Rodents in the Rooms!!!

During my stay at this hotel, there was a HUGE rat in my room. I purchased a Reeses candy bar, took a nap, and awoke to the sound of it being eaten by a rat. The rat ran across the room when I stood up on my bed and it was HUGE. I informed the front desk and stood in sheer terror on the hotel bed for almost 40 minutes. I complained at the front desk and my complaint was basically ignored by the condescending latina receptionist. I was still charged for the night and put off when asked to speak with the manager. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. The service was poor and the fact that there was a rat clearly spells out the quality of this hotel and stands as physical reminder of the quality of service.

The hotel was great for us! We were there when the transit strike hit, but we were still able to see much of what we wanted...just a lot of extra walking. The room was very good size, clean and comfortable, except that it was hot( in December). I asked for a fan and got one the same day and the rest of our stay was great! The biggest disappointment was the price for a breakfast buffet...consisting of bread and rolls...but the room had a fridge and we saved money by buying cereal and milk for the entire time we were there. We would definitely stay again! Oh, yes the water pressure and temp were perfect!

This hotel is horrible!

Not only were the staff rude at every step of the check-in and check-out processes, but they gave our room away in the middle of the night to other guests! We had strangers come into our room at 3:30 in the morning because the front desk thought the room was vacant! The rooms were tiny, the parking is expensive, and the hotel bell desk is rude and disrespectful.

We liked this hotel. Great location and friendly staff. Room was smallish but what do you expect, particularly for the price. We have stayed in a lot worse. We would recommend.

Loved it and the price, couldn't have asked for better accomodations on the cheap! Right at 48th and Broadway, we went all over the city from there and enjoyed the theater's in our front yard! Yay Spamalot! Love our location in historic downtown Charleston South Carolina too!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your hotel. It was located to many shops that we had to visit and buy goods from and the theatre district was within walking distance. Thank you for a pleasant stay and we hope to visit again.

we paid 800 quid for 4 nights to stay here, supposedly the hotel has had a massive refurb, the designer must have had his eyes closed !! the rooms are tiny, no curtains just blind which let the light in. the hotel is so warm its uncomfortable and has lifts which go at a snails pace and people are permanently waiting for. the only good thing is its location which is ten paces from times square. New York is fabulous, but unfortunately the best western isnt.

Great Hotel for the price- location, clean, service, ammentities

My basic queen bedroom is clean, modern, but very small. The bed is very soft which I like, the bathroom is visibly clean, small but has a slight musty odor. The hotel is located VERY close to time square. the lobby is very stylish, the staff is friendly and overall it has the appearance of a modern boutique hotel. If you are traveling for business or pleasure I recommend this hotel, but recommend staying in a room that is upgraded from the standard queen room Its very small, but ok for 1 person. The hallways are dark purple which makes them look dark I think a better color choice would liven them up. The staff has been helpful with my basic questions and I would absolutely stay here again. Great hotel for the price. I definitely feel like I got a deal! The pictures online show a room with bright purple wallpaper on the ceiling, my room does not have any wallpaper on the ceiling and I am thankful. Its much better in person. I really love the lobby its very trendy.

We stayed here in October, 2009. They had just finished re-doing the whole hotel. The hotel was incredible! If you like funky & unique places - this is a great place to stay. The lobby is fun just to sit and look at all the decorations. We arrived early - and they held our bags for us while we walked around the city (locked them up, and gave us a receipt to hold onto). The hotel room was small - but very clean - nice TV, funky Presidential art, clean bathroom. The bed's actually don't have comforter - which confused us, we asked an employee about it - they say they do that to keep the bed cleaner (aka, no bed bugs) - which was fine with us! The location couldn't have been better - right in Time's Square, and close to lots of subway stops. Felt perfectly safe there too. They also were kind enough to hold onto our luggage after we checked out for about 5 hours. Very pleased with our stay. Definitely not a typical Best Western!

It made my stay in New York

My husband and I have been coming here once, sometimes twice a year for the past 6-7 years. Can there be a better recommendation? (This trip I was alone but very comfortable on my own in this hotel). It is super-centrally located, you can walk to most places, or be within a block or two of major bus and subway lines. Many great coffee shops and restaurants nearby, as are all the theaters. Staff is very friendly, I love seeing Trisha's smiling face at Reception (and have her recognize us when we arrive!!). This visit I thought for a moment I had walked into the wrong hotel lobby - total renovation - the rooms too. Looks great. Would I recommend it? You bet - and I have - many times.

Great Hotel Retro Look

First off let me start with how nice this hotel looks after all the renovations. It is one of my favorite new looks for a Mid-Town hotel. My wife and I only live about an hour away but our daughter goes to school in the city so we come to New York to visit, stay over and take her to some Broadway plays and restaurants. We like to make it an at home vacation so we treat ourselves and try different hotels throughout the city. When we walked into the president hotel we were taken back by the lobby they have a huge fish tank behind the front desk and a TV that you couldn't believe. The decor was beautifully executed (whoever designed this place deserves a medal) it is one of those you have to see it to believe it type places.

From the moment we walked into the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff the doorman quickly picked up my wife’s bag and brought us to the front desk where a very nice young lady proceeded to check us in. we got to the city pretty early but we were still able to get into our room(which was great). After we got settled in to the room we went down to the lobby to ask for ideas on what to do that night the manager on duty (William) just happened to be in the elevator with us and asked us how are stay has been we told him we had just arrived and were looking for some ideas on where to eat and what we should do for the evening. He suggested we try this Italian restaurant called Becco and man what a great place that was. It is a little off the beaten path and if he didn't tell us about it we probably would never have even known it was there. All and all this was a great trip into the city and we will defiantly stay there again (probably many times because my daughter is only a sophomore). I wish I could remember everyone’s name the girl behind the desk very nice short and blond and the doorman (I know it started with a Q) and William the manager.

Mixed bag - but would stay again under certain circumstances

First let me say I was pretty concerned reading the bad reviews. I went into it with open eyes and low expectations. I reserved a Junior Suite because it had a king bed and a queen size pullout couch, so it comfortably fit my group. The renovations are pretty. A trippy Euro small lobby with computer + printer for your boarding pass needs, narrow wallpapered hallways, bright white room with flat screen TV and kitschy accessories.

The bathroom in our suite was huge with a soaking tub, but the separate shower was cramped. We were on the 8th floor and there is a busy fire department nearby FYI. I would recommend bringing ear plugs. The first morning I noticed the nighttime noise, but after walking around town the rest of my vacation I didn't have any problems sleeping soundly thereafter.

Location is superb as others have noted. Not only are you close to Times Square, but you are also close to Hell's Kitchen and lots of great restaurants. There is a subway nearby too (49th St) and a Starbucks around the corner.

Front desk was helpful when needed. I was puzzled Saturday though. I noticed our bath towels were replenished but no hand or face towels. I pressed the housekeeping button to call and got voicemail, "You have reached Housekeeping. Our hours are M-F 8-5. Please leave a message." What the what?? Also the bath towels had a funky smell. They were clean; I'm just sensitive to smells I guess. Silly.

The rest of my party was pleased with the hotel choice. Not totally up to Best Western standards compared to others I've stayed at in Sedona, etc. But still a decent choice provided you don't rush into it with high standards.

Trendy renovation only goes so far when the basics are broken. This hotel is hip & cute, but that doesn't begin to make up for the fact that so many things in the room didn't work. The loose toilet paper holder that landed the roll on the floor half the time, the bath spigot wiggling off the wall, broken hangers in the closet, incredibly loud heat a/c unit, filthy greasy telephone keys, but when I was ready to shower and go out and discovered I had no hot water, that was it. Took an hour and a visit from maintenance to get hot water running, after that it still took ten minutes each time to heat up, plus the shower had the water pressure of an old watering can. Like a previous reviewer, to my dismay, I discovered at the end of my shower that the bath towels had not been replaced, so I had to dry myself with a hand towel. Are you kidding me?! After a $5 per day housekeeping tip? You can keep the light-up bust of George Washington, just give me a hot shower with a damn bath towel! Front desk staff was quite helpful, they must be well practiced from dealing with constant problems. I must say that the bed was perhaps one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in, very plush and cozy. If you want to be in the middle of all the bustle of Times Square the location is great, the vast majority of guests were European and seemed to be doing the heavy tourist thing. If that's not your purpose, it's in a tremendously congested area packed with nonstop foot traffic. I wouldn't stay there again. I don't care if George Washington lights up, there are better hotels where things actually work.

Fabulous Location, Fabulous Time

I originally booked the Best Western President after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor and searching for a centrally located hotel within Manhatten. Well, I certainly got that. This hotel is right at Times Square and is perfectly located for everything. Central Park is within easy walking distance and the subway station is just at the end of the street so everything else is very easy to get to as well. This was our first time in New York and I have to admit I was very surprised at the level of service you get everywhere and how safe I felt whilst walking around, even at night. You hear all sorts of bad stuff regarding the States but, it can't be further from the truth. We had a fantastic time and I would definately recommend the Best Western President.

Fabulous location

This hotel is located in the middle of the theater district - within 2 minutes of Times Square and an easy walk to most Broadway theaters. The interior has recently been redone. While the lobby and rooms are not particularly spacious and it's a little pricier than the value, I was very pleased with the bell staff - we arrived 3 hours before check in, our rooms were not ready, and they gladly stored our bags while we explored Times Square, had lunch, bought theater tickets and saw a matinee. Then they delivered our bags to our rooms. Someone was always nearby to open the door for us and hail a cab. Great service. I'm not a huge fan of the new 'modern' decor, but our room (one queen and one roll-away) had flat-screen TVs in the two rooms. The small bathroom did not feel crowded. It's a great place to stay though a bit over-priced, in my opinion.

Avoid This Hotel

I went to NYC with my wife and daughter (three adults). We had prepaid for a suite that could accomodate three people. When we got there they had already given out all of the suites and acted like they were doing us a favor by giving us two rooms instead. The rooms were the size of a shoebox. The three of us could not sit down in the same room at the same time. Towel service seems to be optional. Twice I took a shower and had to dry myself off with a hand towel. There was a coffee maker in the room and occasionally they would actually leave coffee. Also the air conditioner in the room steadily leaked condensation on the floor. By the second day the carpet was soaked near the air conditioner and the room smelled like wet dog fur. The location of the hotel was very good. The hotel was very bad.

Subway/Walking Save money and also spot some really great things along the way by walking to a further Subway station before hoppin on.

Top of the Rock The observation deck on top of the GE Building (30 Rock) has reopened. We visited at 11pm on a clear, crisp but not too cold New York December evening. Felt like we were on top of the world! It'sa bit pricey but I left feeling like it was worth it. Now, when I describe it to people at home, I consistently get the comment, "I can tell you really liked it!"

Subway you don't need to use expensive cabs in New York City. either walk or just buy a subway pass. Try and plan your subway routes before you go on your trip to save time whil you're there.
