. The room was small but clean and the bathroom had all the necessary ammenities. The breakfast offered a good variety and wine was enjoyed later too. And Tony DiNapoli's restaurant next door is very convenient and the food was great. Try the blood orange martinis there -- excellent!

Great Service and location

Stayed 5 nights over the leap year 2004 for 5 nights. Very impressed with this hotel. The best feature was the standard of service by the staff, very welcoming and gave some great recommendations for food - eg Ruby Foos. The location was excellent and the italian next door was excellent and very cheap, convient when jetlagged etc. The lounge with complimentary wine was great and even after a night out, you can help yourself to a cappacino and an oreo cookie or two.... Only downside the size of the room/bathroom - but from what I understand that is usual in NYC. Highly recommend this hotel

We were there for five nights at the end of March. The central location for shows and seeing the sights is a big plus, but better was the hospitality we received from the courteous and helpful staff. And we appreciated the lounge and the chance to relax with other guests, to share experiences over a glass of wine.

Obviously has an overbooking problem

Don't count on actually staying here, even if you have a confirmed reservation! Based on a previous review and our own recent experience, it appears this hotel regularly overbooks. What made this especially galling is that we had received a phone call from the Casablanca management the day before we arrived, to confirm that we would be coming for a four-night stay (3/27/04-3/31/04). Yet when we showed up at 5:00 pm to check in, we were told we did not have a room and fed a ridiculous and obviously invented story about a roof leak causing our room to be unavailable. (Suspiciously enough, they insisted the "roof leak" would be a problem only for Saturday and Sunday nights. They were absolutely certain it would be fixed for the last two nights of our stay -- the obviously less-in-demand Monday and Tuesday night.) They packed us off to the Royalton, right around the corner, and paid the difference in room rate for the first two nights, but they expected us to come back to the Casablanca for the last two nights. Talk about inconvenient. In any case we loved the Royalton and decided to stay there for our entire stay, even though we had to pay substantially more for the last two nights. Everything about the relocation made the trip much more expensive. For instance, the Casablanca includes free continental breakfast and free afternoon wine and snacks, while the hotel they substituted charges $21 for continental breakfast and a minimum of $10 for a glass of wine. Also, the Casablanca has free high-speed Internet access, while the substituted hotel charges $10 a night. Had we been on a tight budget, this experience would have been absolutely infuriating. Fortunately we could afford it. But we'll never book the Casablanca again.

great place to stay

We just spent 4 nights at the casa and enjoyed it very much. The staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was a good time saver and the 2nd floor lounge handy for relaxing out of the room. The best part...free wine after a busy day of walking about. The rooms are nice too! Thank you all for a fabulous stay!!!

This was the perfect Hotel for our first visit to NYC. The Service is excellent, the location is great, the rooms are small but very nice and clean. We would highly recommend this Hotel!

We had a wonderful stay here - yes, the rooms are SMALL, but if you're in New York, all you need a room for is sleeping - if ever!! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed the relaxation in Rick's Cafe on the 2nd floor, with coffee and nibbles when you come in from shopping, walking, sightseeing. The Casablanca is bang smack in the middle of everything, Times Square, 5th Avenue, restaurants, pubs - brilliant!! We'll be recommending this to our friends.

Wonderful Birthday

I took my husband and 7 friends to this hotel to celebrate his 40th birthday in New York and this hotel certainly helped to make his stay memorable. The rooms are small but extremely clean and comfortable and perhaps have even too much furniture for the sake of a bigger bed. The service was one of the finest examples I have ever received - the front desk couldnt do enough for us and the ambience is relaxing and friendly. The location is fantastic - couldnt fault this place - would go back again without any hesitatation. Thank you for helping to make this celebration so wonderful.

What a disappointment

What a disappointment - in every regard. For a Christmas gift, I bought my parents tickets to a play and Saturday night at the Casablanca hotel. I chose this hotel because it was a great location - and the rooms and accomodations looked special - which I wanted them to have.
The room was booked in December - indicating that the cancellation policy was cancel at least 1 day before day of arrival. Their trip was for Valentines day evening. On the day before, the hotel called MY home and left a somewhat threatening message - if I didn't call to confirm before 7:30 the night before - the room would be re-booked. I was out of town for the weekend already and didn't get the message until 3 days later.

I reluctantly called my parents to find out about their horrible treatment - they were assured that the guests who were booked for Friday night refused to leave - and they can't kick them out. If that was the case, why did they leave a message the day before saying if we didn't confirm, we would be cancelled? Their solution? They sent my parents to Hotel 41 - which was a much lower quality hotel - which they didn't enjoy at all. To boot, they charged my parents the rate that I agreed to pay for the Casablanca hotel - which is much higher than the dumpy hotel they stayed at.

When I called the manager - I was assured that the bill would be credited. However - my parents just received the bill with no credit. I faxed the hotel and received no reply.

What a disappointing evening all together - thanks to the Casablanca hotel.

Our family has stayed at the Casablanca Hotel many times. We have never been disappointed with it! First, it's got location; free spending visitors adore everything from the souvenir shops, eclectic restaurants, bars to the enormous billboards of Victorias Secret models to the latest mega-musical. It is incredibly convenient. The rooms are good sized & the staff is SUPER nice. We love this place.

Top Local Tips for New York City

Birdland Jazz Club This has to be one of the best bargains in New York. For what it would cost you for a movie ticket, popcorn, and Coke, you can go here and be enchanted by the music from musicians who are top-quality. It is in walking distance to the Casablanca. What a treat to recently hear Stefano Bollani and Enrico Rava, two international stars. To be sitting in the Birdland, just a few feet away from Bollani, who sold out his last Rome performance at the Auditorium (like our Lincoln Center) and had 6 standing ovations...this just can't happen at any other venue! Dinner at the Birdland was good, too.

the subway use it - it was far quicker than trying to get around in a taxi (the streets were really busy) and only 2 dollars to where ever you wanted to go in manhattan!

Travel, Sports events, Shopping, public transport, threatre When you arrive in New York do NOT get a taxi with anyone apart from a yellow cab, you will be asked by many indivduals as you come out of arrivals if you want a taxi, just ignore them and go to the taxi rank. There is a information desk just as you come out of arrivals.A taxi to New York city will cost you $60 but his includes a tip. If you want to see a sports event at Madison Square Gardens book tickets before you leave as we found nothing was available and the touts wanted silly money! We saw Mary Poppins at the Amsterdam Threatre but booked this well in advance from the U.K. This was a fantastic show and would recommend it to anyone young or old. We used the subway (7 day pass for $25 - unlimited) and occassional taxis which were also very cheap compared to the U.K average price $7.00 within the city. Shopping - make sure you go to Macys as we spent most of our money here and found loads of bargains!
