Great Location--Great Price

I have stayed at the Affinia property (Plaza Fifty Hotel many times since I moved back to Boston in 1998. Time and again, the service at Plaza Fifty has been exceptional; rooms were always just what we needed and the location is great for getting uptown downtown and cross-town. Both Steve and I have lived in NY, so we want a place that feels like NY but without the attitude. It's just a quick walk over to Times Square or up to Central Park. The staff is the best anywhere. We appreciate how efficient the hotel is run. When we have had a problem--few considering the number of stays--they were handled expeditiously. One time I wrote up a problem and was promptly contacted by the General Manager. Now that was impressive! He really wanted to make things right and he followed through. My job in sales has required lots of travel over many years but whether for business or when we head to the City from Boston for a "New York fix", we love and highly recommend this property.

Very Nice and Roomy for the price
from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a jr. suite and our room was great! The price was relative to that of 4 and 5 star hotel rooms in NYC. We were glad that we stayed there. The beds were very comfortable and we even had a full kitchen and a large bathroom. Our hotel was far enough away but yet close enough to all the great places to see in NYC. The staff was always congenial and helpful. Could not have asked for more.
GREAT STAY AT THE PLAZA 50
from MMM1968
Stayed June 10-14th. Nice hotel--close to major attractions and subway. Room included small microwave and fridge. Had to wash dishes (provided) in the bathroom sink but that was ok. Didn't use these as much as we intended because we were out most of day. True, there were renovations coing on but only was a slight problem when we came back in late afternoon to rest before going out for the evening. Had requested high room with view through Expedia and got the 4th floor with view of next building's wall and air conditioning unit. Disappointed because this was my first stay in NYC. Be specific on what you ask for (ie. view of street). Staff was friendly and helpful! Will stay again!
Absolutely loved the hotel!

Stayed here with my daughters. Rooms were very clean and spacious. Staff was friendly - service and location excellent. The only problem was the renovation that was taking place. No noise at night, but one elevator was reserved for the workers, so we usually had to wait for the remaining one. I would definitely stay here again.
Nice Place to Stay

We enjoyed our recent stay at the Plaza Fifty. It is convenient to Rockefeller Center and other midtown attractions but far enough off the beaten path to afford a good value (we paid $159/night). The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Note that they are in the midst of gutting and remodeling every floor with the majority slated to be "executive suites". Our floor was one of the last awaiting the wrecker and we received a "wake up call" one morning as renovation began on the floor above. However, since we were getting out to enjoy the city it was not a major inconvenience. The staff showed us the new room format and it was very nice. However, expect the rates to go up as the "new" rooms go into service.
Pleasantly surprised!

We had a great long weekend at the Plaza 50! My husband was in New Jersey for business so our children and I (8 yr old and 8 mo old) joined him in NYC for a long weekend. When we arrived at 3:30am they did not have a Jr. Suite available so we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite. It was beautiful! It was newly renovated and very large. The bathroom was small, but the kitchenette and large living room more than made up for it. The entire suite was impeccably clean.
I have travelled many, many times and this by far was the nicest budget-minded hotel I have ever stayed in. The beds were extremely comfortable (new).
The hotel lobby, hallways and elevators are not at all impressive and very small, but the large clean rooms are a pleasant surprise when you open the room door. We could not hear a peep from other guests through the walls or hallways.
The other bad reviews must have gotten older rooms before they were renovated. Ours was perfect. We will definately stay there again.

Enjoyed my stay

My husband and I have just returned from a pleasant stay at the Plaza Fifty (April 16-19, 2004). This hotel was recommended by a friend who has also stayed here. This was not my first visit to NYC, so I was expecting a small, run-down hotel room. I was pleasantly surprised at how roomy our studio suite was! It's not a brand new hotel, but it's clean and the rooms are spacious. I found the desk staff to be noticably nice and helpful during our stay. We stayed on the 8th floor overlooking 50th Street. It was a little noisy in the morning due to the street noise and I believe they were renovating rooms on the floor above us. We ate at the New York Luncheonette next door which was inexpensive and quick for breakfast. We also ate at the George O'Neill restaurant next door for dinner which was good. As others on this site have said, the location of this hotel is ideal. I would stay here again based on the size/cleanliness of the rooms, the price, and the location.
dirty hotel!

when i arrived to check in to this hotel they claimed that they lost my reservation then they magically found it. when i finally got to the room it was dirty and the rugs were all ripped up. it was filthy. the staff was also very unprofessional and it seemed as though they had no clue of what was going on. never stay there ever!
Very satsified

I was nervous about booking online, sight unseen, but the reviews of this hotel were all extremely accurate. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. Our room was a large two room suite on the 7th floor overlooking 3rd Avenue, providing hours of entertainment during a huge snowstorm. The subway was close, but we walked to most tourist destinations, even during the snow. There are several decent restarants nearby. We especially enjoyed the bagels at Ess-a-bagel every morning.
Don't expect fancy decor or the amenities of a large hotel, but do expect room to stretch out, kitchen facilities, a pleasant staff, and a decent rate.

I loved it

I loved Plaza Fifty. We had a great room with a great view right in the heart up downtown. I recommend to everyone.
What a find!

We spent three nights at this hotel and couldn't be happier with our choice. Rooms were very clean, decor was tasteful, and staff were very helpful. We couldn't have gotten a better deal for the price. Close to mid-town in a moderately priced area. The little nuggets of information from the staff was priceless..ask them for the best places to eat and the best way to get where you are going..A wonderful stay in NYC! We will definitely be going back again
